This is the most boring d&d party. How about:

  • firefighter
  • policerogue
  • mailcleric
  • fisherranger

Kolanaki@pawb.social · 34 pts · 29d (6 replies)

They can't all be the same class tho.

Firefighter

Policeranger

Mailmage

Fisherbard

And let's assign their race, too.

Human Firefighter

Elf Policeranger

Gnome Mailmage

Half-Orc Fisherbard

boomlandjenkins@lemmy.world · 15 pts · 28d (2 replies)

Why do you have to bring race into it?!

/s

black0ut@pawb.social · 7 pts · 28d

So the policeranger has an excuse to shoot the rest of them

Kolanaki@pawb.social · 6 pts · 28d

So the DM knows what bonuses they have. 😌

HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 28d (1 reply)

eh, fishers are more rangers than police.

kunaltyagi@programming.dev · 3 pts · 28d

Some lotta police is more orc (organized, following orders, and if you see a group of them, just turn back)

_stranger_@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 28d

Horcfard, the half orc Fisher bard.

If somebody told me this was how German worked I would believe it so I wonder if the reverse is true

dan@upvote.au · 13 pts · 29d (2 replies)

In frontend development, it's pretty common to use German to stress test UIs, as it's a commonly used language with a lot of long words. It reveals all sorts of UI issues - text that doesn't wrap properly, buttons that are pushed off the screen, etc.

I don't know German, but I do like the idea of using compound nouns rather than inventing new words.

It's also common to test UIs with Arabic, to test handling of right-to-left languages. At work we have a "fake RTL" language that's English but rendered RTL. It's interesting because everything is flipped - for example, a left-hand sidebar is instead on the right side in RTL languages. Company logo is at top right instead of top left.

FiniteBanjo@feddit.online · 7 pts · 29d (1 reply)

You will be happy to know I have confirmed your identity as a Non-Israeli.

dan@upvote.au · 4 pts · 29d

Because I used Arabic as an example rather than Hebrew? Or because I'm unfamiliar with RTL languages?

In any case, it's pretty easy to figure out that I'm Aussie :)

affenlehrer@feddit.org · 10 pts · 29d (2 replies)

This does not work in German because fighter (Kämpfer) is gendered as male. There's is female version of it though (Kämpferin). We have Feuerwehrmann and Feuerwehrfrau. Correct gendering in German is (I say that as an older a male) a bit complicated and makes the sentences usually mich longer or sound weird.

There was a joke solution to this that I really liked: add a "y" to the end or all gendered words: Feuerwehry, Frisöry, Mitarbeity, Erziehery, Arzty etc.

Monster or Ungeheuer would work too. Feuerwehrmonster.

DmMacniel@feddit.org · 8 pts · 29d (1 reply)

Degendering ala Phettberg may have started as a humours way toward gender neutral language, but it evolved IMHO into a serious way next to *, :, Innen.

affenlehrer@feddit.org · 1 pts · 29d

I wasn't aware but I like it. Makes everything sound cute.

War, fish, rumors, cheese, fear, and whores, not much else to be a mongerer-of :(
