So I love the taste of energy drinks, but I hate the caffeine since it doesn't let me sleep when i drink it with dinner is there a drink that can accomplish my goal or is the taste in the caffeine?
EDIT: I figured it out so i you add water saffron rock candy and sugar add some sparkling water with lemon flavor then mix I haven't figured out how to make it as sour tho, but it's close in my opinion if you get the amounts right, but energy drinks have that artificial flavor so I can never make it truly the same

Carry on.

So many people's bodies and wallets would benefit from 6 weeks of only drinking water.
The cravings will go away, drinks you used to love will suddenly be too sweet. You will simply feel better and wonder why you were so obsessed to begin with. Then you'll buy 18 different kinds of tea to drink just 2 regularly. No idea why the last step happens, but it does.
Jimmycrackcrack@lemmy.ml · 2 pts · 326d
I wish that would happen for me. Maybe the length of time one needs to abstain needs to be longer or something. I try to avoid drinking sweet drinks because of how easily it makes you fat but I don't enjoy them any less and my favourites never feel too sweet and often I find myself really craving a very sweet drink and it's only by not having it in the house that I manage to avoid it.
I guess I never really went full cold turkey, I figure I should be able to moderate the habit and only consume it on occasion which I think ends up being something like 1 to 2 glasses every 1.5 weeks on average.

NileRed who makes entertaining chemistry videos of making random things, has a video on making a caffeine free Red Bull:

Its pretty much a guide on making it yourself if you're daring and have the resources. And don't forget to follow that up with his video on how he turned latex gloves into hot sauce .

if you want more sourness maybe try adding some powdered citric acid or malic acid, whatever you can find at a grocery store. It'll be in the spice aisle.
artiman@piefed.social · 4 pts · 328d
ty i will try
Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works · 6 pts · 328d
In my grocery store it's called Sour Salt (there's no salt in it) and it's in the Jewish section near the jars of borscht.
But another way would be to squeeze a slice of lemon into it.
ChonkyOwlbear@lemmy.world · 16 pts · 328d
Celsius has a line for caffeine free options

Watch out for the random cans with alcohol though 😉

What are you eating for dinner that the taste of energy drink goes well with it?
echindod@programming.dev · 15 pts · 327d
Doritos. And a gas station hotdog.
some_kind_of_guy@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 327d
That hotdog's looking pretty rough by dinner time

The energy drink really brings out all of those flavor notes!
Atomic@sh.itjust.works · 11 pts · 328d
I've seen concentrate with energy drink flavour. I tried it. Tastes like generic energy drink.
Just mix it with water.
slakje@piefed.social · 10 pts · 328d
Lasherz12@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 327d
Be careful chasing the acidity of energy drinks. Full throttle is around 2 pH, not so good for your teeth or stomach health.
Kolanaki@pawb.social · 7 pts · 327d
Green apple soda
Grapefruit soda (IE Squirt)
Fruit juices (Pineapple is great)
If you mean the very basic "original" flavor that comes from gurana berry I don't think you'll find a non-caffeinated alternative, since the berry itself has caffeine.
bitwolf@sh.itjust.works · 6 pts · 327d
Have you tried Guaraná?
I find it tastes a bit like a mix of red bull and mountain dew. It's a soda, but very close to energy drink taste
passenger@sopuli.xyz · 4 pts · 327d
It has caffeine though, and a mix of other compounds that have a similar effect as an energy drink, so it would not help with sleeping.
panda_abyss@lemmy.ca · 6 pts · 328d
Maybe just stir some pixie sticks into a half cup of water

