Who would've thought the hand picked replacement of the establishment and Pelosi would be a worthless sold out piece of shit?
Not a single challenger. Not for Jeffries, not for Schumer, not even for goddamn president. Not a single white populist in the party either, discounting Bernie, that I'm aware of, and he's Jewish anywy.
Jeffries is the quintessential neocon corpo democrat. He, and others like him in the house and senate need to go. If you're a "democrat" and don't support universal healthcare, then you're just another obstacle to be removed.
In other completely unrelated yet shocking news:
Time to get rid of these clowns and get some people with better ideas in their place.
YES. And it pisses me off so much. Why the fuck are we subsidizing Israel's high standard of living -- one of the highest in the world, with universal healthcare and publicly-funded higher education -- at the cost of our own?
I am so tired of these old evil motherfuckers literally trying to buy a stairway to heaven with our tax dollars because they got the idea into their fat old calcified brains that God™ would conveniently forget all the evil they've done if they just make themselves friends of Israel and bless Jerusalem. Leave it to lawmakers to socialize the [perceived] cost of their own sins.
"For far too long, our party has seen its job as managing decline instead of delivering material change for working people. It has seen its job as explaining why we cannot instead of showing how we can."
To put it in a weird context: I am like 50 and I was so conservative as a younger man that I was nicknamed after Rush Limbaugh. OK? I was a pre-Trump right-wing asshole.
And even I favored Medicare for All. As a conservative Republican.
Why? Because it made the most business sense. You mean I can control my health care costs, cover everyone in the country, cut out like 2/3 of the paperwork, anyone can see any doctor, and I can let HR do something other than insurance paperwork? You couldn't build a bigger political win-win-win-win-win.
That's actually the issue that drove me out of the party. Romney running against Obamacare (aka Romneycare) as if he didn't invent the fucking plan was my last straw.
If you're a business conservative against Medicare for All, you need a new CPA.
I'm glad you can see the light on this issue, I live and work in a very conservative area and anytime I try to bring the business advantage argument up with the people around me they just fall back on "commie socialism" and "death panels" and then shut down on me. At this point I'm convinced even their God king trump couldn't convince them it's actually the better option....not that he would but you get what I'm saying.
IMO, it's not just a business advantage, it's a small-business advantage due to lack of bargaining power at small scale and the proportion of revenue (overhead) per employee. Big companies can bargain for better deals from insurance markets (bigger "risk pool"), and make way more per employee so it's not as big a deal. So, it's an tangible manifestation of "main street not wall street," if you feel like turning talking points back around for folks.
This is the corporatocracy in action. An unpopular GOP congress who refuses to check their own party's Unitary Executive, and a Democratic Party leader who refuses to back a measure popular with citizens. Who wins? Health Insurance companies. Who loses? The poor who can't afford health insurance, and those who have health insurance and can't afford their deductibles, so they go without recommended healthcare.
@inclementimmigrant Of course not, because then people would ask the uncomfortable question of why the Dems didn't implement it when they were driving the bus.
So continue to support DSA and those Dems who DO support univesal health care. Support them BEFORE the primaries. Support them by voting for them IN the primaries. And support them in the general election should they make it.
But just a quick reminder: A centrist Democrat will still stand up for more of your rights than a fascist, and this is where the "vote blue no matter who" comes into play. At every stage, support the candidate(s) that will protect our rights the most.
Source? All I could find was an instance where DSA debated whether or not to endorse his opponent, and didn't endorse his opponent. Also, Jeffries has apparently distanced himself from the DSA.
Don't bother - that yahoo you're talking to is from .ml and is full of shit & likely trying to sow division with lies. I've had another run-in with them elsewhere & they were just as full of it there, too.
The MAGA comedy act of Schmuck & Schumer need to get the hook, and be dragged offstage. They are 50% of the reason MAGA was able to regain power, and they should NEVER be given another chance at it.
The first thing the new House and Senate should do is remove these two losers, and replace them with Warriors. Then these two should be heavily investigated, because I'm pretty sure we're going to find they have been paid by MAGA or Israel, or both, to manage the Democratic decline.
They had their opportunity, and they squandered it badly, possibly by design. They don't get a second chance.
Once you realize the Democratic Party exists not to govern or advance its stated platform, but to suppress revolt and to capture and neuter any social movement that threatens the Wall St agenda, every baffling thing the party and it's leadership do starts to make a lot more sense.
Jeffries isn't a traitor to the party, he's a hero to the donors.
And this is exactly why some people believe that they're not worth a damn either . You got assholes like this that aren't making any case at all to show they're any better .
His name seems to always be connected to the wrong side of bettering society. Maybe that should be addressed next election. So wish we had a universal fast track way from local to President to call for no confidence when they repeatedly work against the public good.
If this is the opposition party, we are doomed. This alone is not the five alarm fire, but Jeffries is obviously not going to be a fighter after they steal the midterms.
I encourage everyone to vote early take some time off of work after November 3rd and go to DC like I have planned. There’s no getting out of this without us dying for it.
best we can do is return ACA subsidies, and undo GOP harm.
As minority leader, he's the favorite to be the house leader should Dems gain majority in November. House leader has a lot of control in preventing proposals from coming to the house.
I don't support medicare for all
Impeaching Trump is only path to getting any legislation not vetoed, and then impeaching any replacements likely needed too. Returning ACA subsidies may be something that is a horse trade for other deficit wreckage, but his answer was not that "medicare for all is not a realistic law we can pass before 2028" It was what I quoted.
I'll gladly criticize the DNC and upper Democratic Party leadership all fucking day long, but I say this as a quasi anarchist / socialist-libertarian: they are fucking leagues better than the republicans who are racist and xenophobic to their core, stealing unimaginable amounts of money from everybody they can, are defending a goddamn cabal of child raping pedophiles, and are doing their fucking best to establish a fascist state.
