They're amazing. I can definitely believe someone dying after eating 14 of them in one sitting though. I can barely get through one before I just can't eat anymore.
Oh dear I hope you didn't just have one of those Lemmy moments that sometimes happen to me, where you craft a couple paragraphs of deathless prose, post it and realize there was a small typo, edit to fix it, and then hit Delete by mistake.
Oh no, thankfully that hasn’t happened to me yet! This was more of a replying to your comment when half asleep and then actually reading what you said properly which made my reply redundant.
Weirdly similar experience - one time in the college cafeteria, where the policy was take all you want but eat all you take, I ate 12 desserts for lunch. The portions were small. I stopped at 12 although I was sure I could eat one more, because I wasn't sure I could eat two more and stopping at 13 seemed unlucky. Apparently King Adolf lacked my superior power of risk assessment.

That is a mistranslation. It wasn't cinnamon buns, it was hetvägg, a type of cardamom bun swimming in sweetened hot milk/cream.

14 cinnamon buns would be rookie numbers

They are really good. Just make sure the cardamom is mixed in well.

Do you suppose he was trying to be the King of Sweets, too?

Or the king of The Sweet?

A time-traveler, too? At that mass? Oofda.

Didn't you know? All kings are time travelers. ESPECIALLY the Swedish ones.

Ohhh, that's what No Kings is really about? That makes so much sense now.

I make sure of that every morning, just to be on the safe side.

Yes, and to add: hetvägg is the precursor to the modern semla, which is probably pretty much a national dish here now.
The traditional hetvägg is equally if not more delicious though, although quite a bit more involved to make.

Given some cinnamon buns I've had in in my life, they could have just as well been heated drywall. ;)

It said "after" not "because" and not "died of a surfeit of cinnamon/cardamom buns"
Maybe he was actually suffering from a cardamom deficiency and couldn't eat ENOUGH buns in time to save his life
Catoblepas@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 32 pts · 89d
He was tragically on his 15th bun, which would have saved his life, when he expired.

As is often the case with oddball food stories, Max Miller of tasting history has done an episode about it

It might not be a hard limit, 13 might be more like the LD50 of cinnamon buns, more data is needed.

Baker’s dozen for a reason

Do not eat 14 cinnamon buns. You will surely regret eating 14 cinnamon buns.

So that's where we get the bakers dozen from..
Slashme@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 88d
We need a few more experiments before we can determine an LD50

A baker's dozen of Cinnabon probably won't kill you immediately. The renal failure, on the other hand...
