nobody cares about AI art. Nobody cares about real art which is why most artists die poor and unnoticed unless they somehow end up as being used as part of a money laundering scheme
You're still free to paint pictures in your garage nobody buys
Nobody is like, "this AI Company is worth $867 million dollars because it can make pictures of cats
Drop the art angle, it just makes you all look silly
Not caring about real art and then telling us all to stop caring makes YOU look silly.
Art is a fundamental part of humanity, it's society, its expression, culture, etc. Art informs, entertains, educates, brings people together, and helps us navigate our world.
This is one of the dumbest fucking things I've ever read on the internet but I'll give you credit, if you don't think about it at all, you sound awfully smart.
Just because AI exists doesn't mean people will stop painting or making music. That doesn't make any sense. And nobody is going to care any more, or any less, about that then they do today
AI's value is not in it's ability to make art, it's in it's ability to do work. Actual work. Businesses are not firing their employees at record rates to replace them with cutting edge, "cat image making" technology
I didn't say it was a good thing. In fact it's what you should be concerned about.
We don't care TikTok has too many AI videos of dancing cats, we're worried CEOs are trying to replace us with robots. We're worried about it's environmental impact. We're worried about it's impact on the workforce. We're worried about how much power it can get or how it'll evolve over the years. We're worried about the harm it can cause when bad people get their hands on it, etc..
crying that AI can make pictures is so far off the mark on why you should be weary of it just makes you look silly. It leads me to believe you're all children who don't know anything about business and spend way too much time watching YouTube shorts
It is a driving force behind culture, empathy, society itself, and even science.
These AI companies are also lying to you about its effectiveness. That's the point I'm making. You've already bought their lies.
More than one thing can also be important, and I would argue that trying to steal art from people is vitally important and a much larger part of the fight than most understand.
Nobody is stopping you from writing poetry. You still can... and the same amount of people will continue to not care that you like, totally expressed the darkness in your soul; which is nobody
Being concerned about companies not hiring entry level employees making it difficult for college graduates to find a job because AI companies have over-estimated it's effectiveness in the business world is a legitimate complaint
No they are right. I’m a pro independent artist. I make my money selling the ingredients to my creations. People don’t really buy the end result. Regular people don’t care about art. It’s true.
Not sure whos down voting. They must be more optimistic than me. No one has ever cared about art in the grand scheme. People watch and listen to what they are fed. A few select autistic people care deeply about music/image creation and preserving the humanity behind it. Maybe .00000001% of humans.
In the end, nobody cares, "art" never was and never will be viable to live off in a capitalistic society. Like they said above, you care about my band that makes kind of OK music? Youre gonna buy my record to support me? Doesn't happen. No one gives a shit.
I did go on to be in a band that did get signed. Drummer died of an overdose before we got to put out an album. Had a lot of fun on the way up though.
You're missing what I said. Nobody is going to care any more or any less about the art you make than they already do. And for most of you, that means nobody is going to care at all; which is why most artists die poor
People are not going to just stop playing the guitar because AI exists. Local shows and concerts are not going to vanish because AI exists.
That's not what AI does. It's a thing AI can do, because it can do lots of things, but it's value as a technology is not in it's ability to make images or write songs, it's in it's ability to do business. Analyze data. Make reports. Manage business processes. Draft emails, take notes, schedule appointments.
Anthropic is not valued at over a billion dollars because it can generate an image of Will Smith eating Spaghetti.
There's a lot of reasons to dislike AI. It's impact on the environment, it's impact on jobs, the concern of how much control this thing can gain, issues with it going rouge, people using it for bad (like recent hacking groups using it to hack a number of health industry corporations going so far to steal identities and lock people out of medical devices), etc...
Being upset that TikTok has too many bad AI videos of cats dancing just makes you look silly. It leads me to believe you are all children
Yep youre totally right. All in all no one gives a shit about art. I can make a painting just like Jackson Pollock, splash paint out of a can whoopdy doo. Art is a human thing all humans do and so is worthless. Literally anyone can grab a guitar and write a bad song. Its not usable in a capitalistic society and never was.
Yeah ai ruined the internet but web 3.0 had already thrashed it anyways. I'm more worried about mass surveillance and burning the earth.
Gotta agree with the other commenter, this is moronic af.
I think it's easy to argue that whether they know it or not, people care more about art than anything else. TV, movies, and now Internet content is all art in some way or another and these things fill people's lives. Not to mention literature and any other type of writing that isn't just strictly informational. Art is everywhere and people kind of obsess about it. Not really sure how a person could be sentient and miss that.
Tv, movies, books, and 99.9% of internet content is art made by committee. Once the suits are involved it’s hardly any different from collabing with ai, in fact I think it’s worse.
I'm not really sure how you think this changes the point because it doesn't. People care about art, full stop. Art is not any one thing separate from society, it is everywhere in society. Doesn't matter if you think it's been watered down, people still care about it.
AI is not going to stop people from drawing, or painting, or playing musical instruments
Nobody is going to care any more or any less about any of this stuff than they already do. And how much do they care is questionable.
There's a reason your mother probably doesn't know who NBA YoungBoy is and it's because she doesn't give a fuck about new music. She's not at art galleries buying paintings all day and her excitement level for the new spiderman film basically doesn't exist. Why? Because she's an adult and adults just don't really care about this shit
AI is not about making art, it's about doing actual work. Businesses are not firing their employees at record rates to replace it with cutting edge "cat image maker" technology
Okay you said no one cares about art, which is absurd, then when told that you just ranted about related thoughts and slapped a "ai is about getting work done" on the end lol.
No it's not, it's about extracting what's left of societal wealth so I can be even more concentrated at the top.
But regardless, people care about art and you sound like an ass.
So if AI can't get work done how are the CEOs going to use to extract more wealth?
And if you agree that's why people think it's so valuable... where does it's ability to make cat pictures fall in there?
The top 1% using it to extract more of societal wealth is what you should be posting about here. Not your annoyance with how many AI Slop videos are on TikTok
You will not succeed in drawing me into a debate that has nothing to do with the original point. People care about art, unless they are stupid fucks, and usually even if they are stupid fucks.
You're free to paint a picture in you garage even though AI exists. And just how nobody cared before AI that you did this, nobody will care if you do it after AI.
There are probably a million signed country musicians that you've never heard a single song from, and you don't care.
You have no idea who the next big up-and-coming painter is or what millionaire just purchased their latest piece
And it only gets worse as you get older. One day you'll wake up, see a poster for Warped Tour and realize you have no idea who any of those bands are; and you don't care
In fact, it would be sad if you did. If you have so little going on in your life that're a middle aged adult that still freaks out about the new Spider Man movie or what reality TV star is dating who... it's just sad
Adults are worried about the job market, the environment, and that the military is integrating AI into it's operations and that we might accidentally start a nuclear war because a bird shit on a radar dish and the AI thought we were under attack
You're worried TikTok has too many videos of AI cats

