You can get closer searching for "pinafore dungarees". I found this, which looks similr I think. Most of them have a larger front panel, but there seem to be some on places like etsy and pinterest that have the narrower panel. I think it's just a case of fassions changing over time. Give it a while and this style will probably be back in fashion.

I don't have the best eye for fashion but to me or just looks like an apron ? I've seen some that also cover the butt like this, though they fully open from behind unlike dresses.

I'll try to ask my mom next time I talk to her, if I can remember to. She knows all the super specific fashion terms.

No, it has legs. I could find overall shorts who don’t have that connector and instead a zipper on the side, ~~but the product photo could be generated~~. I’ve seen also some with longer straps and black buttons
