Thayer Amendment - 1866:

https://www.britannica.com/topic/Can-a-Living-Person-Appear-on-US-Currency

"The Thayer Amendment: This 1866 law prohibited the use of the image of any living person on “the bonds, securities, notes, or postal currency of the United States.” It was an outgrowth of a silly act of vanity committed by Treasury Department official Spencer Clark, who decided to put himself on banknotes intended to honor explorer William Clark, of Lewis and Clark fame. The congressional bill authorizing the creation of the note only specified that it should honor “Clark,” and so Spencer Clark decided to memorialize himself."

I didn't know the history on that, that's hilarious that it was passed as a "fuck you, in particular!" for one guy!

CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world · 35 pts · 101d (2 replies)

silly act of vanity

That's basically everything in PEDOnald's two failed terms.

A_norny_mousse@piefed.zip · 11 pts · 101d (1 reply)

Unfortunately that's not all the US admin has done during that time.

captainlezbian@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 100d

Yeah plenty of acts of petty cruelty as well

A_norny_mousse@piefed.zip · 7 pts · 101d

It's so American that there's precedent for that.

The worst thing about Trump is that everything he does has already been done before; he just accumulates.

dhork@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 101d

The thing with laws is that Congress can always change them by passing another law....

... but from what I've read, the current text of Joe Wilson's bill carves out an exception for "living and former Presidents". So, if this passes, we may get our Obama $420 bill someday....

marine_mustang@sh.itjust.works · 36 pts · 101d (4 replies)

Can’t be on currency? Put yourself on a non-circulating “commemorative” bill “for collectors” and sell them. Problem solved. Anyone want to take bets that this is what will happen?

turtlesareneat@piefed.ca · 18 pts · 101d

He did that years ago

CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 101d (2 replies)

I cannot help but wonder how the target demo for velvet paintings of Jesus and Elvis vs. that for bullshit commemorative coins sold that have "easy" installment payments vs. the demo that would snap up these (whether they are legal tender or what you propose may happen) would all stack up on a Venn diagram....

otacon239@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 101d (1 reply)

Make easy money for the low price of spending lots of money!

fartographer@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 101d

Gotta spend money to make money.

I've got that first half covered...

CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world · 24 pts · 101d

I've already seen anti-Pumkinhead things on currency, this bill is going to be the most defaced currency ever.

Also, Bessent is such a useless suck-up.

TheRiskiestBiscuit@reddthat.com · 23 pts · 101d (2 replies)

Bessent looks like Jim Carrey playing a cartoonishly over-the-top villain.

CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 101d (1 reply)

Bessent always reminds me of that SNL character that Wil Ferrell played - Harry Caray.

Smeagol666@crazypeople.online · 6 pts · 101d

Harry Caray was a real person. He was a baseball announcer for the Cubs. I never would have known except that we lived with my uncle for a year, and he watched the Cubs whenever they played.

sportsjorts@lemmy.zip · 20 pts · 101d (2 replies)

It’s quite untoward to have a pedophile’s visage on any of our currency.

CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 100d

I'd love to see some reporter ask Bessent what denomination will have Epstein's face on it.

SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca · 4 pts · 101d

Prince Andrew is on the back.

diabetic_porcupine@lemmy.world · 20 pts · 101d (1 reply)

Why not put him on the $1000 bill… then the $10000… and then the $100000000 bill…heck we could be the next Zimbabwe dollar

Whostosay@sh.itjust.works · 4 pts · 101d

Give it six months.

WatDabney@sopuli.xyz · 18 pts · 101d

And certainly you can trust the word of a grossly unqualified sycophant.

dirthawker0@lemmy.world · 14 pts · 100d (1 reply)

Isn't a person supposed to be dead first before we put their face on currency? I think the people advocating for this must be wanting it to be true! And wouldn't that be considered a threat to our lovely dearest Sir, King Pedo?

T00l_shed@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 100d

I may be wrong but I think it's American law

altphoto@lemmy.today · 13 pts · 101d

$250 that's a weird denomination. How about the Epstein files?

