The US president has “threatened to stop” supplying weapons for Ukraine to pressure European allies to join a “coalition of the willing” to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, the Financial Times reports, quoting people briefed on the discussions.
According to the report, Trump threatened to stop supplies to NATO’s weapons procurement initiative for Ukraine, which is funded by European countries.
On Tuesday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told Al Jazeera it was “very disappointing” that NATO allies such as Spain blocked the use of their airspace and bases for the US-Israel war on Iran. He warned that Washington will re-examine the value of NATO after the war is over.

Just imagine what he will do as soon as he thinks that this lever will work!

Why should this lever not work?

Nobody is sending their soldiers to die for his impulsive, poorly thought out war. especially after he has spent years antagonizing allies.

Wouldn't the billionaires tell the Republicans to start an impeachment if the war was just Trump's idea? It's like the ballroom. Turns out, it wasn't Trump's idea to tear down the East Wing.
zealouscurmedgeon@lemmy.ml · 3 pts · 122d
Yeah it was pitched to him. We know Lindsey coached Israel on how to sell the war to Trump. But he did ultimately agree to it and he's the commander-in-chief so its ultimately his responsibility. No other president agreed to this stupidity.
CEOs continue to brown nose him despite his tariffs being bad for business as he at the least will rubber stamp their mergers and other anti-consumer policies.
plyth@feddit.org · 0 pts · 122d
It's Trump's responsibility but others could intervene. Soldiers don't have to execute illegal orders and Congress doesn't have to finance the war and the media can become much more critical and can call for a general strike.
The elite agrees with Trump.

The Euros will not allow their their remaining surface fleet to be sunk in a suicide mission in Hormuz, no matter how much they glaze Ukraine
mathemachristian@lemmy.ml · 4 pts · 124d
Nov, but they might decide to do a suicide mission in the ukraine in a desperate attempt to stop any blowback from nazi terrorcells deciding they lost the war bc of germany and wanting to retaliate.

The year is
19452027 and it's a mad dash to the Nazi capitol to prevent those dirty Russians from being the sole captors and thus being free to ask some very uncomfortable questions. Also how can the western powers possibly run NATO and develop aerospace technology without pardoned nazis-in-exile?

Wait a minute...
Why would trump care about a coalition to reopen the strait, if oil prices are going to come "tumbling down" regardless? What an idiot.
sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml · 27 pts · 124d
Imagine if Iran just kept the strait closed lmao
Bluescluestoothpaste@sh.itjust.works · 5 pts · 124d
That's what they're doing. It's not actually closed the iraniana just demand a bribe to be let through. Their peace offer is for everyone to accept a toll to go through. China russia and india dont care they just buy the cheap iranian oil with a bribe and it's still cheaper than what us and Europe are paying for gas from SA
emergencyfood@sh.itjust.works · 21 pts · 124d
It's a two-tier system. Friendly countries - China, Russia, Malaysia and Bangladesh - don't even need to pay the toll. 'Neutral' countries like India, Indonesia, etc. can transport oil after paying the toll. US and its allies don't get oil, toll or no toll.
mathemachristian@lemmy.ml · 17 pts · 124d
Seems fair to me.
Aceticon@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 16 pts · 123d
Also there's the alternative way which Iran offered: kick out the American and Israeli embassadors.
Iran is playing 5D chess whilst Trump's America is playing Tic-tac-toe.
eldavi@lemmy.ml · 10 pts · 123d
the allies also don't need to pay a toll if they kick out the us bases from their countries.
emergencyfood@sh.itjust.works · 5 pts · 123d
Yes, but then the US army will pay you a visit instead of Iran, and unless you've been spending the last decade building tunnels and drones it probably won't work out as well for you.
eldavi@lemmy.ml · 10 pts · 123d
definately true for the global south, but i wonder if it's the same for the uk or france or germany
mathemachristian@lemmy.ml · 2 pts · 122d
No because they're laready there

Hopefully us military will be decimated after Iran is done with them.
mathemachristian@lemmy.ml · 15 pts · 124d
Hahahahahahahahaahaahahahahahahh its a toll, and guess why the price jumped lmao
look at how much you have to "bribe" the europeans to pass through their country

ManixT@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 124d
Except it's not their territorial waters. They want to extort this fee even if they do not enter Iranian territory.
Bluescluestoothpaste@sh.itjust.works · -3 pts · 123d
Well it's not through iran, it's through international waters, hence why they didn't charge a toll before and now it can be called a bribe
mathemachristian@lemmy.ml · 8 pts · 123d
huh??? Are you saying Iran doesn't have control over it's half of the strait of hormuz?? Are you perhaps confused with territorial waters??
Grapho@lemmy.ml · 8 pts · 123d
It's shared territorial waters, which is not the same as international waters. Learn what a word means before lecturing others on it.

You do realize that Ukraine has more cutting edge tech at the new way of war that the US. The EU is getting more weapons from Ukraine and they are building factories in the EU
Napster153@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 122d
It's not just that.
Everyone and their mother knows that Iran had close networks with Russia and China. The fact that NO ONE in the West seemed to have learned anything or at least took inspiration from the Ukraine-Russian Conflict is testament to the stagnancy in the West.

Have you seen what they've been doing with drones my guy?
Grapho@lemmy.ml · -1 pts · 123d
That's not an example of them having superior cutting edge tech, which is what I asked you to provide if it was so obvious
sirscooter@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 119d
Drone warfare is example in of cutting edge technology. It doesn't have to be hard electric technology, but the technology of how war is being waged. Using 100 of cheap small drones to stop air attacks from large drones instead of patriot missiles. Creating zones where the enemy can't go it because of drone coverage. Wiping out a 3rd of a countries nuclear capabilities in one attack. Even while oil is at an all time high Russia can't take advantage of it because Ukraine is destroying ports making it almost impossible to ship oil out.

True info about Ukraine is limited on Lemmy.ml. Pretty sure that he/she missed something.
9skyguy0@lemmy.ml · 4 pts · 123d
What do you mean by true info and limited how so?
Bazell@lemmy.zip · -4 pts · 123d
Don't tell me that local admins and moderators stopped filling this instance with propaganda about how russia is good and Ukraine is bad. And also removing as much posts/comments as possible that even try to state otherwise. The only community(of which I am aware of) that sometimes tells about some news related to Ukraine is the World News comunity on Lemmy.ml.
So, unless you are visiting other instances, you are not getting much info about what is happening in the Ukraine.
P. S. If you know a community that actively posts true information about Ukraine on Lemmy.ml, I will glad to see it and reconsider some of my views.
9skyguy0@lemmy.ml · 4 pts · 123d

But I thought European countries were too weak to be useful in a fight?
And also if European countries weren't willing to deploy troops to the Ukrainian theater why would they to this one
