Yes, let's send away every popular democrat, why even bother winning over Trump, even if the other option isn't ideal

cattywampas@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 8d (1 reply)

So popular she was like the first one to drop out of the 2020 primary.

Objection@lemmy.ml · 2 pts · 7d

Also so popular she suffered the worst electoral defeat since California went Republican.

Natanael@infosec.pub · -6 pts · 8d (8 replies)

You're learning the wrong thing

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/sep/30/harris-trump-economic-proposals-poll

Kamala Harris’s economic policies proved far more popular than Donald Trump’s plans in a blind test of their proposals.

https://www.levyinstitute.org/publications/trump-wins-while-americans-vote-for-progressive-policies/

This was not a loss on policy. This was not a loss on ideas.

This was a propaganda war, people were lead to fear the Democratic party and were convinced Trump was a good businessman.

People said they voted for Trump due to the economy, while every economic policy they liked when presented it without a name attached came from Kamala. They HATED Trump's ideas when his name wasn't attached.

Stop teaching yourself the wrong lesson. Get prepared to fight the propaganda, don't join the infighting.

rumimevlevi@sh.itjust.works · 23 pts · 8d (7 replies)

Policies are meanignless if you are bad are presenting them or people do not trust that you will accomplish them

DillDough@lemmy.zip · -6 pts · 8d (6 replies)

Listen to her speak, she is actually really good at presenting her policies, the issue is nobody will pay attention to her and she won't lie to get the attention she feels she needs like Vance has stated he does. Remember during the 2024 election cycle when she literally had to chase down reporters? There are endless examples of her walking up to the press and trying to discuss policy just for them to shut her down without a chance to speak... meanwhile those exact same people were doing anything to be the 9 trillionth person to report on whatever nonsensical blatant lies and hate were spilling out of Trump's mouth at the time.

And all of that aside...how in the fuck are you going to claim somebody lost to Trump because they were bad at presenting policy? Trump has the poorest speaking abilities of anybody in the entire history of US politics, same with his displayed understanding of policies, laws, governmental structure, constitutional framework, etc. He is literally the absolute worst we've ever had at all of the things you say are the reasons the other side lost.

kreskin@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 7d

yes, when we she get the credit she deserves for being such a great communicator?

Kamala Harris on geography: So, Ukraine is a country in Europe. It exists next to another country called Russia. Russia is a bigger country. Russia is a powerful country. Russia decided to invade a smaller country called Ukraine. So, basically, that’s wrong, and it goes against everything that we stand for.

on community banks: We invested an additional $12 billion into community banks, because we know community banks are in the community, and understand the needs and desires of that community as well as the talent and capacity of community.

on the pandemic: We also recognize just as it has been in the United States, for Jamaica, one of the issues that has been presented as an issue that is economic in the way of its impact has been the pandemic.

on Roe v. Wade: I think that, to be very honest with you, I do believe that we should have rightly believed, but we certainly believe that certain issues are just settled. Certain issues are just settled.

on the 50th anniversary of Roe v. Wade: I think of this moment as a moment that is about great momentum.

on a mass shooting in Highland Park, Illinois: We’ve got to take this stuff seriously, as seriously as you are because you have been forced to take this seriously.

on space exploration: It is critical that we… partner to ensure that we are speaking the same language with the same motivation, inspired by the opportunity of it all, but then doing the work of updating how we have been talking and thinking about our exploration in space.

on transportation: Together, we are expanding access to transportation. It seems like maybe it’s a small issue; it’s a big issue. You need to get to go and need to be able to get where you need to go to do the work and get home. Kamala Harris on the record flow of illegal immigrants crossing the border We have a secure border in that that is a priority for any nation including ours in our administration.

Harris on water policy: We have long — and Wade and I worked together for years back in San Francisco — talked about the importance of taking seriously the urgency of this moment and, in particular, in dealing with the various issues that are present when we look at the climate crisis, thinking about water policy, diversifying water policy, understanding that we must have the ability to diversify our approach and our — and the resources to everything from what we do in terms of conservation to recycling, desalination, and storage of water.

I'm inspired. Arent you inspired? I mean, she is the one person who could continue Bidens oratory legacy, but we passed her by because of the trivial issue that she wouldn't oppose genocide. Thats just unfair, right. Clearly this is 100% the media's fault. It cant be that the Dem elite ran an incoherent loser who was out of touch with what Dem voters cared about. Lets run her again in 2028.

