You forgot "This song came out when I was in high school"

Followed by a generic story about how they used to drive around the city.

rmuk@feddit.uk · 30 pts · 27d (3 replies)

Haha, well you know what they say about $hometown - if you don't like the weather, wait an hour! Haha!

Fawkes@lemmy.zip · 15 pts · 27d

Wow, that's extremely offensive! How dare you steal my hometown's unique and clever slogan?!

Pat_Riot@lemmy.today · 2 pts · 26d

We actually said wait 10 minutes.

surewhynotlem@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 26d

You sound British. Nttawwt. But your weather is crazypants.

Who's still commenting in August 2026?

Untamed_Star@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 15 pts · 27d

OMG ME

kokesh@lemmy.world · 37 pts · 27d (3 replies)

Who is here in 2025..6.. every video. Why do people write this shit?

Addv4@lemmy.world · 20 pts · 27d

My guess is it makes spoofing accounts seem more valid, also maybe boosts small time channels by creating (fake) engagement, so the YouTube algorithm picks up content from that channel. My "proof" is that when you see a shorts video with random top 5 family guy compilations (or other such bullshit), their comment section is usually filled with stupid responses like this (or asking what the source of the material is, despite it often being in the title).

JargonWagon@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 26d

Whenever I see it, it seems to be people reaching out to connect with others in the same community enjoying the same nostalgia. Some people are just lonely.

Thebeardedsinglemalt@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 26d

It's the same low effort shit comments so people can feel like they're contributing.

The same bullshit where in an SNL skit or standup clip half the comments are literal quotes and nothing more, unless it's followed by 🤣🤣🤣 I'm ded. Or "proof you were here within the first hour"

cattywampas@lemmy.world · 33 pts · 27d (1 reply)

I love when people comment "they don't make music like this anymore" because they most certainly do, and are probably making more of it than any point in history.

bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works · 8 pts · 27d

Its just wayyyyyyy harder to find now and folks dont have capacity to search.

Blibly@lemmy.world · 25 pts · 27d

"Who's still listening" SHUT THE FUCK UP

^sorry lol^

ODuffer@lemmy.world · 24 pts · 27d (4 replies)

They don't make music like this anymore... Half a dozen similar bands rocking it on 6Music/KEXP etc rn.

perishthethought@piefed.social · 12 pts · 27d (2 replies)

6music

TIL. Listening now. Thanks!

rmuk@feddit.uk · 8 pts · 27d (1 reply)

I always updoot 6music. Well-managed ABC playlist, informed DJs who get to pick their own tracks, plenty of background and relevant conversation (Artist in Residence, Freak Zone, Round Table, etc), and because it's the BBC there's no adverts, no fucking obnoxious competitions, and no desperate attempts at listener engagement.

If you ever get a chance to go to the 6 Music Festival; do it.

BigBananaDealer@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 26d

ill do the fest if someone pays for my flight and hotel 😂

melfie@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 26d

Maybe they don’t make it like that anymore, but AI will surely be used to pump out a bunch of slop just like it.

dylanmorgan@slrpnk.net · 18 pts · 27d

Plot twist: the song is Fuck the Pain Away.

ivanafterall@lemmy.world · 16 pts · 26d (1 reply)

"First post" vibes. Winning absolutely nothing.

slazer2au@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 27d

Any time I see those I assume they are engagement bots.

Speiser0@feddit.org · 9 pts · 27d

And if the artist died recently, the comments about this can bury everything else, on everyone of their song sometimes.

It also means that you find out about their deaths immediately.

This sadly happened twice today for me: Bonnie Tyler and EZFG

The comments can also inform you about ... other things about the artist that you just found: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KnZ6jnJ2zs8

postmateDumbass@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 26d (3 replies)

Im so old i remember when youtube reactions were called comments.

JargonWagon@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 26d (2 replies)

They still are...?

SystemDisc@feddit.org · 5 pts · 26d (1 reply)

They're obviously from the future. YouTube just hasn't changed it yet

JargonWagon@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 26d

Maybe I'm so old that I don't even know wtf "reactions" are and so this is just flying over my head.

pelespirit@sh.itjust.works · 7 pts · 27d (4 replies)

The "My wife passed away..." is so common. I would think that would be a turn off to the young generations on the music. Maybe that's the point? A lot of the music it's used on has been repurposed already in a new song.

PabloSexcrowbar@piefed.social · 6 pts · 27d (3 replies)

Am I weird for being angry at the latest wave of songs that straight up steal an older song's melody and reuse it in some inane bullshit? The one that comes to mind for me is that song that ripped off "Blue" by Eiffel 65 by David Guetta. It's not like Eiffel 65 was a modern Bach or anything, but the "I'm Good" version feels so empty and blatantly a ripoff that I can't help but get angry when I hear it.

pelespirit@sh.itjust.works · 5 pts · 27d (1 reply)

There are so many waves of this happening though, I think that you might be noticing it on your favorite music for this wave.

KrazyDrew222@piefed.social · 4 pts · 27d

Honestly a lot of Edm does this shit. Its one thing if its a remix or Flip or Edit. but the songs that are just built off a older existing song is just lazy. Also Edm is may favorite Broad Gerne of music before anyone claims im bitching about Edm. Tech house is my favorite of house followed by bass house.

TessaRekt@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 3 pts · 27d

This is like the backbone of a lot of hip-hop and EDM. It's been a major thing for a while. You are probably just noticing the the full range of songs that do it because they are current, over time the bad and average ones will be weeded out and fall from memory and the good transcendent ones will be remembered just in time for you to notice it with a new decade of music.

thethrilloftime69@feddit.online · 6 pts · 27d

This is how the comment section for the Halo theme song is.

It's ok to be nostalgic for your childhood.

TrickDacy@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 27d (2 replies)

Pretty accurate. Just missing "who else is here because they heard this [obscure song] on [TV show or movie]?!"

Also the guy on the lower left has a weird LLM look to me.

perishthethought@piefed.social · 5 pts · 27d

I'm here because of slartybartfast. Who else?

Courantdair@jlai.lu · 4 pts · 27d

This guy is Jimmy, Michael's son in GTA V

lagg_mine@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 26d

"Why is YouTube reccomending this ... Years later" they're washing out all the creative comments on old videos

BigDaddySlim@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 27d

Filthy Frank made a video about the "born in the wrong generation" part 11 years ago, fun to see that's still an ongoing thing

affenlehrer@feddit.org · 3 pts · 27d

There's also stories where this song played in their favorite song that's now closed forever.

I don't mind these comments though.

P1k1e@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 27d

Oh man, it's been a long time but just seeing Niko's face brought his voice back perfectly in my head

have you found fertile soil already?? send coordinates

Tudsamfa@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 27d

You know, I hate the Youtube-music channels as much as the next guy, like do I now need to check out both the artist and the artist-topic account?

But the one thing they got right is disabling comments.

BigBananaDealer@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 26d

i relate to the born in the wrong generation people only because i wish i could have gone to some of those concerts. my last concert was jeff rosenstock and i had so much fun
