That is a mistranslation. It wasn't cinnamon buns, it was hetvägg, a type of cardamom bun swimming in sweetened hot milk/cream.

14 cinnamon buns would be rookie numbers

RepleteLocum@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 15 pts · 89d (13 replies)

They are really good. Just make sure the cardamom is mixed in well.

snoons@lemmy.ca · 27 pts · 89d (11 replies)

and that you're not a king of sweden

wyldrstallyns@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 9 pts · 88d (8 replies)

Do you suppose he was trying to be the King of Sweets, too?

Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 6 pts · 88d (7 replies)

Or the king of The Sweet?

wyldrstallyns@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 4 pts · 88d (6 replies)

A time-traveler, too? At that mass? Oofda.

Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 88d (5 replies)

Didn't you know? All kings are time travelers. ESPECIALLY the Swedish ones.

wyldrstallyns@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 3 pts · 88d

Ohhh, that's what No Kings is really about? That makes so much sense now.

Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 7 pts · 88d

I make sure of that every morning, just to be on the safe side.

atopi@piefed.blahaj.zone · 6 pts · 88d

what if you are a queen of sweden?

Rawrosaurus@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 6 pts · 88d

They're amazing. I can definitely believe someone dying after eating 14 of them in one sitting though. I can barely get through one before I just can't eat anymore.

Coelacanth@feddit.nu · 14 pts · 88d

Yes, and to add: hetvägg is the precursor to the modern semla, which is probably pretty much a national dish here now.

The traditional hetvägg is equally if not more delicious though, although quite a bit more involved to make.

Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 1 pts · 88d (5 replies)

hetvägg

Heterosexual/hot wall? 🤔

Hetero pussy

hot wall?

Given some cinnamon buns I've had in in my life, they could have just as well been heated drywall. ;)

Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works · 54 pts · 89d (4 replies)

It said "after" not "because" and not "died of a surfeit of cinnamon/cardamom buns"

Maybe he was actually suffering from a cardamom deficiency and couldn't eat ENOUGH buns in time to save his life

Catoblepas@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 32 pts · 89d

He was tragically on his 15th bun, which would have saved his life, when he expired.

Oh dear I hope you didn't just have one of those Lemmy moments that sometimes happen to me, where you craft a couple paragraphs of deathless prose, post it and realize there was a small typo, edit to fix it, and then hit Delete by mistake.

colourlessidea@sopuli.xyz · 2 pts · 87d

Oh no, thankfully that hasn’t happened to me yet! This was more of a replying to your comment when half asleep and then actually reading what you said properly which made my reply redundant.

LovableSidekick@lemmy.world · 20 pts · 89d

Weirdly similar experience - one time in the college cafeteria, where the policy was take all you want but eat all you take, I ate 12 desserts for lunch. The portions were small. I stopped at 12 although I was sure I could eat one more, because I wasn't sure I could eat two more and stopping at 13 seemed unlucky. Apparently King Adolf lacked my superior power of risk assessment.

As is often the case with oddball food stories, Max Miller of tasting history has done an episode about it

edgemaster72@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 89d (1 reply)

It might not be a hard limit, 13 might be more like the LD50 of cinnamon buns, more data is needed.

lord_ryvan@ttrpg.network · 7 pts · 88d

I volunteer!

wunderbred@fedinsfw.app · 7 pts · 89d (1 reply)

Baker’s dozen for a reason

wyldrstallyns@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 4 pts · 88d

That makes 14 a Frederick's Dozen, then.

Gates9@sh.itjust.works · 6 pts · 88d

Do not eat 14 cinnamon buns. You will surely regret eating 14 cinnamon buns.

voxthefox@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 4 pts · 88d

So that's where we get the bakers dozen from..

Slashme@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 88d

We need a few more experiments before we can determine an LD50

Sharkticon@lemmy.zip · 4 pts · 89d

Weakling

zr0@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 4 pts · 88d

So who is going to find out how much of the 14th can be eaten?

Kolanaki@pawb.social · 3 pts · 88d

A baker's dozen of Cinnabon probably won't kill you immediately. The renal failure, on the other hand...

aeronmelon@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 89d

To Cinnabon I go…

Did the buns kill him? Or did he just die of syphilis or something while on a bun binge?

MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 87d

Too much cinnamon i guess. Is too much for the liver.