I will not waste my time with a cultist

DillDough@lemmy.zip · -1 pts · 8d (3 replies)

What cult am I in? I've spent my entire life advocating for human and worker rights against both parties and every organization in the US government. I've been personally blocked by countless US reps and law enforcement organizations across the country.

You were literally arguing antithetical statements and jumped to baseless name calling when you were called on it. You can't claim somebody lost to Trump over their ability to discuss policy when Trump himself is the de facto worst policy speaker in the entire history of the country, dude even routinely shits on his own policies and verbatim states that whoever signed them in is the worst president ever...while taking credit for the things democrats passed after he shit talked it while it was up for debate.

Are you sure you aren't in a cult? Right wing authoritarianism is just as popular in Europe as it is in the US, how are you making sure you aren't being misled into believing contradictory things...like the statements you made here.

Trump's policies were all unpopular and people hated his ideas.

He won because media told people the Democrat's good ideas were his and that only be could be trusted to implement them, and too many believed it. He copied promises from Kamala outright and media only reported on his statements and not hers.

People LIKED the Democrat campaign plan. They were simply convinced to not trust it by propaganda.

schnapsman@feddit.org · 6 pts · 8d

Sure, but justified or not, the personality behind the policies is very important to most ppl. She was the least popular candidate in the primaries. She ran a presumptuous half-assed victory lap campaign. She ran to the center and proposed nothing new or inspiring. She avoided difficult topics and fumbled when confronted with them. So, her policies were mostly fine (except of course that big one), but people maybe don't want a non-leader type former cop to spearhead those policies.

Natanael@infosec.pub · -1 pts · 7d (1 reply)

Archangel1313@lemmy.ca · 2 pts · 7d (1 reply)

Most progressives see her as something of an opportunistic, establishment puppet. She was chosen to be Biden's VP, in order to pander to the black / Latino vote, and specifically because she lacked the moral core to oppose the establishment in any meaningful way.

Her presence may be viewed as the DNC either trying to co-opt El-Sayed's campaign and steer it towards the establishment's goals...or that it was all astroturf from the beginning, and shouldn't be trusted.

anarchy79@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 6d

Huh, good answer. I get what you're saying.

kreskin@lemmy.world · 21 pts · 8d (57 replies)

florencia@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 11 pts · 8d (1 reply)

From NBC:

Roxie Richner, a spokesperson for El-Sayed, told NBC News on Wednesday that “Abdul is thrilled to welcome Vice President Harris to Michigan for a conversation about improving Black maternal health and bringing down healthcare costs.”

Richner added: “He looks forward to hearing directly from Black women and healthcare providers and discussing how he’ll continue that work in the Senate. There’s no better choice for Michiganders than Abdul when it comes to making healthcare more affordable, and he’s grateful Vice President Harris will join him in spreading that message.”

hoppeduponcoffee@lemmy.zip · 9 pts · 8d

I share your sentiment to a degree. However, Kamala remains popular with centrist liberal voters who are still sore she lost the 2024 election. Having her endorse El-Sayed on his campaign trail could entice voters who see him as “extreme.”

At this point, he needs every last vote he can conjure. It’s politics in 2026. Such is the state of a corrupt, two-party, winner-take-all electoral system.

Or as you put it, "don't agree with ever single word I far exactly like I say it".

What you're doing is genocide denial. You're minimizing and flat out denying her involvement in the genocide, and trying to twist reality and convince others that our issue with her is over disagreement on words.

AdolfSchmitler@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 6d (2 replies)

She's a statesman with enormous experience and political clout (at least had) with a solid ideological foundation in and conviction of democracy and rule of law. These days that goes a long fucking way. What they did to her is probably only eclipsed to what they did to Monica Lewinsky. They just demonize people relentlessly until they become a persona non grata in anyone's mind- just look at everyone even in this thread shitting on her, they've been swept up in the same propaganda dragnet as the right, they start repeating right wing propaganda talking points yet would be incapable of mentioning a single thing she did politically or any of her propositions.

Is she flawless? Lol no.

Is "flawless" something we expect from leadership? Lol YES!

And if they aren't flawless, then they are just as bad as the bottom of the barrel, therefore it makes sense to vote for the bottom of the barrel instead.

The two state solution is what we currently have. The only path forward with apartheid like we have in Israel is to follow the model of South Africa and democratically form a single state that represents all.

About the same as it was doing when Biden was president. You do understand both sides of our last election were on the same side of this issue right? And how our government lied about it for almost a year before Trump took over?

