I'm not going to say you're wrong, but I'm conflicted by your comment. Was it really courage? I counter that they truly thought that they were right and had no reason to cover their faces. The Geneva conventions, nor the Internet, were things at the time. There wasn't any meaningful, if any, backlash to being a racist at the time. There was no risk to facists having your face uncovered back then, but there definitely is now.
These cowards have the advantage of knowing the history of the Nazis though. And they continue to carry out their mission. Even worse, by concealing their identities they do seem to hope that they can keep showing up to brunch and dance recitals to hobnob with the same people that they will be choking out and shooting in the face later in the evening.
While the original phrasing might come off a little strange, I think that there is something to be said about the meaning.
If it makes you all feel any better, the nazi with the gun didn't survive the war. Also, his hometown covered his name on a war memorial with a QR code so people would know what he'd done and he'd get proper credit for his monstrous acts.
Yeah, most of them never relented. They simply did their best to assimilate back into normal life. Most absolved their consciences by convincing themselves what they'd done was an acceptable part of fighting a war.
Still, whether it was through Nazi hunters, prosecutions, or family testimonies... their names live on in infamy.
Yeah, I'm surprised that the pursuit continued after the Nuremberg trials. Like Australia found 6.
The French though? They didn't fuck around. Goddamn lol. 10,000 - 15,000 executions. The US thought it was 80k, and the French minister said 105k, but those numbers are unlikely and the 10k-15k is accepted.
That photograph is unbearable because it traps a man in the exact second before his murder. He is alive, kneeling, terrified, and fully aware that the next sound he hears will be the gunshot that ends him. The camera steals even that last mercy, forcing him to die forever, over and over, every time someone looks. He is not a symbol or a lesson, he is a human being caught at the instant the world decides he no longergets to exist.
If I was the one murdered and could be aware of this, I would be massively thankful that at least this moment was caught so clearly, that I didn't die alone, that maybe it won't be for nothing and people will see this and have a fire ignited within them to continue the fight.
So many people have been killed just like this before that we never saw and will never know about. The murderer has worked for Border Patrol for 8 years. I would be completely unsurprised to learn he had already murdered others.
I don't think the first shot was aimed at the head, but at the upper body area, while multiple people were wrestling him down. There was no need for usage of lethal force in any of this.
The article gives a lot of information, but all i read about this guy is "… the officer who shot the man had extensive training as a range safety officer and in using less-lethal force."
From what I saw on videos they shot him from behind into his back. But it was not a scene of execution like here in the image, more like a fight situation.
He had been dragged to the ground, kicked and punched repeatedly by multiple people and hit in the head with some sort of bat, he was unresponsive on the floor by the time the first shot is fired and then he's clearly already dead or dying and not moving at all when the rest of the shots are fired.
Huh? I think I was misunderstood here. In no way I wanted to downplay US gestapo here. I just wanted to tell the difference between these two images: In the first one a person seems to be forced to kneel in order to get executed by a shot in the head. The second image was already described by you very well.
How about pointing out that the first is black and white and the other is in colour. Or that the first picture has a bunch of people in the background. Yes, thank you. Good to know your eyes work. But none of that is relevant to the point being made her.

For all of its barbarism, the guy on the left still at least had the courage of his convictions to show his face while commiting his crime. He believed enough to not hide his face like a coward.
ICE is just effectively keyboard warriors with guns in the real world. They have the balls to pull their shit only so long as they can stay hidden and safe behind masks while doing so. A bunch of fucking cowards who would immediately piss themselves if they were one on one and unmasked.
I'm not going to defend any nazi, especially the guy on the left. But at least nazi's used to have the courage of their convictions. Nowadays it's just barely literate dude-bros looking for a mask so they can execute people.
Before, theirs was the only voice being platformed, so they knew they needn't fear. Nowadays, they're a minority voice in most public spaces and know it.
Also, while it’s hard to tell from pictures and videos, it doesn’t look like the ERO ICE fucks are running ceramic plates in their vests. The way they’re moving around while wrestling people on the ground the videos I’ve seen looks way more nimble than I ever was in full plates.
If I’m right, and again I wouldn’t stake anything on it from just videos and images, they’re just running with 3a soft armor which provides stab protection and protection from handgun calibers. 5.56 wouldn’t notice a difference between that or a north face shell.
Daily reminder that all major American media companies are fully complicit with this fascist takeover. And at least one group I can think of is enthusiastically supporting it (skydance)
"Let's point out the hypocrisy of the fascists for the thousandth time. Then, we'll use logic to explain reality to those who have rejected logic for a decade. Then, we'll appeal to the virtues, morality, and ethics of those who have never once displayed any of those traits.
