What’s one thing you wish more people noticed in everyday life?

We’re standing on an unthinkably thin layer of viable grime coating a very small rock. We should all be constantly aware of how delicate this situation is and act accordingly, both in terms of how we treat each other and the shit we do to the rock.

Driving like a maniac saves you a negligible amount of time but puts others in disproportionate danger.

That while they judge themselves by their best intentions, they invariably, and subconsciously judge others by their actions.

Once you realise most people are just trying to get through the day and most people aren't trying to make things worse for others, it's easier to forgive perceived slights, and that will make your own day better, and make you less likely to subconsciously slight someone else.

The rise of fascism.

Cars.

They are everywhere, they take for themselves the majority of public space in urban areas and they are incredibly dangerous, noisy, expensive. Yet majority of people barely notice them

I wish people would realize how their bad behavior, how their greed, hurts other people.

That they're never going to watch the video they're taking on their cell phone at a sporting event, or concert, or political event, or whatever.

And just live in the moment instead.

That they are blocking the door on public transport.

I wish people noticed how much fucking space they take up.

All the fucking time I go to the shops or something and some oblivious dolt just stops walking, usually right in the middle of a fucking choke point.

I wish people would treat walking like they should treat driving; look around. Don't stop in the middle of a highway. If you need to stop, pull over. If you're walking slow, use the slow lane.

We need pedestrian traffic rules because this shit evidently is not intuitive to a lot of people.

People rarely notice anything above their eyeline. It has to be directly in front of them or slightly down to be noticed.

Look UP people! There's a whole other world there.

The high pitch noises from so many electronic items. Just as an example HP printers have a high pitch whine from their power supplies. I literally can’t be in the room with them. If more noticed less people would buy the garbage.

I'm Belgian. I'm working with and for muncipalities and the regional government for years now and people trend to think public servants are lady and stubborn.

I see a lot of enthousiastic, driven, hard working public servants everyday. They often are mangled between political pressure and civilian pressure. There are rotten apples in the basket, for sure, but tge vast majority of public servants work hard en mean well.

Notice your default behaviors and take a moment to consider whether they serve you. They might, they might not. You may want to change them, you may not. Just be intentional about how you conduct yourself.

That the collapse is incoming and ignoring that fact is exacerbating it.

That no man is an island. And even the things you do "staying in your lane" affect those around you.

I'd also love for people to remember that breaking social contracts used to lead to duels and that's why you saw a dip in violence and breeches. But we stopped doing that and now violence and breeches of social contracts are happening more often.

And lastly I'd like all the people complaining about the biosphere in this thread to remember that they're Debbie Downers and that's why no one invites them to parties.

I'm joking about the last one. I agree with them, I just think the solution is getting off this planet as quickly as possible Oregon Trail style.

How they are being manipulated by so many things; advertisements, the media, influencers, social media posts, the entertainment industry. The biases aren't all bad but they definitely exist.

The fascist takeover. Anyone who isn't resisting it in some way is complacent.

That making nature convenient for us (managed forests, etc.) is not the same as being nature friendly.

That when you turn off social media and stop getting your morning dose of "what should I worry about today" life becomes a lot easier.

That they are not alone. Everyone is having a day just like themselves so being considerate and respectful goes a long way to making it work for everyone.

There are also people that are not like you so you might not understand the behavior of everyone but it could be that that person is struggling the same way you are (when you are) but it might look different.

That time is passing and we will all die. Are you living in earnest?

Nature. Look around you. Like, seriously, stop what you are doing, and look around you for three, full minutes. You'll start to notice new things. Bugs, plants, views, animals. There's a lot going on, even if you just look at a 1x1 in square of grass up close. It's pretty cool.

Even in human areas, just spending an hour in a space while not being on your phone is kinda cool. I'd be doing something like weeding a local bike path and start to notice way more people than I ever thought used it. It's mostly asphalt, but even here, the plants are interesting, and you start to meet people in your community that do the same work.

The beautiy in mondane things. Not having your mind be occupied by something is so beautiful.

That society can function with us working less than 16hrs/week and we could have a UBI and time to enjoy being alive instead of apathetically accepting global feudalism

That the way the daily lives of themselves and everyone in their society has so many negative effects. I get they don't have a choice. You work were you can and live where you can afford and manage what you can based on the resources you have available. I just wish the average person would hate it more and try to disconnect from it as much as they can and realize its bad in all the ways they don't if they can't. Drive less, eat less meat, use less proprietary things, eat less processed foods, consume less, simplify, enjoy simple things.
