His character and that episode specifically was a tour de force of writing and cinematography. Absolutely crushed every second he was on screen.
You and I both know for a fact if he wasn't gay not only would there be essentially no overt hate if that episode or character, but actually more than that these right wing losers just never would have heard of it AT ALL.
They don't consume art for arts sake or enjoy things because it's what they enjoy. It isn't honest criticism coloured with different opinions and life views as my own.
Art only exists for them as a sounding board to either reinforce their own ideals or stamp out others.
My own view:
Those right wing nuts would have LOVED his character, were he not gay.
Nearly everything else about that character fits perfectly into the archetype of masculinity and rugged individualism these same chuds jerk off about.
Yep he was a full on libertarian prepper lone wolf (who happened to like dick). And the show even went out of its way to show us that this gay guy needed the world to literally end for him to be able to embrace his own sexuality. The guy never had a gay relationship in this whole life, probably because of fear of "his people" turning their backs on him
You and I both know for a fact if he wasn’t gay not only would there be essentially no overt hate if that episode or character, but actually more than that these right wing losers just never would have heard of it AT ALL.
And that's the kicker. I used to be pretty deep in internet culture, big time redditor, my finger well in the pulse of what's going on. It still took me a while to figure out why, all of a sudden, people I worked with lost their fucking minds at bud light. All of 'em had the exact same arguments and would repeat the same talking points about it, how they were shoving it down their throats...and I had to spend extra time to find it.
My best guess...the only people shoving it down their throats* were out likes like, or otherwised sources from, focks nooz
They don't consume art for arts sake or enjoy things because it's what they enjoy. It isn't honest criticism coloured with different opinions and life views as my own.
My wife and I go to an art museum a year for fun. Sculpture taught me what I love about music. It's all connected.
That was such a good episode too. Gay characters written like human beings instead of some caricature of gay people, with the "gayness" not being the whole point. No pandering or anything, just a great love story that happens to be between 2 men. Made for a much more interresting character than in the game, something that doesn't happen very often.
What I like about it is it took what was in the game, expanded on it, and approached it from a different angle. It only changed just one small detail and that turned a tragedy into a love story.
I can't recall the exact details, it's been a long ass time, but I think at some point you end up finding his hanging corpse. There's a note and basically implies he committed suicide because he got bit trying to get away from bill, who was being a dick.
In the game Bill never overcame his paranoia and was unwilling to accept Frank's attempts to let others into their lives, causing Frank to leave. Frank committed suicide after getting bit and Joel discovers his body and a letter he wrote for Bill, and later gives it to Bill as he leaves. I think it's implied that Bill also commits suicide after Joel leaves.
Couldn't agree more. I don't really watch romantic stuff, but that episode made me sob a lot. The writing was terrific. Offerman and Bartlett put so much humanity and real emotion into their roles.
There are a billion TV shows and movies every year that depict heterosexual couples, but he can't let the ONE gay story go by without taking a kick at it. What a putz.
One of the best episodes of TV I've ever seen, period. I'm a huge TLOU fan so I may be biased, but most of that episode is a self-contained story. I cried at the end of it.
Ben Shapiro is most likely a repressed gay dude with how open he is about hating dick. He is so fascinated with it that he seems unaware he's talking about it all the time. He should literally just go ahead and suck a few. It would shut him up (dick in his mouth) and still his lust at the same time.
Skip to around 5:30 if you just want the funniest part. He was mocked so much for this take and iirc he kept doubling down on it. There also was a pretty hilarious parody video someone did of the situation which I'm too lazy to go find right now
And his absolute revulsion at the song Wet Ass Pussy... plus his doctor wife's assurances that wet pussy is an abnormal medical condition, not a natural feature of female arousal. She knows too, and cannot stand the closeted hatemonger either.
It's been posted tons of times that Grindr shuts down in whatever city they have a convention in, but that makes zero sense. Grindr doesn't have local servers to deal with local traffic. It would have to mean that they take all of Grindr down and I think we'd be hearing about it a lot more if that was the case.
I have no doubt there's a very real spike in traffic though.
Could be 1-5 on the Kinsey scale too, as many people are but don't know about that, or try to learn the truth. Raised in controlling and demanding environments can cause repression of this and other normal things, which damages them and humanity with their acting out.
Q: Why do some people in controlling/demanding environments repress their Kinsey scale 1-6 sexuality, and even speak and vote against other bi/gay rights, get caught sometimes with same gender too, act out later? More here or search on your own: share.google/aimode/PCcVM9R2E1bvXi7QJ If you feel angry or anxious when you read that, there is an explanation for that too.
Im not a fan of the whole “homophobia is always repressed homosexuality” trope, but Ben Shapiro is like the defining example poster-child for that being true. A man who heard WAP and thought it was a medical disease
I'm pretty sure bisexuals can also choose to not have gay sex. But you are correct in Shapiro world because there bisexuals are mythical beings who don't exist.
Failed screenwriter & demagogue Ben Shapiro is jealous of a successful TV show and uses hateful, bigoted rhetoric to grift people indoctrinated with similar hateful bigotry.
Many of life's issues are caused by large groups of less than average intelligence following the leadership of someone less than reasonable or rational. Be it from a lack of intelligence or other cognitive disabilities.
The mob needs direction, leadership is often as simple as pointing the mob in the direction it would already follow anyway but that gives the mob the belief that it is the correct/acceptable/true direction
He is a biggot. He is intelligent. He is a narcissist. He is blinded by his self worth. He is a smarmy little fuck who uses a lot of words to talk in circles, and is very quick with his ability to reply. He is well coached but stands on certain pillars he won't ever reevaluate. Possibly he can't
Someone said Mr Beast has the most punchable face in a different post. My first thought was no thats probably Ben Shapiro.
It’d be a lot more effective to just ignore Ben Shapiro. The guy made his wealth on getting attention for outrageous views. Ignoring him is more effective than calling him out and in turn directing more attention at him.
It’s not like he’s gonna stop being homophobic when that’s what pays his bills
The guy made his wealth on getting attention for outrageous views.
Doesn't even have the clout for that. Shapiro made his money by shilling for the Wilks brothers. The same oil tycoons who funded Prager U and the daily wire.
No one in the right winged media circuit is famous for their own merit, they're all just funded by billionaire oil and gas owners.
Conversely, shapiro is and always will be an abject and definitive failure, struggling impotently to pull the rest of the world down beneath his own tragically low bar.
Didn't read it all comments but seems like a good episode, didn't want spoilers even if not in my current watch list (got many going on and fewer are too serious ones). Offerman and Mullally rock, and even better they seem quite happy together from any bits I've heard.
I bet Shapiro is just jealous of them and found something to screech about for the day. He's all confused about people who can be happy and accepting, not in his nature.
Do want to watch the series still, I never finished the first game even or got far in it. On my list with the show to do at some point.
Also if you want to see early Offerman I recommend the movie Groove which he had a small part as a cop inspecting a rave, back when they weren't commercial so had a fun feel for us racers back then. if that's not your thing I believe he was in a number of sitcoms in the 90s as well, with small parts.
No spoilers but that episode is one of the best. Its plot is implied by a note in the game, but not shown or addressed at all.
So they basically got free rein and made one of the best fucking stories to come from that series. You could watch that episode by itself and lose nothing if you wanted, FYI.
