well yeah. i love me some foss stuff. but from an os level, the footprint and response to cves from an oss os vs a corporate one i can see going both ways. in short, i should pick up and try a graphene one.
I don't think it was ever that troublesome. But custom rom support was indeed a hit or miss thing. I bought FP6 with /e/OS preinstalled for this reason and had no issues. At least no major ones. No babysitting required stuff just works.
Other popular option is google pixel with graphene.
Using GrapheneOS is as simple or as complicated as you want it to be. I'm not de googled entirely as I use the play store for some apps, but running the sandboxed play store and an F droid client is all it takes. That's like 5 minutes of setup. It's really not different from stock android or iOS except I have two app stores to choose from instead of one. It all updates automatically and just works
I wouldn't bother with the mobile devices so much.
Google is deeply embedded in the zionist entity. It has multiple subdivisions located there, deep ties to their intelligence apparatus (and to the US intelligence apparatus) Jumping from paying apple $1000 for a phone to paying Google $1000 for a phone that you install another OS on doesn't really help IMO and is like jumping from a boiling pot into the deep fryer next to it.
Don't buy Mac computers, don't buy Apple accessories, don't buy in iTunes, and limit app store purchases where feasible. That and putting up some stickers/posters or making more people aware of this complicity to hit Apple even a little in the pocket will do more than switching phone ecosystems like that.
i replaced by macbook with a lenovo which came without any OS (no microsoft taint!).
i replaced by iphone with a fairphone running e/OS/, it can do anything my pro max could except take equally good photos, for some that might be a dealbreaker but avoiding US stuff is more important for me. there is also jolla as an alternative, but it costs three times as much.
i switched to pcloud (a swiss pay-once model) from icloud, it took a couple of hours to download 53.000 photos, since they limit it to 1000 at a time (maybe there was a better way to do it). it works so much better than icloud too.
i switched to several mail providers that weren't quite what i needed until i found a local server provider, costs me $20 a year + $20 for a domain, with some 50gb of email storage. they have since increased their price but i'm locked in to this offering. if they ever force bump the price i'd try mailbox.org though.
i tried to use cryptdrive for writing and documents but there is no native software and it's annoying to use on phone so i now basically do all my writing and notes in upnote. it's everything i need in terms of writing and sharing and uses a pay-once model. they also add all features i have personally ask for, so that's really cool.
i had already used bitwarden for all passwords and proton authenticator so i don't need to move any of that shit over.
i haven't used any google products in like 10 years anyway (it's why i switched to apple in the first place. but i feel like now the open source or european alternatives have finally caught up with the standards i need).

Also, only a few selected ROMs support VoLTE. Sure, you still can install the ROM but your phone won't make calls, unless the area is covered by legacy 2G. Most carriers will require VoLTE to unlock the SIM, tho.
You could always install AOSP-based ROMs (LineageOS, /e/, etc.) on those non-Google Android phones. Google doesn't really make any money from those (if you avoid Gapps).
If you want to avoid Android and iOS altogether, you're going to be disappointed with Motorola as well, because they'll keep using Android (which, just like the other ROMs, GrapheneOS is based on), leaving you with basically just Linux-based operating systems like postmarketOS, Ubuntu Touch or Sailfish OS.
Like Huawei and China are any better than the US companies.
Right now there are almost no options not linked to some major political movement or crime against humanity.

I’ve been slowly backing out of the Apple ecosystem since the last election, but being present, the sacrifice of time and place, at town meetings, party meetings, etc. is going to have a much greater impact on the world around you than trying to purchase salvation with phone.
The official BDS list is very small and targeted and does not contain Apple (yet). BDS is meant as a starting point for the most important companies to boycott according to the BDS org. Boycotting beyond that is still effective.
I use an extended list that contains companies connected to those on the main list, and companies connected to those companies. I'm still a little surprised Apple hasn't been on the official list yet, but hopefully this will get them added to it.
I use the No Thanks app which contains almost every brand and only occasionally run into some tech stuff which is difficult because almost all of the major players have Israel links but I try to get AMD since they're least bad in that respect for now.
I use Boycat, which has a barcode scanner. There are a few things that I've found that should be on its list that aren't (largely due to recent buyouts), but it's very handy when I'm not sure about something in the store.

If your battery is good and you're happy with your camera, there's no reason to upgrade any more often than like 6-7 years on flagships these days. Cheap phones will actually get outdated in that time.
I have a 12 mini I just replaced the battery on. I'll keep it running as long as I can, hopefully a few more years. I took it out of its case for the first time when I had the battery replaced, it looks brand-new, perfect condition.
Truth is, I'll probably go with Apple again whenever this phone bites it. But, who knows?
It's not the end of the world. Boycotting matters most and is easiest when you don't care much about a product brand. Which are most products for most people.

In our current state; the lack of privacy, I challenge myself on why I need a newer similar model of phone. Like the number of apps I used has significantly decreased and continues to. Having the shiniest new toy is not with it, especially when it’s not novel.

Better battery life and camera mostly.
If your battery is good and you're happy with your camera, there's no reason to upgrade any more often than like 6-7 years on flagships these days. Cheap phones will actually get outdated in that time.

I have a 12 mini I just replaced the battery on. I'll keep it running as long as I can, hopefully a few more years. I took it out of its case for the first time when I had the battery replaced, it looks brand-new, perfect condition.
Truth is, I'll probably go with Apple again whenever this phone bites it. But, who knows?

It's not the end of the world. Boycotting matters most and is easiest when you don't care much about a product brand. Which are most products for most people.
