States rights, until it's not.
Free speech, until it's not.
Small government, until it's not.
Protect the children, just kidding.
These ghouls thrive on weaponised hypocrisy. The only thing they believe in is nothing.

States Rights has always been a dog whistle for slavery and later Jim Crow.
And now? They are practically trying to repeal the 14th and they'll probably use that to make the 13th and 15th suspect too.
FiniteBanjo@feddit.online · 11 pts · 24d
Not practically, they actually tried it with Executive Order 14160.
Nobody is safe because no one has birthright citizenship under the Trump admin. Eventually they will move on from immigrants and target anyone they deign to notice.

In January, to punish America for the Midterm Bloodbath, Trump will announce an executive order for a Draft, and they'll send all the young trouble makers to die in a Russia-style meatgrinder war in Iran. MAGA won't care if they kill a million young American Democratic Socialists.
I'll say it right now: There is no possible way that my son will be getting drafted into a Trump MAGA War.
FiniteBanjo@feddit.online · 3 pts · 23d
It would actually backfire because 57% of male youth voted for Trump, and women don't get drafted in the USA.
For anybody who doesn't understand why 57% of male youth would vote for Trump: TikTok, Twitter, Meta, and Google told them to.
BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today · 2 pts · 23d
So what? MAGAs are safe, only Lefties will get drafted, and they'll draft women, too. This is the 21st century, women want equality, so the Draft is the perfect opportunity to give it to them.
It's not like they have to be good soldiers, they're just sending them to be chopped on the front line. That way you get rid of your political enemies, and you can blame Iran for it.
FiniteBanjo@feddit.online · 1 pts · 23d
They could certainly try that but historically not how drafts work at all. You can't discriminate draft based on political affiliation, it would just get tied up in courts over first amendment rights.
BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today · 1 pts · 21d
This won't be a legal draft, Trump will sign an EO, and they'll just authorize ICE to start snatching Military Age Men off the streets of blue cities.
And yeah, there will be a wild response to it, and the courts will be going crazy, and the MAGAs are going to barrel full speed ahead anyway.
After the Midterms, it's their last chance to survive, and they're painted in a corner. They know they only have two years to crush any opposition, or they'll go down hard in 2028, and they'll all go to prison, so they are going to come out swinging with everything they've got.

Well it's a dog whistle and a twisted truth which is why it's such a problematic thing to fight.
cmbabul@slrpnk.net · 3 pts · 24d
I would say they believe they should have or be close to power and influence. But nothing beyond their own aggrandizement and atavism

We need to start arresting ICE for actions taken while on the job. This is the consequence of tolerating them.
thesohoriots@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 24d
A little direct action can be surprisingly effective.
FiniteBanjo@feddit.online · 7 pts · 24d
Like the Dallas sniper who opened fire on an ICE van and ended up killing a detainee?
Sorry, but I'm more interested in Colorado's AG publicly inviting the public to make reports on the crimes of ICE.
Sanctus@anarchist.nexus · 52 pts · 24d
Then none of the state property laws apply to the building either.
CADmonkey@lemmy.world · 13 pts · 24d
What about the employee's cars in the parking lot?
Sanctus@anarchist.nexus · 12 pts · 24d
Fuck 'em

To shreds you say?
RampantParanoia2365@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 24d
...are those normally not subject to state law? Like...I don't understand your question.
stringere@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 23d
I don't think federal laws cover car theft until they cross state lines.
bufalo1973@piefed.social · 1 pts · 23d
I guess they don't cover burning them either.
CADmonkey@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 24d
Cars cost money and people have trouble getting around without them.
northernlights@lemmy.today · 37 pts · 24d
A federal agency of the united states saying states rights don't apply. Everything's fine.

There are no laws, we made the whole thing up
khepri@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 24d
I suppose a state can sign it's rights away in a contract just like any other entity, but I'd love to know if one EVER HAS. Because I don't think that's up to GEO and ICE to determine between the two of them which laws they are obligated to follow or not. At first I assumed that ICE had gotten some actual US State to agree to this, which would be horrible but at least would make more sense than a private fucking company and a federal agency unilaterally declaring they won't follow the laws of the state they are operating in, which is what this appear to be.
HobbitFoot@thelemmy.club · -1 pts · 24d
Officially, state law doesn't influence federal facilities. Federal buildings don't need to meet state or municipal building codes. State law doesn't apply on federal land.
States have agreed to this.

We hold these Truths to Be self-evident: That Reality does Not Exist, Disavowed By Our beloved Leader with His inalienable Powers...
Novus Ordo Seclorum indeed. It's right there in that holiest of scriptures.
bufalo1973@piefed.social · 3 pts · 23d
By that logic neither the ICE thugs are protected.
Triasha@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 23d
There aren't that many federal courts in the country. Wouldn't take much to create decades of backlog if they can't prosecute offenders in state courts.

Well, yeah, the stuff they do in Concentration Camps is really awful, they don't want to have to answer for that. Would you?
