entire hog carcass

Oh no, you’re getting select cuts of offal and skin and water retention agents.

KayLeadfoot@fedia.io · 17 pts · 192d (2 replies)

Yea nah the good parts of the pig, those they sell in far better cuts XD

Spam is all that's left over but the squeal, and then, sawdust or whatever they use to retain the water.

Clent@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 3 pts · 191d

The parts not fit for hot dogs.

SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca · 3 pts · 192d

Lips and assholes. Yum.

Retail4068@lemmy.world · 13 pts · 192d (13 replies)

Use every part! Shits delicious. If it wasn't so salty would be a great way to avoid prep more often.

prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 5 pts · 191d

There's a "less sodium" version that's pretty good but still salty af

sauerkrautsaul@lemmus.org · 2 pts · 192d (11 replies)

you gotta slice it though, sticking a fork directly in it doesnt look so nice

Retail4068@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 192d (10 replies)

Toss it in the pan, break it up with the sparchula.

SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca · 18 pts · 192d (2 replies)

Retail4068@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 192d

🤣

sauerkrautsaul@lemmus.org · 4 pts · 191d (6 replies)

thats insanity. you throw a whole spam into a frying pan and then slice/poke at it with a spatula? the pieces would be completely uneven and thus would cook unevenly. have some self respect and take the rectangle and put it on a cutting board and meticulously slice perfectly even and equal lengthwise slices with the precision and poise of a 25 year old japanese sushi shef working in a two star michelin restaurant who still hates himself for overcooking a single appetizer three years ago

Viceversa@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 191d (2 replies)

Isn't spam cooked already?

sauerkrautsaul@lemmus.org · 2 pts · 191d

yeah but so are hot dogs and keilbasa ya know

KayLeadfoot@fedia.io · 1 pts · 185d

Treat yourself.

Slice it thin and fry it til it browns a little. Thank me later.

Retail4068@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 191d (2 replies)

You joke but I'll cook meals with effort like that all the time.

sauerkrautsaul@lemmus.org · 3 pts · 191d (1 reply)

wait like a humorless self-hating asian perfectionist or by stabbing a block of spam with a spatula while its already frying

Retail4068@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 191d

Yes

Toes@ani.social · 16 pts · 192d

Slice it up into small pieces, throw it on a pan with some diced onion and potatoes. Good time

prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 15 pts · 191d (5 replies)

Spam is pretty good tbh if you fry it up

CanadianCarl@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 191d (4 replies)

Are you trying to convince us to eat blended pork, that is not in hotdog form?

prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 4 pts · 191d

I guess? People don't seem to have a problem with sausage. And there are even grosser products that are regional in the US that I'll spare you the descriptions of...

Buddahriffic@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 190d

Oh is that why people say you wouldn't like hot dogs if you saw how they were made, because they are just spam in tube form?

kevin2107@lemmy.world · 0 pts · 190d (1 reply)

you eat chunks of belly fat and like it don't you? what about pre inseminated chicken overy escriment? you like it don't you?

see you can make anything sound nasty if you describe it like a jackass.

SPAM - Something Posing As Meat

sauerkrautsaul@lemmus.org · 9 pts · 192d

do you mean SPAM: Super Product, All Meat?

Kolanaki@pawb.social · 9 pts · 192d

I literally did this a couple times after first trying Spam and liking it.

And after I did that, tho, I stopped liking Spam. Too much of a good thing is bad 😔

Underwaterbob@sh.itjust.works · 9 pts · 192d (4 replies)

And probably your daily recommended sodium intake X 3.

jim_v@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 191d (1 reply)

According to the SPAM website, each can has 3,840mg of sodium.

Spam and egg musubi are amazing. I kinda want some now lol

Quetzalcutlass@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 191d (2 replies)

A Hawaiian fast food place opened near me last year and teriyaki spam musubi is one of the most addicting things I've ever tried. I'd eat there all the time if they didn't charge nearly four bucks per tiny sushi roll.

