AIPAC seems to be an undermining factor to American democracy.
LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net · 57 pts · 29d
All monied interests are. But yes AIPAC is one of the worst considering it's openly by and for the benefit of a foreign government. Imagine if the PRC had such an organization how that would be perceived.
The good news here is their willingness to support a republican here could make them into a great liberal boogie man with the right messaging.

The Democratic Party is just as much in the pocket of AIPAC as the Republican Party; if anything this will just cause AIPAC to increase their lobbying further.
Edit: I'm not trying to make a 'both sides' argument; the Democratic Party is far and away superior to the Republican Party. However, the party itself is not nearly as anti-Israel as its most progressive-leaning candidates are, meaning that a nationwide Democratic victory is unfortunately unlikely to result in the complete cessation of arms sales to Israel or recognition of genocide in Gaza.

I mean that obviously isn't true, that's what this whole article and comment section is about. Democratic candidates standing up to AIPAC.
Now if you said almost as much, I would give you a pass.
Zedstrian@sopuli.xyz · 1 pts · 29d
It just means that it's cheaper for them to lobby Republicans than Democrats as the former are predisposed to unconditionally supporting Israel. As a result, 58.6% of AIPAC congressional lobbying went to Democrats in 2024.
Not that resistance isn't building against AIPAC, but the central Democratic Party is far less anti-AIPAC than candidates like El-Sayed.

They don't deserve the down votes, they're right. Until the Gaza Genocide, a LOT of Dems were happy to take money from AIPAC, because there was little to no negative consequences for it.
Now it has become TOXIC to take AIPAC money, but they hate losing such a reliable pipeline, and their AIPAC handlers are probably demanding they EARN the bribes they've been paid, so they're really motivated to stay on the side of Israel, unless...
...unless it means they lose their office. It doesn't make sense to support Israel if it means it's the last political decision they'll ever make. We need to punish those who are still sucking AIPAC teat at the ballot box, in multiple successive elections, until Dem candidates know that AIPAC is poison, and stay away.

AIPAC was literally created because their predecessor had to register as a foreign agent...
AIPACs first recipients of funds, were the people who sat on the very same committee. I want to think just months later, but it was at least the same people.
And that's the story of how shit got so fucked up, and why AIPAC doesn't have to register as a foreign agent.

We need to ban both MAGA and AIPAC, as Domestic Terror Organizations.
AuroraZzz@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 28d
Hmmm. It seems like we give a lot of money to Israel and they return the favor by using that money bribe all of the politicians over here

Good. Now it's gonna be undeniable that AIPAC is working against the American democracy. Both by not conceding to the will of Michiganders and by spending against the only party that isn't actively trying to dismantle the democratic system. That's gonna make it even more effrctive for the DSA to use AIPAC against opponents.
Garbagio@lemmy.zip · 18 pts · 29d
True, I just hope the DSA makes ample, AMPLE arguments showing that this entire race wasn't a primary followed by a general, it was Al Sayed vs AIPAC the entire time. If Stevens had won, or if Rogers wins, AIPAC was getting everything they wanted regardless.

After the Midterms, Schmuck is going to stick around as their Israel man in the Senate, and Debbie Wasserman Schultz will be Israel's woman in the House.
America is about to become an Israeli colony.

It's kinda wild that the crazy antisemitic ZOG conspiracy theorists from back in the day turned out to be mostly right.
Manjushri@piefed.social · 2 pts · 28d
Hey now! Schumer isn't Israel's man. He belongs to the Baileys. A nice Jewish, New Jersey, Republican couple!
givesomefucks@lemmy.world · 39 pts · 29d
They'd have most likely supported the Republican no matter who won the dem.primary...
Israel is a poison pill for Dems, even if they can get you past the primary, they still want a Republican Congress that lets trump do anything he wants.
Ironically Israel is about to do most of the heavy lifting on purging the Dem party of zionists, the vast majority will all lose to AIPAC funded Republicans in generals even if they win their primaries.

Hopefully at the very least it costs a stupid amount of money and is painful.
gdog05@lemmy.world · 15 pts · 29d
The stupid fucking thing is it's our (US Citizens) money, by and large. We keep giving them money to interfere in our elections so that we'll keep giving them money. Classic Epstein class move.
wheezy@lemmy.ml · 4 pts · 29d
The Democrats that lose to Republicans will not just be because of AIPAC though. It will be AIPAC and the failure of the Democrats that run solely on "I'm not a Republican. We gotta stop Trump".
Democrats lose when turnout is low. They win easily if turnout is high, no matter what funding difference there is. But voters don't turnout when they've only heard "stop the bad thing". They are numb. They are use to bad things no matter what. They turnout when they hear people talking about a politician that actually wants good things. Medicare for all, childcare, etc.

I would so love it if they completely drained their coffers and failed in every endeavor they were spending on.

@inclementimmigrant I do hope hope people know what they want in life. Its not about Antisemitism. I do NOT support Antisemitism.
inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world · 23 pts · 29d
Okay...Not really sure what you're getting at here. Great that you don't support being a racist against people who are Jewish, that wonderful? I mean that should be just the default position of any decent human being, try not to be racist.
MokhtarStork@zirk.us · 1 pts · 29d
@inclementimmigrant Thanks for helping me know what you were getting at. I only dislike the word 'Antisemitic' being applied over the inability to swallow the truth... using it to label anything someone utters, which is valid or known in silence is unacceptable. I once again declare that I am not a 'racist'. UPDATE: It was pointed out to me were I erred by Mastodon. I do apologize and will avoid such mistakes .
