Glad I can say "rest in piss Charlie" as much as I want on here. Bluesky sounds exactly as braindead as Xitter, except less obstinately so.

wintervoid@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 48 pts · 341d (21 replies)

Yeah. If you want an alternative I'd recommend mastodon because from what I've seen at least it's not as brain dead

HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 340d

dude i'm not braindead i'm just high

AntiBullyRanger@ani.social · -19 pts · 340d (19 replies)

But still just as fascist.

merc@sh.itjust.works · 48 pts · 340d (14 replies)

Fascists can set up an instance, sure. The difference is that that's one instance among many. The worst fediverse instances aren't federated with anybody because the entire instance has been blocked by virtually every other instance.

IMO that's much better than even the best monolithic social media site. A monolithic site has to have a set of rules that applies for everyone. You can add your own additional blocks, but you can't unblock things that the monolithic site has decided should be blocked.

AntiBullyRanger@ani.social · 3 pts · 340d (4 replies)

How many fascist threadiverse instances are there?

oftheair@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 12 pts · 340d (2 replies)

Depends on if you count tankies as fascist or not.

AntiBullyRanger@ani.social · 4 pts · 340d

I count those as Maoists, which if we go by evidence, the ballpark isn't too far off.

acockworkorange@mander.xyz · 2 pts · 340d

If it quacks like a duck...

merc@sh.itjust.works · 5 pts · 340d

No clue, the instances I use block a lot of them so I never really see their shit.

hector@lemmy.today · 2 pts · 340d (8 replies)

Those monolith sites have government hooks in them to manipulate those rules so they are not applied equally.

It was bad before 2020, now it is a joke. They find other things to violate you on for israel comments for instance. Things not against the rules or a real stretch to claim so.

merc@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 340d (7 replies)

"Government hooks"? Please.

This is just trying to play nice with investors and/or advertisers.

hector@lemmy.today · 4 pts · 340d (5 replies)

I said government for brevity, the super rich and corporations control the government and they both have their hooks in. The lawmakers have been threatening to jam them up in multiple ways if they do not cave to pressure which they have. Such as agency sending lists of accounts to ban for unrelated reasons. Or allowing some allies of the politicians too get a pass on moderation while taking a hard line against other voices online. Or allowing connected influence operations free reign.

merc@sh.itjust.works · -2 pts · 340d

Whether it's for brevity or directly, you're wrong.

Korhaka@sopuli.xyz · 2 pts · 340d

What's the difference?

halcyoncmdr@lemmy.world · 14 pts · 340d (1 reply)

By that logic every website on the Internet is fascist because someone set up a website about fascism somewhere.

Mastodon is still federated and while there are going to be some instances run by bad actors the majority of them aren't as bad. From what I understand at least mastodon.social is defederated with the bad instances anyway so we can't interact with each other but I may be wrong I'm kind of new to this type of platform

AntiBullyRanger@ani.social · 2 pts · 340d

The question my opponents seem to miss is the fact that in order for fascism to die, these instances need to be Kirked, not ignored. Making it unfeasible for truthsocial, poast, and the pedoverse to exist is the point my downvoters seem to disconnect.

grrgyle@slrpnk.net · 7 pts · 340d

People named Charlie having a really rough week right now lol

Well, I was on the fence before but I guess I'm leaving Bluesky too.

jaybone@lemmy.zip · 21 pts · 340d (1 reply)

It was only a matter of time for bluesky to show their true colors. I thought it would be later, rather than sooner. Quite the little hill for them to die on.

dejected_warp_core@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 340d

I was wondering if Bluesky's corporate ownership was going to be a problem eventually.

BigBenis@lemmy.world · 27 pts · 340d (1 reply)

Why do these corporate yahoos suddenly care so much about what people are saying on the internet? Is it because they could see themselves in... Ohhh

Korhaka@sopuli.xyz · 8 pts · 340d

They don't want people to realise that a large chunk of society would be happy to see them dead. Whose side are you on?

Is “Image description:” the correct way to start alt text here? I’ve been unclear on the right or preferred way to do this.

HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 340d

if you got an alt text, you're doing it right. just don't put an alternate joke in the hovertext it's confusing for screen readers

Meanwhile, this guy openly admitted to joining Bluesky explicitly to screenshot people and report them to Laura Loomer, and was throwing out slurs in the comments to provoke them, but it took at least three reports and over 24 hours for the moderation team to do anything about it.

(Also, warning, slurs, obviously)

W3dd1e@lemmy.zip · 5 pts · 339d

I got one from one of these accounts too. Similar naming scheme. I reported several posts but idk if it was taken down. Blocked it after reporting.