"oH bUt hE dOeSnT lIkE uNiVeRsaL hEaLtHcArE!!" yea fuck him, but to compare that failure to people actively protecting child rapists? Fuck offfffffffff.
I'll admit I left the US a few years ago, so I may be a little out of the loop but.. what fucking "actual socialist" candidates? Are there more than three yet?
One. My man, at the federal level there's 435 members of the House and 100 members of the Senate. At the state level there's 50 governors and 7,383 total legislative seats.
I don't think you can blame Democrats for being spoilers to "actual socialists" when "actual socialists" aren't on the damn menu.
According to Wikipedia there's 102 DSA-aligned (who are Democratic-Socialists and not "actual socialists") politicians at the federal and state level. Out of 7,968 seats. Barely over 1%.
I stay in the Democratic party simply so I can vote these assholes out with voting for their progressive challengers while donating and volunteering for them.
This is the way. It’s regrettable, but the only viable path forward short of outright revolution. Voting anything other than dem (or being a total fuckwit and not voting) effectively cements our fall to complete fascism.
But to your point. Progressives (such as they are here in the states) are the only hope to claw our way out of the hole neo-cons/neo-libs have thrown us into.
Didn't get me wrong, I'm a hair's breadth away from not voting for these Republican in Democrats veneer jackasses either.
A slow slide toward fascism is still sliding toward fascism and these worthless assholes are doing just that. I mean for fucks sake, there's Katie Hobbs running with a Republican right now.
Jefferies has a leadership position because it was held two weeks before the DNC chair.
If someone like Jamie Harrison (Feb 2021-Feb 2025 chair named by Biden) became chair, then not voting Jefferies/Schumer would have caused the biased DNC to withhold the stolen funds from the Victory Fund....
That's why they're "leadership".
However the voting members of the DNC got to vote because we didn't have an incoming dem president. So...
When they picked Martin, and he dumped all that money on state parties with zero strings, Schumer and Jefferies lost all their political power.
Jefferies and Schumer's only shot at returning neoliberals to the DNC, is if a progressive Dem doesn't become president in 2029. That's why they want you to leave the party, even if a Republican wins after Trump because of it.
If a progressive becomes president in 2029, they name the DNC chair, and that's game over for neoliberalism.
For the love of anything you care about, stop telling people the time to give up is right before we win.
I'll admit that I don't understand the inner workings of the Democratic Party, but I want to say: It's not that neoliberals control the money because they run/ran the DNC, but that the DNC had money because it was controlled by neoliberals. This money ultimately comes from donors, who give it to neoliberals no matter what post those neoliberals currently hold. To a first approximation, the more progressive the party is, the less money it gets, with the difference going to neoliberals directly. The point being: The neoliberals' political comes from their rich backers (and the media connections of those rich backers), not from their party posts, so while their power would be diminished by losing control of the party they'd be far from done for.
You underestimate the dedication of the rich to fucking over everyone else. They'd just rethink their strategy and try again. Not to say it's hopeless, but that the givesomefucks is being too optimistic about the fate of neoliberalism. Even if progressives become dominant in the blue side of Congress, there's still value (if you're evil and actively trying to impoverish people) in maintaining spoilers to deny them a majority.
It’s not that neoliberals control the money because they run/ran the DNC, but that the DNC had money because it was controlled by neoliberals.
No.
When Obama won in 08, he abandoned the DNC.
It operated in a zombie state for 8 years ran by neoliberals into bankruptcy.
When 2016 happened the DNC had zero money and only the chair knew it.
The chair and Hillary's primary campaign made an agreement with the DNC chair (no one else knew) that Hillary would fund the DNC. That came with the strings that Hillary's primary campaign controlled what the DNC said and did.
And that is what started the "victory fund" that stole money from state parties, and was handed to Biden, to Kamala, and Finally to the current DNC, who has given it all back to state parties with no strings already.
I highly recommend you read up on "the victory fund". Start with Donna Brazille's article because she was the first to blow the whistle. Literally "follow the money" and see that it's gone.
None of this is hypothetical, and Ken Martin didn't appear out of thin air, he had a decade long track record running a state party.
This requires zero faith in anyone, just like maybe an hour of looking up what's happened in the last decade of political history with the DNC, it is highly documented and takes the same level of effort as a jr high book report.
There's none cause not to put that level of effort in, and I'll most likely even edit in some links to start out with. But again, don't just take my word, look around yourself, all this verifiably happened.
@givesomefucks@Astronut my understanding is Jeffries is leader because he was Crowley's chief of staff, and it was "his turn" and his losing to AOC did not compute, so it fell over to his chief of staff like a hereditary title.
@givesomefucks they still have infinite influence with which to try to fuck you. It's getting harder for them, but AFAIK, everyone who is an "insurgent" is gonna vote for Jeffries and Schumer. This is why they went and are still going so hard at Platner, he swore to never vote for Schumer for leader. This is why they paid his ex to accuse rape like Scott Stringer in the 2021 NYC mayoral primary.
@Astronut@inclementimmigrant I did this after the DNC proved in 2020 that they'll just rig even PRESIDENTIAL primaries, in addition to their normal Lieberman/Cuomo running a candidate against their own ticket when they lose the primary. Now we need to start building an ACTUAL viable left party to oppose the rightwing duopoly parties.
Some Democrats. The majority of Democrats currently in power... You gotta be precise or you'll sound like a fatalist, and your self fulfilling work will be accomplished.
Just like all the other democrats, this man is not a real democrat. A true democrat supports universal healthcare. And given that someday, in the future, a true democrat may pop into existence, the only rational choice is to vote blue, regardless of what the person on the ballot believes and whether you agree with them or not. Do your part.
I support Hakeem Jeffries. Because sure, he may not advocate for anything thay improves my material conditions, but he may at some point in the future have a change of heart. And have you seen the other guy?