Why are you so excited about Palestinians being genocides? Y'all libs always talk about this with such glee.

A one state solution is the only path forward where Israel is dismantled a new state it formed that democratically represents all people. Anything short of that will just reproduce the conditions we have today (that you seem to like)

NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io · 1 pts · 8d

She lost Michigan left, not the moderates.

I wouldn't be so sure. Self-proclaimed moderates in America tend to want stuff like universal healthcare, better public transport and taxes on the rich, and the median American voter hates Israel now. My impression is that actual moderates (the people that would be legitimately represented by Hakeem Jeffries or Kamala Harris) are very fortunately no longer a significant voter bloc, if they ever were. I won't deny the potential benefits of name recognition, but on the other hand we can't forget about all the Michigan Arabs who rightly hate Harris's guts.

Maggoty@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 8d

I definitely get what she's trying to do, she's trying to make a statement of unity within the party that we have a common enemy in MAGA. It's more so most of the people who were heavily pro-palestine (like Professor Dave just as an example) stayed home rather than voting against Trump. Which to me is dumb because Trump was literally pro-genocide on Gaza while Harris was just anti-Hamas. Not saying it singlehandedly made the Democrats lose, but it certainly played a factor.

It also just offends me personally because it tells me that they never actually cared about trans people or health care or the working class or anything really if they're willing to sit out and allow Trump to win just to have moral infallibility and thus I guess feel superior. The genocide wasn't stopped by not voting, but I doubt even that matters to them.

Now I'll admit, I might just be a little perception poisoned on the far left's position broadly because I used to argue with tankies on here constantly and they kept dogpiling me for saying we should've voted for Harris. Sorry for getting a little emotional with this towards the end, but it's just so frustrating

I think for a lot of them it has little to do with Palestine or any of the other issues but rather to belong to a group cosplaying barricade revolutionaries while doing absolutely nothing meaningful.

A lot of these political grassroot movements have been co-opted by childish narcissists who do way more to hurt the cause than they ever do to further it.

They're literally there for the performative bullshit, the purity testing, the virtue signalling, the gatekeeping, the outrage and the accusations. They're not there for the politics, they are there for the drama and feeling of self importance. They pretend to have radical principles so that they can point at anyone and say- "as long as you are not as extreme in your views as I am in mine, you are in favor of the things I am against".

Nah. I read this as desperately trying to latch on to someone that's actually popular hoping some of it will bounce off onto her. Fuck her.

Holocaust Harris”

OO, I like that, going to use it, thanks.

NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io · 2 pts · 8d (3 replies)

However, I don't think she was right person to do this since most people on the very far left decided they'd rather have Trump as president than to vote for "Holocaust Harris",

The very far left and, you know, all those Arabs whose families she wanted to murder.

pirate2377@lemmy.zip · 2 pts · 8d (2 replies)

Damn, I can't believe the right never brought that up. It should have been national news when she advocated to personally murder arabs herself

Nonconfrontational@lemmy.ml · 2 pts · 6d

Not really, this is America we're talking about. When was the last year your country wasn't murdering Arabs?

antifa_ceo@lemmy.ml · 2 pts · 8d

Well she is pro Israel so

Proving the Horseshoe theory then, great.

Please no. I'm convinced if Biden ran he would have won, but America just isn't ready for a black woman to be president, and as terrible as it sounds, trying to force Hillary and then Kamala is why Trump won. Period. Full stop.

benjirenji@slrpnk.net · 9 pts · 7d

How about actually running a popular candidate? Hillary had all the baggage of the past when voters looked for a change and Kamala barely had 3 months to campaign. I don't think enough Americans care about what's dangling between a candidate's legs as long as they are actually popular across the field.

Saledovil@sh.itjust.works · 7 pts · 7d

Biden would have lost all 50 states.

Kamala v Trump 2028 confirmed?

cattywampas@lemmy.world · 27 pts · 8d (3 replies)

Kamala has zero chance of winning the 2028 primary.

Linktank@lemmy.today · 4 pts · 8d

No wonder the controlled opposition is looking to run her!

Objection@lemmy.ml · 2 pts · 8d

Assuming the let us have a primary and it's not rigged.

NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io · 2 pts · 8d

Hey, they could always ratfuck 2028 too. Worked twice already.

tidderuuf@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 8d

There's no way is heart would last that long... Right?!??!

kreskin@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 7d

oh she's definitely running.

Microtonal_Banana@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 6d

Lets see her win a primary in California first.
