To play the devils advocate, 16 is the age of consent in Japan (where these anime are made). Pointing out the character is 16/17 is the equivalent of pointing out they're 18. Whether you agree with that morally is a different issue.
I just don't want them to be in high school, man. Doesn't matter what country high schoolers have zero life experience and shouldn't be thought of as adults.
I don't disagree with you, to be very very clear, but I find it fascinating how radically things have changed since I was a kid (and I'm just a millennial). We were flooded with messaging, left over from a time when highschool was the last step for most before the job market, about how highschool was where kids became adults. How many films from that time hype sexualized high schoolers?
What the fuck their age is their age regardless of the age of consent. 16 year olds in Japan dont magically turn into 18 year olds to the rest of the world. I don't think that's at all equivalent
Legally, maybe. Socially, no. Traditionally in Japan "adulthood" is at 20 years. It's a whole thing. They lowered it to 18 a few years ago (it's been messy).
Pretty much every anime I like is like that. Interesting story, fresh take, strong art direction, just ignore that one bit where this character is a huge pervert.
Like, Overlord is one of the least sexual plots ever. Completely unnecessary to drive the plot forward. But of course some of the characters are obsessed with getting that skeleton dick.
but hey at least the show is bisexual horny. I mean the women definitely have unreasonably tight clothing but the men are the only ones getting sexy fully naked camera pans lol
Technically I think he just says he ātakesā the beautiful men theres some ambiguity there so maybe its just kidnapping lol
Plus I think OP has a problem with the like casual SA that happens in anime. You never see Puri Puri prisoner do anything really pervy like spying on people naked or groping people etc. Instead the worst that happens is that he is just naked all the time lol
This is how I felt with Time Stop Hero but it was the MC. I got drawn into it because it has interesting usages of time stop, like him stopping time to drag himself miles to a healer after receiving a mortal wound, BUT his favorite thing to do with time stop is to lift up women's skirts and stare at their panties for a few weeks straight. Like dude. You are a reasonably attractive guy who has special powers and does the cool fight. Just ask them.
I know nothing about the show but that's literally what I would expect from something called time stop hero. If someone recommended it to me I'd 100% assume it was hentai.
I remember trying out the manga a long time ago but noped out in the first chapter where the female character almost got raped and it all got portrayed as comedy. If that's the author's hook I have no hope or expectations for the rest of the series.
Yeah it's the same in the anime. Strapped to a chair, spread eagle with sexy lingerie on while the aliens whip out weird mechanical dicks and say they need to impregnate her.
Then the scene plays absolutely no role in at least the next two seasons.
Was it played as comedy in the anime? Definitely felt like a heavy moment, more horror than comedy for sure. Absurd horror at most. Same with the gators in the hot spring. Maybe the tone is different in the manga?
The moment when Kimura appears in Azumanga Diaoh..
More like John Pedophile
Also are we going to ignore that not only does he have a wife, he has a FINE wife with a child and he still wants to commit infidelity with a high schooler. And it's made for laughs that she is completely unaware she's married to a sexual predator
Ugh... It's one of my favorites but that part always is awkward
My brain regularly represses memory of this guy. Every time I see him I go "oh shit I forgot he exists" and forget about his existence 10 minutes after.
Definitely true for them being unobjectified and generally proficient but they often end up being quite forgettable and/or underutilized unfortunately. So it kind of goes from one side of the subpar female character writing spectrum to the other. Iād go into detail but I donāt want to go on a tirade about how disappointing it is.
Okay, so I was going to suggest Disastrous Life of Saiki K because thereās 0 fanservice and the main character is aroace.
Then, I remembered there is one character who is an incel and trying to get girls is like his whole schtick. However, he doesnāt show up very often though, and he never actually succeeds in doing basically anything inappropriate. So I still highly recommend it.
Fire Force, for a little narrative John Pervert. Cast has magic powers, some have drawbacks. Young Lady in the show has the "Lucky lecher lure" where accidents will happen with her and men where her clothes will fall off and she'll end up in uncomfortable poses (ass or titties pressed into the guy, or poses that expose everything). Neither party wants it to happen and she fucking hates it.
It made it so uncomfortable to watch I literally stopped because of it. Ruined their pretty good story with really gross, nonconsensual fan service.
Ah, the Juggernaut scene? I literally dropped it then and there. Infuriatingly tone-deaf scene.
The best part is that according to the author that character wasn't originally in the story, publishers pressured him to put in some fanservice, and he crated that character out of spite.
This isn't the first time the author has done this. An earlier show of his, Soul Eater, has a character that is a cat with the ability to turn into a woman. She doesn't have any clothes on when in her human form, and she loves to prank the human characters by transforming at the worst times. Fortunately, she is only the protagonists roommate, so you can go episodes at a time without seeing her, since the gang leaves her at home when they go out on missions.
most annoying part there is creator jumping through hoops justifying it. is why i like Bleach...creator just goes "i just ike big tits" when asked about the sexy outfits/boob windows.
Hisoka isn't sexually attracted to little boys. He's sexually attracted to strong fighters. Just because the two main protagonists are little boys doesn't mean--
Yeah, fuck that, can't do it. Yeah, Hisoka is creepy as fuck. But he's supposed to be creepy as fuck. He, at least, is never supposed to get audience sympathy or trust. He's a creepy groomer and is treated as such by the narrative.
It's better than Mushoku Tensei (Jobless Reincarnation) where the protagonist is a pedophile, gets ostracized in his original life for being one, and then after reincarnating proceeds to indulge his desires with little to no pushback in the series. People find him relatable and misunderstood. That's 100x more egregious than anything Hisoka did.
Yeah Hisoka's straight up a pedo. So is Rudius (jobless reincarnation). I actually kind of hated mushoku tensei for the weird romance harem quadrangle thing, like it's just the author's barely disguised fetish.
The most egregious part of the quadrangle is that it isn't a mutually understood and entered into polygamy. He's an adulterer and basically forced the, again, children into accepting it.
Leorio probably. Hisoka was a pervert in a villainous way, Leorio was perverted for comedic relief. One of the very few things I dislike about that show
I'm recently rewatching bleach and Japan has issues. I don't remember leorio ever doing perverted stuff, but I wouldn't be surprised. It's been a while since I saw it though
Oh you must mean MF Ghost and that character that only likes girl that are 17 and he's 35 or something. Honestly that whole show is horrible I'll rewatch initial D 100 times before watching that
Charlotte is a good anime, with the main character kinda being like this in the first episode. But that's it. I highly recomend it because the show has some of the best character growth ive seen in anything.

As in, in Japan, pointing out a character is sixteen is the same as pointing out a character is 18 in America.

I prefer that to anime where they show the protagonist's pre-teen sister, but say that despite her looks she is actually 18 and adopted.

Ganymede@sh.itjust.works · 20 pts · 19d

If we're talking about some, I suppose for the sake of the conversation, 'accurately portrayed pervert' then you might be on to something.
In my experience, in anime it is very rarely that. It is usually some variation of Roshi, where 'pervert' is a stand in for 'lecher'.
andros_rex@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 19d
Except usually they arenāt putting those characters in to make you feel uncomfortable? Itās usually presented for laughs or completely normalized.
