Motorola Solutions and Motorola Mobility are not the same. Motorola as a singular brand does not mean what it once did. The former spun off the latter and sold it. Mobile Phones are NOT a product of the firm with said ties.

The US is far, far more of a threat than China even remotely is. That being said, I highly doubt the GOS devs would even consider any collaboration if a backdoor was ever a possibility.

The possibility of backdoors is unavoidable, and it's part of their threat model. It's why the mobile baseband is isolated, for example.

I dunno what that means. US doesn't have jurisdiction outside the US, just like China doesn't have jurisdiction outside of China, so not a whole lot they can do to you. I have heard of Chinese kidnapping their own people who fled to the US, but I'm not sure how true that is.

Simple answer is yes.
However, Lenovo have full legal and financial control over Motorola. But because Motorola is a subsidiary, it's legally distinct from its parent company. And because it's incorporated in the USA it has to be compliant with US law. So, for example, Lenovo is not permitted to compel Motorola to violate US law.

For as long as major powers control the production of the majority of computing devices this will be true. But as far as I know there are no short term alternatives for completely open mobile device hardware... so if hardware backdoors are in your threat model then unfortunately mobile devices are not for you...better stick to the very small community of open hardware for laptop/desktop computers for your communication needs.
