It won't. There've been sales before all this tracking. Only thing it threatens is raising the price arbitrarily for individuals.

Can you imagine as an old person you hang outside of a grocery store: psst, hey kid I'll give you a dollar to go buy me some back medicine. They know my card number and its 50% cheaper if you buy it for me.

Won't somebody think of the scammers?!

Reannlegge@lemmy.ca · 10 pts · 92d

Oh those poor scammers wont be able to rake in millions of extra dollars.

I'd consider that a worthwhile trade.

[X] Doubt.

It's more of a threat than the warning they are pretending it is.

Now do a ban on rent surveillance and any system that uses “data” to “adjust” rent.

Off with their heads. Metaphorically.

Addv4@lemmy.world · 21 pts · 92d

"Metaphorically."

These people depend on us having goldfish memory… they be right to a great extent.

iamthetot@piefed.ca · 3 pts · 92d

For the record, goldfish have perfectly capable memories and can even be taught tricks and remember them years later.

Boo fuckin' hoo.

Charge what you need for a modest net profit. Surveillance pricing is just the perfect refinement of capitalist cruelty.