That'll surely stop the fascist coup in its final hour."
— American "liberals"
I swear, at this point it's hard to tell who is more brainwashed and mentally ill. The fascists who reject reality, or the antifascists who reject reality; refusing to accept that the fascists are too mentally ill to be reasoned with.
I'm not American; just a foreign ally who would've already bought a gun and learned how to use it a decade ago, if I were American, because MAGA has been a fascist evangelical mental illness fuelled by billionaire propaganda the entire god damn time.
But maybe organise protests outside the homes of every Republican politician 24/7? Don't let them sleep and make them feel the terror they are bringing to the people?
Maybe spend your time building lists of who the fascists are, where they live, and how high-profile they are? Maybe study methods of guerrilla warfare and insurgency? Maybe join local antifascist militias and learn how to securely communicate, including in case of when the fascists nuke the internet and energy grid?
Maybe spend your time preparing for when the mass murder starts? Have a plan of meaningful resistance, then execute it if/when all else fails.
Because I can tell you right now, the tens of millions of mentally ill Americans are impossible to de programme. They've chosen fascism, and they won't abandon it without being brought to their knees. Trying to reason with insanity is nothing more than wasting your breath.
Why do you think I'm here? If American antifascists fail to remove the cancer, it will destroy the lives of millions/billions abroad. Whether or not fascist tyranny appears in my country/city is mostly dependent on whether or not American antifascists overthrow American fascists, including oligarch operatives like Thiel and Musk. Palantir is an integral part of the fascism American corporations/oligarchs are exporting, along with most intelligence/surveillance tech, economics, politics, big tech, media, and social media.
How do YOU propose foreigners help? I've already shifted my investments and purchases away from American corpos and USD. I've already canceled all subs and transitioned as much away from big tech as I can at this stage. I've already donated hundreds to Ukraine. I already spent a large chunk of my life refuting both fascists and anti-fascists with stats, facts, and logic on social media. I realised that none of it mattered many years ago, because the fascist oligarchy own the networks and algorithms.
The hardest part has been convincing American "liberals" that they aren't in the big club they think they are, and that the "moderate whites" — neoliberals and "traditional" conservatives — will not protect or defend them from fascism, just like MLK documented over 60 years ago.
Why would you ask that question? If they really are doing something they shouldn’t fucking tell you what it is. Are you an idiot or a cute fascy playing pretend?! Use your fucking brain.
Maybe it's more like heroin addiction. To them it's the best thing ever, they're willing to die for it and they're in too deep to stop. But everybody else can see it's fucking disgusting and will impact others negatively.
I think it should be clear to most people by now that you can't reason with fascists because they don't listen to arguments but just cling to their evil ideology against all logic. It should also be clear to most US citizens by now that isolated protests in some cities will do as little to stop the criminal regime as the hollowed-out legal system or any of the corrupt established politicians.
The regime is clearly not impressed by this, especially since its propaganda machine continuously obscures the fact that millions of people are taking to the streets to express their contempt for the crimes of their fascist leaders. This is already evident in the fact that its secret police force barely waited a few hours before committing the next murder in open public and for all to see.
However, the question remains, and it will be interesting to see whether US citizens will oppose their oppression with organized and nationwide coordinated resistance. I think the US is at a turning point in its history: Will the American people rise up against the tyranny of the powerful few, or will the masses bow down to it?
Only US citizens can answer this question - through decisive civil resistance, through a nationwide general strike that continues for as long as it takes, even at the expense of their own standard of living, until the criminal regime is removed.
If that does not happen, I believe it is inevitable that the US will soon become an autocratic kleptocracy like Russia, since the orange child molester, his billionaire allies and their henchmen are obviously in the process of replacing even the semblance of democracy with the harsh repressive measures that are characteristic of a true dictatorship.
So the question is: Will the US population allow this to happen, or will they rise up en masse to oppose it?
We have no resistance leader. Without one we are dead. No I’m not the leader this country needs before anyone tries that bs, I’ve tried to lead. I’m too “mean” (ie i don’t put up with bullshit and i own a vagina). Libs don’t like it when i use the word fuck.
Yes, that's probably true. Maybe someone will come along who people can rally behind - someone who will put an end to hatred and exploitation and show people that greed and self-interest are leading the country into the abyss it now faces.
