Just want to remind everyone - Pelosi supported and even robo-called on behalf of the anti-choice right wing D.I.N.O. Republican Henry Cuellar over his progressive primary opponent Jessica Cisneros… who he beat by only about 200 votes.
Oh, also Cuellar is pro-NRA… and Nancy Pelosi’s robo call support for him beating Jessica (again the pro-choice candidate that the NRA did NOT prefer) went out on THE DAY OF THE UVALDE SCHOOL SHOOTING.

What this is actually about:
This is pure Republican PR. They included a poison pill in the resolution so that Democrats would vote against it, and then they can associate those Democrats with socialism. The reality is that far more than 8 Democrats would have voted in favor of the resolution of it hadn't included that.

Marie Gluesenkamp-Perez's name comes up on these "defections" with regularity. She is essentially a moderate Republican, but that's not a thing anymore, so she's a Democrat. Her district is historically rather red, so we are unfortunately unlikely to get anyone better there anytime soon.

Yep. Within the city limits of Vancouver WA it's becoming more reliably blue, but as soon as you hit unincorporated Clark county...well there's a confederate monument. And Clark County is probably less red than the other counties also in the district. I do have my frustrations with Gluesenkamp-Perez, but we were depressing close to having the clown-show that is Joe Kent as our representative.
I think things are slowly changing, but unfortunately there's still so many people here who's whole schtick when it comes to politics are "HURRR DURRRR WE AREN'T PORTLAND LIBTARDS".

Also I'd never call Genghis a socialist but honestly he was closer than most people would think, for instance look at that advanced tax system with exemptions for doctors, educators, and poor people...his empire was shockingly progressive, I highly recommend looking into it more.

This is my biggest argument for socialized healthcare. The military can do it for all the families and it’s pretty fucking good(servicemember healthcare is garbage). Most people walk away from a childbirth only spending a few hundred and only because the hospital cafeteria is criminal pricing.

Socialism is the democratization of the workplace, that is all.
Single payer healthcare is not socialism
Building roads and infrastructure is not socialism.

The post office is not socialism.
Getting free stuff is not socialism.
Socialism is when workers control all means of production and decide what to do with what is produced.
There would be no capitalists in socialism because they would be illegal.

That still doesn't have anything to do with socialism. It's a capitalist country giving perks and benefits in exchange for labor. That's like saying that a private corporation with a health plan is socialist.
Even universal healthcare isn't really socialist. There have been constitutional monarchies where the king instituted universal healthcare.
Socialism means that the workers are in control of the means of production. There are different interpretations of what form that should take, but nothing about a system where capitalists control the means of production and occasionally do nice things to their underlings to keep them loyal and productive has anything to do with any form if socialism.

The DSA's mistake was using the S word in its title. What they represent is not "socialism," and that word makes it too easy for other politicians to promote shit like this ridiculous resolution. While true that the word is scary, the title is what they are. It’s just most people will think Democratic (associated with the democrats) Socialists rather than “Democratic Socialists”, all one term, that is not relating them to the major party that is most close but instead describing, “we would like light socialist policies that people vote for still”.