Suburbanl3g3nd@lemmings.world · 2 pts · 191d (1 reply)

Damn that's spendy. Check and see if you have an L&L Hawaiian BBQ nearby. They are amazing and their Mac salad, musubi and Loco moko are top tier

Quetzalcutlass@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 190d

Sadly the nearest L&L location looks to be multiple states away. I'd love a quality Hawaiian place. The place I was talking about is alright, but their entrées aren't anywhere near as good as their sides.

For some reason spam grosses me out but I'm ok with Vienna sausages. Pretty sure they're the same thing just shaped differently.

CH3DD4R_G0BL1N@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 191d

Vienna sausage texture is different, more palatable, and they have 10000% less salt.

empireOfLove2@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 1 pts · 191d

🥴

MehBlah@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 191d

Better than okay. We are interested in efficiency. Bouncing it out a can, slicing it and singeing it on a stove takes time and adds nothing in terms of calories and sodium.

Widdershins@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 191d (3 replies)

I just ate Korean BBQ SPAM with an egg and cheese on white bread. It was good considering the effort that went in. My heart is pounding like I just ran a marathon though. I think if I ate another I might die.

_stranger_@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 191d (2 replies)

That's probably because a single 2 oz serving (1/6th of a can) has a third of the salt you need per day. A can is 2x the recommended daily salt intake.

Widdershins@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 191d (1 reply)

I ate half the can in that sandwich and nothing else yesterday. Is it bad to get your full % daily value of salt in the span of less than 5 minutes?

_stranger_@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 190d

I'm no doctor, but it's probably not ideal.

daggermoon@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 192d (3 replies)

I'd rather eat my own cum

Widdershins@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 191d (2 replies)

I'm not here to stop you. I just have one question: Can you produce 36oz of load per day? I got that number from a regular size 12oz can of SPAM and multiplied it by 3 for 3 meals a day. This is reckoning by volume not weight.

Viceversa@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 191d

I can help him though

protogen420@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 2 pts · 191d

harmbugler@piefed.social · 5 pts · 192d (5 replies)

It's very cheap protein where I live. But it has way too much salt for me, and various other mysteries.

For cheap protein I buy sardines instead.

sauerkrautsaul@lemmus.org · 5 pts · 191d

you worry about sodium so you go for the low salt option of SARDINES

hungryphrog@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 3 pts · 190d

You want cheap protein? Get dried legumes. (and prepare yourself for the farts)

empireOfLove2@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 191d

I can't stand sardines. Every time I've tried them it's just the wrong kind of fishy flavor.

If I want cheap protein I usually go chicken or turkey.

LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 192d (1 reply)

I've never had sardines but I've heard they are extremely healthy and low cost.

Spam: low cost, delicious, but not healthy. And downright disgusting to those who know what it actually is and/or have witnessed its entire processing from whole happy pig to canned gelatinized slurry.

zikzak025@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 192d

Sardines do have the same high salt problem. Healthy in moderation but watch your blood pressure.

Chivera@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 190d (1 reply)

Etterra@discuss.online · 3 pts · 192d (6 replies)

Supposedly it tastes good sliced and pan fried. I'm kinda afraid to try it in case it's actually tasty.

hoch@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 192d (1 reply)

It's absolutely delicious when properly prepared. Like bacon-flavored hot dogs. Magnificent in mac n cheese.

sauerkrautsaul@lemmus.org · 2 pts · 192d

see I put hot dogs into mc&chee. ive considered putting spam in

empireOfLove2@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 4 pts · 192d

It absolutely is. Pan fried with eggs is a nice breakfast actually. It's a camping staple for me.

Leeks@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 192d

Slice it thin and cook it golden brown. Deep fry it if you can. It’s better than bacon.

SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca · 1 pts · 192d

LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 192d

When I was a child I thought that stuff was delicious. Mom served it to us. As I got older I kinda started realizing what it was, along with hot dogs and stuff like that, and I cannot stomach the idea of eating such things anymore.

phoenixz@lemmy.ca · 2 pts · 191d

Spam in little cubes in macaroni, fine

But uncooked put of the can? That is a little too much