The frustration felt by the undoubtedly countless decent people in the US must be hard to bear. As a German, I can well imagine that, because in my home country, too, the goddamned fascists are on the rise, and here, too, there are unfortunately many people who fall prey to their dull ideology, even though it completely contradicts their own interests.
That is precisely why I think it is important for people to take to the streets, because social media and traditional media are controlled by the same unscrupulous monsters who have resurrected fascism in order to maximize their profits. In such a manipulated media reality, it is easy to get the false impression that the majority supports this inhuman ideology - with all its disgusting hatred for everything it feels threatened by: intellect, humor, empathy, compassion and all that.
This makes it all the more important, in my opinion, for people to come together in real life to reassure each other that there are indeed many decent people out there.
Yes. Unless we get real leadership. The influencers most non regime supporters follow crush real leadership in the cradle, and shout down, belittle, and scapegoat anyone calling for real leadership.
Without organization we are doomed. Every protest should be signing people to innumerable groups cooperating on general forums.
Yes, true leaders are needed for every movement - courageous people who care about the cause rather than themselves. Well, perhaps US citizens will now succeed in giving meaning to the suffering of so many and also to the deaths of those who paid the ultimate price by carrying their suffering and the blatant injustice of their fate like a banner before them, turning it into positive energy to finally put an end to all this. It would be nothing but desirable - for the US as well as for the world.
Yes this is it 100%. They are either working for fascists or so fucking greedy they won’t get out of the way. The first fight is destroying the Democratic Party by either taking it over or removing it from the picture.
That’s the only way we get out of this and find leadership.
Our leader will also need to be an unknown working American. No fucking celebrities.
It seems like you are conflating leadership with hierarchy. Where I am, I see plenty of leaders who step up when needed, organizing efforts on the ground. If anything, I think the current situation of the regime points to the danger of coalescing behind a central leader.
With respect to countering this specific empire, decentralized structures are more difficult to counter and have a history of prevailing against even overwhelming force from the US (Vietnam and Afghanistan come to mind). As for signing people up on any list, particularly large ones, that seems like a massive mistake given the surveillance capabilities and budgets commanded by the regime and the average person's understanding of proper security practices.
Organization is key, as is something to unite behind, and people rallying the population, providing air cover in public, and most of all getting people to join together.
Obviously that is a bit dangerous in some ways now, but it can still be done, especially if we guard against dangers, and organize our own security, intelligence when it takes off.
Maybe no public speeches at some point, maybe not even one leader, maybe mouthpieces for anonymous leaders.
But we desperately need that leadership on a macro scale, and organization on our own forums to cooperate on what we agree on. Ie fed agents not executing citizens under false pretense is overwhelmingly popular even on the right, even if they do not know it yet.
A real leader MAKES public opinion they do not chase it. They do not need focus groups and polls.
Money is organized and unless we are we are played off each other as we have been, wasting effort fighting under doomed to fail leadership that does not want to restore the republic and sees quashing popular reform as their reason for being. Apparently convinced fascist talk of them is performative.
What is really interesting is that, American have been screaming about having the right to arm themselves in case the government becomes tyrannical.
But peaceful, progressive people don't want to have weapons, do want to be violent. They will always want to find common solutions because they care about other people.
In the end this gun culture has helped create a fascist regime. I feel that country with such powerful military propaganda are rare. Poor kids get drilled into physical sport and military strategy from a very young age. To feed this machine.
From this people will have a hard time resisting.
Its freaking scary. Once they are done internally they will really turn their head to the rest of the world big time.
Well put.
Even the memes are a part of it. Like that with each meme comes some kind of victory over the fascists.
But, one thing I think you are wrong is that fascists don't reject reality. They know what the deal is, but this is the way they communicate, the way they express allegiance, the way they recognize each other. They will publicly support an obvious lie, be proud of it, no amount of YouTube videos how some journalists EVISCERATES them in an interview will help. Thats how they show how strongly they support the leader, how much they are willing to take.
And the soldiers, the gestapo is there to use violence. They have to do it, thats why they exist. They have to show the population that they can do anything, beat up people, murder them in public view and take no consequences. That was always going to happen. Lies that they say on tv after are supposed to be blatant, stupid, easily to see through. That's the point, to show to the people, it doesn't matter what truth is, it only matters what they say. Until they say something else.
And everybody is going along with it.
The only thing missing now is cancellation of elections or more likely, just a complete fabrication of results. Again, it won't matter that the fabrication will be obvious, clear to everyone, that will be by design, that will be the point.
