How much do they pay? I am extremely poor from a very poor country, a hundred bucks per month might improve my life tremendously.

You can redeem a $5 gift card for Microsoft for 5,500 points, or a $5 gift card for Amazon for 6,500 points.
So basically they're giving you $0.39 - $0.45 per referral with a maximum of $5.77 - $6.81 per month.

Ah, the old pyramid scheme.

And yeah you know how good something is when you push it on people.
Honestly I'm kind of baffled that big tech seems to have such a long history of the opposite working in usage.
IE facebook - started off exclusive to specific colleges, gradually rolled out to all colleges, then to the general population. IMO the long timeframe of "it's out there but you can't have it", was marketing brilliance that made people demand it.
gmail - google announced it on april 1st, to make people think it wasn't even real, Did a slow gradual rollout in which a relatively small pool could get accounts, then had their existing members be able to invite others. People sold their invites on ebay and similar, the demand was through the roof for them.
Google plus. Now you'd think google having both of those examples would have done the math... Nope "Hey you already have a gmail account, we decided you should use google plus too!, Your account is there. Hey we've tweaked your youtube account to use your real name so that you can already be ready to combine it with your google plus account! Hey USE GOOGLE PLUS NOW IT'S GREAT!!!!
IMO google plus was as ahead of facebook at the time as facebook was ahead of myspace. Hell I'd still say it's prime features make it actually usable in ways facebook never became capable of (circles as a core feature was IMO was the thing to make it perfectly usable. IE every post set so you can have friends that say care about video games, or dogs, or have compatible politics etc..., and effortlessly post to that group without annoying or starting a fight with others). But it's nature of telling people what to do... was a huge drawback. MS's products are seemingly doing that even more, admitted part of it is just the automatic built in drawback of being "microsoft", I don't think anyone hears the name microsoft and thinks "this is going to be a product that I WANT to run".
But I think the bottom line is, when you are telling the users they want to use it... you've pretty much already lost.

This is the same vibes as Chase bank offering $500 for depositing $250,000
Those fucks are brazen with their greed

To be fair, the primary means of earning points by that platform is to just search with Bing.

Which country?
username_1@discuss.tchncs.de · 2 pts · 12d
Ukraine. Why?
Fisherswamp@programming.dev · 1 pts · 12d
Just curious! It's not super common that people from poorer countries are on Lemmy speaking English, but Ukraine makes sense

Where else could I be? Reddit bans me every month or three. Twitter is not interesting to me. And that's it. No more variants left except for narrow-themed forums.
TIEPilot@lemmy.world · 14 pts · 13d
LOL you couldn't get me to use "edge" (god that sounds like masturbation) if my life depended on it...

It's the browser I use to check to see if all my other browsers are working correctly...

You don't use browsers to install browsers anymore on Windows of you know what you do ..

I use it in my reddit endeavors to see if I'm shadow banned... But the new system can detect that now days.

Ya whenever I see how the internet is without all my ad blockers and privacy settings; blows my mind people are raw dogging the internet that way!
TIEPilot@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 12d
Same here, it completely unusable w/o a cadre of ad blockers/script blockers/Dark mode/etc
Then you take like reddits new interface which even w/ all the above make the site completely unbearable. I don't get why sites feel the need to have to change their UI. I love Craigslist because they have never changed.

It's just a chromium fork. If it doesn't work on chrome it won't work on edge.
NatakuNox@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 12d
I know that but it's a browser on my computer that reminds untouched by any extensions, profiles, updates, etc. Gives me a unedited view of the internet to troubleshoot.

You had to go there! 🤣

We all thought it, no one said "this is a bad name" at microcock? Bunch of cowards.
Next they will make a version of twitter named "Squirt" and tweets are called "squirts". Trending will be called Bukkake. Retweets are called "Skeets"
jedibob5@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 13d
Funnily enough, reposts on BlueSky are informally called "skeets," though not everyone is on board with that one.
TIEPilot@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 13d
Oh fuck I was being cheeky, thats too funny!
/I don't use twitter/X/BS (again bad abbreviation, do they think?).
I swear I'm going to make a version of twitter called "People Only Society" so we can all be POS's!
QuandaleDingle@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 13d
Yeah I agree 100%, just thought it was funny. Childish me. XD

All Microsoft had to do was create a good product. Everything they've done since is orders of magnitude harder to accomplish...

Why make it good when you can make it mandatory?

i just set up a new laptop for someone--well just the account bullshit they couldn't get past. none of the tricks to bypass the microsoft account requirement worked, even the "WinJS" method that was the only known way to do that on s-mode.
i think from here on when someone brings me a new windows POS, i'm gonna just be nuking the oem load and putting a rufus'd one on instead if they want windows (and unfortunately, most do).

I don't care what anyone says. I love Microsoft rewards. I've got a free controller and two games.
Bluegrass_Addict@lemmy.ca · 1 pts · 13d
I bet the controller is broken and the games are digital only and soon to be unplayable
KC_Royalz@lemmy.world · 0 pts · 13d
Ya I buy digital, Got a problem with it? Controllers great as well
pycorax@lemmy.world · 0 pts · 12d
Are there even any games in the past decade that are available purely physical without DRM? You're gonna be locked to digitally only on PC in any case so I have no idea what you're on about.