The bribes would stop rolling in if they were no longer getting them anything

You underestimate the dedication of the rich to fucking over everyone else. They'd just rethink their strategy and try again. Not to say it's hopeless, but that the givesomefucks is being too optimistic about the fate of neoliberalism. Even if progressives become dominant in the blue side of Congress, there's still value (if you're evil and actively trying to impoverish people) in maintaining spoilers to deny them a majority.

@givesomefucks @Astronut my understanding is Jeffries is leader because he was Crowley's chief of staff, and it was "his turn" and his losing to AOC did not compute, so it fell over to his chief of staff like a hereditary title.

You're talking about why neoliberals chose him to lead the neoliberals...
I'm talking about why dem politicians voted in him to lead the Dem house members: a biased DNC would bankrupt a whole state party.
And why Dem politicians are now free to criticize him: the change was when the DNC just dumped all that money and stopped the victory fund.
The DNC can't use the same stick it's been using, because it broke it into 50 pieces and handed them out to state parties that always should have had.

Getting mad at someone for a hypothetical doesn't make much sense tho

@givesomefucks I am confident predicting right now, win or lose Jeffries and Schumer win their next leadership votes.

@givesomefucks I'm not saying they SHOULD, I would curb stomp both GLADLY, but this is what "progress" looks like in the Democrat party

@Astronut @inclementimmigrant I did this after the DNC proved in 2020 that they'll just rig even PRESIDENTIAL primaries, in addition to their normal Lieberman/Cuomo running a candidate against their own ticket when they lose the primary.