In the still, is the kneeled ICE agent trying to stop the other from shooting? I can't bear another watch of this video, but it would bring some hope back if that was the case.
No that’s not what it looked like to me, I think it’s just the still frame not providing context. This is after the first shots but before the mag dumps. I think the kneeling ice coward is just captured in the moment of recoiling away after hearing a gunshot but not knowing where exactly it’s coming from or who it’s at. Like pulling off the handle of a cast iron when you grab it forgetting its hot kind of reaction.

I 100% agree with what you said, but please don't equate fascism to a mental illness, it's offensive to people suffering from actual illnesses.
Fascists aren't like that because of an illness they can't control, they are simply cowardly bullies that chose to behave like that.
danekrae@lemmy.world · -5 pts · 213d
Maybe it's more like heroin addiction. To them it's the best thing ever, they're willing to die for it and they're in too deep to stop. But everybody else can see it's fucking disgusting and will impact others negatively.
Whostosay@sh.itjust.works · 16 pts · 213d
Nope. Maybe just equate it to fascism. It's already a well defined word and is plenty disgusting without trying to demonize victims of drug abuse.

So the question is: Will the US population allow this to happen, or will they rise up en masse to oppose it?
architect@thelemmy.club · 5 pts · 213d
We have no resistance leader. Without one we are dead. No I’m not the leader this country needs before anyone tries that bs, I’ve tried to lead. I’m too “mean” (ie i don’t put up with bullshit and i own a vagina). Libs don’t like it when i use the word fuck.
DandomRude@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 213d
This makes it all the more important, in my opinion, for people to come together in real life to reassure each other that there are indeed many decent people out there.
hector@lemmy.today · 2 pts · 213d
Yes. Unless we get real leadership. The influencers most non regime supporters follow crush real leadership in the cradle, and shout down, belittle, and scapegoat anyone calling for real leadership.
Without organization we are doomed. Every protest should be signing people to innumerable groups cooperating on general forums.
DandomRude@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 213d
Yes, true leaders are needed for every movement - courageous people who care about the cause rather than themselves. Well, perhaps US citizens will now succeed in giving meaning to the suffering of so many and also to the deaths of those who paid the ultimate price by carrying their suffering and the blatant injustice of their fate like a banner before them, turning it into positive energy to finally put an end to all this. It would be nothing but desirable - for the US as well as for the world.
architect@thelemmy.club · 3 pts · 213d
Yes this is it 100%. They are either working for fascists or so fucking greedy they won’t get out of the way. The first fight is destroying the Democratic Party by either taking it over or removing it from the picture.
That’s the only way we get out of this and find leadership.
Our leader will also need to be an unknown working American. No fucking celebrities.
sulfidedisburseangledafternoontipper@piefed.blahaj.zone · 3 pts · 213d
It seems like you are conflating leadership with hierarchy. Where I am, I see plenty of leaders who step up when needed, organizing efforts on the ground. If anything, I think the current situation of the regime points to the danger of coalescing behind a central leader.
With respect to countering this specific empire, decentralized structures are more difficult to counter and have a history of prevailing against even overwhelming force from the US (Vietnam and Afghanistan come to mind). As for signing people up on any list, particularly large ones, that seems like a massive mistake given the surveillance capabilities and budgets commanded by the regime and the average person's understanding of proper security practices.
hector@lemmy.today · 3 pts · 213d
Apparently convinced fascist talk of them is performative.
architect@thelemmy.club · 3 pts · 213d
Yes yes yes!!! Why is this not understood?!
architect@thelemmy.club · 2 pts · 213d
Nah leadership would be going door to door at this point. Preparing their people for the war that was declared on them in July 2024.
What we have is the fucking Democratic Party and various greed pacs taking advantage of us.
They should be telling us to arm ourselves and where to go. They should be promising us pardons for not paying federal taxes.
We have no fucking leader.
telllos@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 213d

PixelatedSaturn@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 213d
Again, it won't matter that the fabrication will be obvious, clear to everyone, that will be by design, that will be the point.
architect@thelemmy.club · -1 pts · 213d
It’s from American exceptionalism I think. War can’t happen here it happens in other shit hole countries type thinking.

borari@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 9 pts · 213d
No that’s not what it looked like to me, I think it’s just the still frame not providing context. This is after the first shots but before the mag dumps. I think the kneeling ice coward is just captured in the moment of recoiling away after hearing a gunshot but not knowing where exactly it’s coming from or who it’s at. Like pulling off the handle of a cast iron when you grab it forgetting its hot kind of reaction.
