TerrabyteMarx@quokk.au · 10 pts · 185d

"It is like confessing a murder"- on the implications of telling his friends about his theory. That was an interesting read thanks

Hegar@fedia.io · 136 pts · 186d

That's not even all of them, he also said "I hate a barnacle as no man ever did".

oh weird, the link keeps getting mangled when I paste it.

Try the link now, removing the space I added to make it valid

the space is still there though?

this works for me?

EDIT: This is bizzare. the forward slash between letters and DCP keeps getting replaced by %2F

It seems lemmy doesn't like the direct letter url. But you can find it by searching: https://www.darwinproject.ac.uk/search?keyword=DCP-LETT-3272.xml

It seems like they have a bug where they should be doing a url deencode on the document id url parameter, but they aren't

Which Charles Darwin are you? I'm 23 jan 1863 Charles Darwin.

goldenbug@fedia.io · 11 pts · 186d

I'm 10 of September, 1860

Zombie@feddit.uk · 8 pts · 186d (1 reply)

And yet, you write. Curious.

I have a timed close-book exam today so I am of course 1 Oct 1861

dumbass@piefed.social · 3 pts · 186d

I'm not happy about it.

SSETranquility@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 186d (2 replies)

11 March 1958 clockin in. Hate me some variety

fartographer@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 186d (1 reply)

Bold to pick a date 70 years after his death. In that case, I'm 1993 Darwin, rolling in his grave at the launch of the Darwin Awards.

SSETranquility@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 185d

Hahahaha opps the fartographer got me

I'm detecting a theme here.

AlexLost@lemmy.world · 37 pts · 186d (1 reply)

Generally, he was not a fan of things

banazir@lemmy.ml · 3 pts · 186d

He did love eating every new animal he ran across.

Darwin was famously seasick, but also wanted to really look at birds and shit. Bad combination.

aln@lemmy.world · 18 pts · 186d

Didn't he have the most amount of trouble with his hammock? I recall from the Dollop episode on him this dude couldn't get in our out of the damn thing like ever

Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca · 12 pts · 186d

Somebody should have just given him a Snickers.

MutantTailThing@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 186d (2 replies)

Fuck bees though.

Dumb bees and their dumb honey.

GregorGizeh@lemmy.zip · 16 pts · 186d

You leave the bees alone or prepare to catch some hands my good sir and/or madame. Wasps can get fucked tho

ThisSeriesIsFalse@lemmy.ca · 3 pts · 186d

Poorly what?

Poorly everything.

PugJesus@piefed.social · 5 pts · 186d

Big Darwin mood

banazir@lemmy.ml · 5 pts · 186d (2 replies)

He sounds like he needs to take a cold shower.

Blade9732@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 186d (1 reply)

Good News! Hot showers weren't common place with non royalty for another 50 years. Likely his only choice of shower was a cold shower.

banazir@lemmy.ml · 6 pts · 186d

I was actually making a joke about the hydrotherapy he used to treat his condition. It involved getting doused with cold water. I don't think anyone caught my joke.

Zerush@lemmy.ml · 4 pts · 185d

Same list for me every morning before the coffee.

SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml · 3 pts · 186d

Well you know what they say, do what you hate!

xia@lemmy.ca · 0 pts · 186d (1 reply)

Missed opportunity to include his praise of inbreeding to produce "superior stock".

JasonDJ@lemmy.zip · 9 pts · 186d

What?

No.

Darwin married his first cousin, yeah...that was the social norm at the time, not long ago.

But he hypothesized and later proved that the inbreeding was a direct cause of his children's poor health.

I wouldn't say he was a fan of inbreeding, just a reluctant participant who eventually warned us of its dangers.
