Meh. Do I regret some of my inactions? Hell, I do. Do I regret some of my awful moves/decisions 400% more? I fucking do. The amount of cringeworthy brain cramps I get for just thinking of them for a split second make me wish they were just another one of my regretful inactions, instead.
The other day I saw some dude throw his cigarette on the ground before getting on line in front me to get carded to enter a bar. For a long moment I considered picking it up and going "hey, you dropped this" and handing it back to him.
But I didn't, because there's no way that ends happily.
My greatest regrets are all actions that ended up hurting someone. Even the inactions I regret most are related to not preventing pain which I had the power to do something about.
I think this post is talking about a different kind of regret or comes from someone with very different life experience than me.
Selection bias. You don't spend any time thinking about the occasions when inaction was the right choice, because they seem unremarkable from everyday events.
You regret the inactions that you think about, because you think about them, specifically as instances where you failed to act and that led to unfortunate consequences.
Disregarding the good outcomes of inaction is very relevant, because when you are mired in that regret it is the inaction that you are thinking of as being the failure, rather than the circumstances surrounding that situation. This leads you to the mistaken conclusion that inaction itself is the problem.
As it's been said, "It is possible to commit no mistakes, and still lose. That is not a weakness, that is life."
You caught me, I posted this to the public shitpost community specifically to piss off you, a total stranger! You should probably take it personally XD
This exchange is pretty much exactly what I always assume interacting with a Blahaj would be like, which is why I usually go out of my way not to do so.

I once heard cringing at your past self is a sign of personal growth!

Maybe the first time for a particular instance. The 100th time it's just depression with visuals.
CIA_chatbot@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 30d
It’s only depression if it comes from the depression region in France. Otherwise it’s just sparkling self loathing

Which is true.
Unless you are cringing at yourself from yesterday. Then you might still be cringe at present.

Fuck that, I look forward to the inaction. I only do shit to facilitate not doing shit later!

Yeah same, the things that haunt me are the things that hurt other people. That's not to say fomo isn't real, but it isn't what keeps me up at night.

Can confirm that this is not true at allllllllll

AliOski@feddit.nl · 3 pts · 29d
Not the claim though. It's about the inactions you do notice and supposedly will regret the most, compared to actions you regret taking.
I don't really agree with the post, but your comment has nothing to do with the statement…
NaibofTabr@infosec.pub · 3 pts · 29d
Oh, I disagree.