What a stupid statement. So much art is born out of compassion, empathy, love, boredom, hornyness.... But a machine can't feel any of those either
determinist@kbin.earth · 28 pts · 20h
Seems like they're trying to be edgy.
Change "trauma" to "emotion" (maybe?) and the quote is less shit.

Oh like your horniness isn't born out of trauma! Pfft.

This quote is proof that we haven't lost our humanity. It shows that AI doesn't have a monopoly on saying stupid things.

Nah, all art is a form of expression, AI lacks expression.

Expressions of feelings. Love, sadness, hatred for AI slop. Those kinds of expressions.

I love when people try to define art to suit their argument. That is really what art is about.

I finished reading Maus last year. Went to YouTube to see other peoples thoughts on the book. Found 2 great videos, and 1 AI short. That sucked
Nouvellalia@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 7h
AI was born to narcissistic HR mommies and fascist CEO daddies. AI knows trauma.
Also, I'm putting on a post-collapse retro future, roller derby power metal opera, and those are the names I've chosen for the teams.
ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca · 1 pts · 9h
AI knows trauma, it causes it sometimes.
AlteredEgo@lemmy.ml · -3 pts · 17h
No, art is born out of seeing something with your inner eye. SHOW ME something that has never been seen or thought of before.
Trauma is entirely optional for the melodramatic people. Art is not about the artist.

Ok, you're literally on the internet right now. Go look at exactly how "replacing workers" has worked out for the vast majority of these companies.
I'll be here when you get back.
There is zero evidence of replacement, and plenty of rehiring and executive tails between legs.
You've been sold a lie again, and you bought it hook, line, and sinker.
That's it. Gen AI is interesting, but the hype is horseshit and robots cannot create art.
Stop telling people to stop caring, caring is cool.
