I remember a while ago an American politician said, "God is non-binary", which predictably drew attacks from conservatives.
The Catholics I know (non American here) just kinda shrugged it off. "He's probably trolling, but not exactly wrong", and pointed me to the cathecism.
We ought therefore to recall that God transcends the human distinction between the sexes. He is neither man nor woman: he is God. He also transcends human fatherhood and motherhood.
In the same document they also simply use standard "he/him", nothing like what the meme suggested. The language of "Father", is used to invoke the image of a parent and figure of authority.
Without taking away all the unspeakably horrible things the church has done, as far as theology goes that seems... reasonable?
Aquinas was a big factor and from what I recall and defines his God as beyond these distinctions, incorporeal....but also has plenty hardcore misogyny as core theology.
Post Luther-Calvin-Baur-Renan and onto Bart Erhman & co Christology goes full bro science and it moves to a mundane flesh adult Jesus & St Saul derived from the Markan scripture and 7 Catholic letters as a new New Testament: repeating what they accuse Marcion of in 140CE for lolz.
I looked up whether Ancient Hebrew used pronouns, apparently they did with a bolded "yes." I find this really interesting though too:
The Tetragrammaton[note 1] is the four-letter Hebrew-language theonym יהוה (transliterated as YHWH or YHVH), the name of God in the Hebrew Bible. The four Hebrew letters, written and read from right to left, are yod, he, vav, and he.[note 2][1] The name may be derived from a verb that means 'to be', 'to exist', 'to cause to become', or 'to come to pass'.[2]: 40 [3][4]
While there is no consensus about the structure and etymology of the name, the form Yahweh (with niqqud: יַהוֶה) is now almost universally accepted among Biblical and Semitic linguistics scholars,[note 3] though the vocalization Jehovah continues to have wide usage, primarily in Christian traditions.[5][6][7] In modernity, Christianity is the only Abrahamic religion in which the Tetragrammaton is freely and openly pronounced.
The books of the Torah and the rest of the Hebrew Bible except Esther, Ecclesiastes, and (with a possible instance of יה (Jah) in verse 8:6) the Song of Songs contain this Hebrew name.[6]
Observant Jews and those who follow Talmudic Jewish traditions do not pronounce יהוה nor do they read aloud proposed transcription forms such as Yahweh or Yehovah; instead they replace it with a different term, whether in addressing or referring to the God of Israel. Common substitutions in Hebrew are אֲדֹנָי (Adonai, lit. transl. 'My Lords', pluralis majestatis taken as singular) or אֱלֹהִים (Elohim, literally 'gods' but treated as singular when meaning "God") in prayer, or הַשֵּׁם (HaShem, 'The Name') in everyday speech.
she's a detransitioned woman, because she was made out the mythical penisbone (which was only there because their god has awful QC where clay is concerned)
i like my mythology as confusing as possible. eve started out as a penisbone (from adam's clay penis, or clenis) so she was created as a trans man. but she had no clenis, so that makes her genetically female (since adam was assigned female at first breath up until he got that clenis, an adam clone would also be afab until they got however many clenises they want. it's mythology remember)
Lilith was cursed because she quite sensibly refused to have anything to do with clay penis or penisbones.
Basically all their god does is sit around making clenises and seeing who wants one. He got rejected too many times about his clenis scheme (it's kind of weird. and messy) so now he's a war god. All those spare clenises make good clubs. Well, at least the Tiny sized ones do (they're the size of a guy named Tiny. use your imagination).
adam and eve were cast out of the garden of eden not because they ate the wrong fruit but because they stole their god's stash of penisbones as a prank.
also "from adam's clay penis" sounds like a terrible album name i might have to use it for a song instead.
Thats actually a pitifully small number of checkmarks for a tumblr account.
They were added as an admin tier shitpost when musk announced the xitter checkmark changes - you can easily obtain upwards of 50 (in different colours even!) if you really want to.
when shitter turned the verified checkmark into a sub Tumblr made a joke letting people by their own checkmarks with basically no limit. of its still paying a corpo for a badge so I never interacted with it but some people decided to have fun
There's nothing new ("Neo") about that. It's been common practice for a long time. They don't cover it in public schools since it takes time away from crayon art.

I suppose they're technically archaepronouns, given their age

First time I thought about God not necessarily being male was the song Counting Blue Cars by Dishwalla.

God did have a wife though, who he fridged to try and convince people there had only ever been one god.

That's how catholicism goes a lot of fhe time. Reasonable, reasonable, ok but why can't women be priests though, oh that's a dumb as fuck reason
You'd think the whole nonbinary god would make them cool with trans people, but nope

Adam was clearly a trans man. He wasn't born with a penis at all. His penis was made out of clay and dust and then attached to the rest of him.
Buddahriffic@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 25d
Now do Eve.
Abyssian@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 25d
I haven't read that story in a while, but I don't think she was a trans man at all.

Abyssian@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 24d
Can we just do Lilith? It would make sense for her to be a trans woman since she wasn't born with woman parts.
Since Eve was cloned from Adam but didn't have a clay penis surgically attached like he did I think she's just she.