TryingToBeGood@reddthat.com · 13 pts · 101d (2 replies)

Illegal

HumanOnEarth@lemmy.ca · 4 pts · 101d

Boy have I got some bad news for you....

laranis@lemmy.zip · 3 pts · 101d

*for now

Floon@lemmy.ml · 12 pts · 101d (2 replies)

I look at this guy and clearly see someone with a crazy submissive kink, something really degrading.

kbobabob@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 3 pts · 101d (1 reply)

Is there something wrong with that?

Cethin@lemmy.zip · 2 pts · 100d

There's only something wrong with it if you think there's something wrong with it. It's like being gay, but a homophobe. It's wrong to make other people suffer because you can't deal with your own issues, or to make others suffer but you still get to enjoy the lifestyle they want.

brygphilomena@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 12 pts · 100d (5 replies)

I don't know why they keep using the idiotic looking down portrait of him for everything. He looks so insecure, like he's trying to be tough and failing.

backalleycoyote@lemmy.today · 12 pts · 100d (2 replies)

Impressive. Very nice. Let's see Paul Allen's bill.

“Strategery.”

whyNotSquirrel@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 100d (1 reply)

isn't it his mugshit?

brygphilomena@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 3 pts · 100d

I think your right. Even dumber then.

laranis@lemmy.zip · 11 pts · 101d (2 replies)

$250? Seems a weird denomination. Why not the $47 bill? I'd bet most Americans could scrape together $47 and frame it over their microwave oven. But $250? That's a lot of dough.

Does he know he doesn't get royalties? Or does he? Is there a bill in the works I haven't heard about?

Voroxpete@sh.itjust.works · 9 pts · 101d

They're just getting ahead of the curve on inflation. Don't worry, they'll have a $500 and $1000 ready soon enough. Those will be your new $5s and $10s by the time Donald is done with the US.

CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 101d

Oh, if you mean PEDOnald, he and his crime family are trying to set up themselves to be bankers to the world via their cryptoschemes and rake in untold sums as a consequence.

Royalties on a denomination no one but his idiotic mouthbreathing cult wants would be chump change in comparison...

Typhoon@lemmy.ca · 9 pts · 100d

The PEDOllar bill

Snapz@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 101d (1 reply)

Bessent just looks so much like a bad parody of a guy you want to punch in the face.

Mycatiskai@lemmy.ca · 1 pts · 100d

He's not a parody, he just should be punched in the face.

TheReturnOfPEB@reddthat.com · 6 pts · 101d (3 replies)

Firstively no other person in US history got to choose which portrait of theirs went on our money.

And secondish the jokes on him because I'll never see it because I never have that much cash anyways.

n01getsout@sh.itjust.works · 7 pts · 101d (2 replies)

Jokes on us because with his inflation, soon we will all be using those to buy a loaf of bread.

Hayduke@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 101d

If we aren’t wiping our asses with them. That would be poetic though.

vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works · 4 pts · 101d

Honestly if inflation gets that bad then between forcibly stagnant wages and everything else going on there's a non-zero chance we won't see that. Because the economy will probably be collapsed or we will be trading around literal food stamps issued by the states and largely given out to CCC like organizations. Y'know assuming we don't just see everything implode like with the Late Bronze Age collapse, after all trade is a lifeblood to all and a certain orange dipshit is pissing into an open bleeding wound.

Is that brown lipstick Bessent is wearing?

osanna@lemmy.vg · 4 pts · 100d

dumpy mcturdstain must be compensating HARD (teehee) if he needs to plaster his orange turdstain face on everything :/

FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca · 4 pts · 100d

Who carries $250 in cash?

modus@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 100d

I've already vowed not to accept any currency with his signature on it. Putting his mug shot on it will only make that easier.

anon_8675309@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 100d

It’ll be the pedo bill.

CCMan1701A@startrek.website · 3 pts · 100d

Cool, but no thanks.

he looks like if george w bush was a mormon

Etterra@discuss.online · 1 pts · 99d

For a second I thought you wrote moron, which confused me because I mean it's George Bush. But then I reread it.