I find that Pommac has remotely similar taste without actually being an energy drink.
dirkgentle@lemmy.ca · 3 pts · 328d
I am not sure which energy drink you are after, but Guaraná soda tastest similar to some.
rowinxavier@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 328d
Add citric acid powder to make it sour. It is in the ingredients of energy drinks as an acidity regulator but also controls sourness. Be aware it is strong, so only add a little at a time, and make sure it is fully mixed before fizzing it.
9point6@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 328d
I bet you if it exists, the Scottish soft drink company Barr probably makes it
It's been absolutely years since I had either, but I reckon Tizer is probably not too far off that red bull taste. I might be completely misremembering though

caffeine free coke seems like the easiest solution.
However, what I'd recommend is taking a handful of ice cubes, placing them in a glass of plain water, and then drinking that instead.
normalexit@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 327d
Caffeine is bitter. That's why they mask it with sweet flavors in soda. Just drink it during the day as a treat occasionally and have water (or something else) with dinner?
SunSunFuego@lemmy.ml · 2 pts · 328d
there's a variant of golden eagle, it's stuff you find in balkan stores but my local one only stocked the decaffeinated one once (it's horrendous)

Maybe try aspartame instead of sugar?
devolution@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 324d
I thought the caffine is what makes energy drinks taste the way they do.
real_squids@sopuli.xyz · 1 pts · 328d
Xixo make some like that
edit: I remember their tutti fruity ones, got that generic energy drink flavor
vortexal@sopuli.xyz · 1 pts · 327d
I'm not sure if it's what you are looking for but I know that some energy drink manufactures offer their flavors in the form of hydration drinks.
SillyDude@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 328d
Try 4loko gold. Tastes like a energy drink but they were forced to take out the caffeine.
SharkAttak@kbin.melroy.org · 1 pts · 328d
Caffeine, like many other things, is harmful only in excessive amounts. If you drink some just for the flavour it shouldn't be a problem.
artiman@piefed.social · 8 pts · 328d
Problem is I can't sleep at night if I drink it at dinner, but I usually eat the good meals at night
blarghly@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 328d
Have you tried drinking water with your dinner instead?
artiman@piefed.social · 2 pts · 328d
I like it when not eating, but it makes my food taste pretty weird when I drink it with food
JohnnyCanuck@lemmy.ca · 4 pts · 328d
Sorry, water makes your food taste weird, but energy drinks are just fine?
artiman@piefed.social · 2 pts · 328d
Yeah, it just makes it wet because it has no flavor, there are other drinks that I like other than energy drinks, but I would like to know how the taste of energy drinks can be accomplished this is no stupid questions
JohnnyCanuck@lemmy.ca · 6 pts · 328d
Yes but when you ask a question in no stupid questions you are prompting a discussion. And now we're discussing how water changes the taste of food for you, and you're willing to drink sugary, unhealthy drinks with your dinner instead.
It sounds like you're extremely addicted to sugar.
blarghly@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 328d
Sometimes the best answer to a question is questioning the premise.
SharkAttak@kbin.melroy.org · 1 pts · 326d
Try not drinking with your mouth full, I usually do it to clean the mouth. Anyway, for me at least, RedBull et al. taste like cherry-similar, some off brands had "all fruits" listed as flavour additive.
Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de · 1 pts · 328d
i mean the whole point of energy drinks is that they have a stupid amount of caffeine

Caffeine can be annoying but not too harmful. It's the B vitamins you need to be careful around.
I also just want a energy-drink flavoured pop. But mostly I want the old monster assault back so bad...
sem@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 2 pts · 327d
Why b vitamins?
We used to tweak on those at the like shop. Zip Fizz.
ImgurRefugee114@reddthat.com · 2 pts · 327d
B6 toxicity can affect cardiovascular health, and a single energy drink can have over 6x the recommended daily dosage.
some_kind_of_guy@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 327d
Can't really go wrong with b vitamins though... being water soluble you'll piss out whatever your body won't absorb, which is the reason for that wonderful neon yellow color.
ImgurRefugee114@reddthat.com · 1 pts · 327d
There's been a rise in cases of B6 toxicity (PDF) resulting in a growing demand for regulation. I also wouldn't be surprised if most of the cardiac issues related to overconsumption of energy drinks was attributable to B6 as well but I'm too lazy to go searching for papers rn.
Lumidaub@feddit.org · -4 pts · 328d
What does "energy drink" taste like? It's just lemonade (or soda or pop or soft drink or whatever you Anglophones can't agree on to call it) and the taste depends on what's in it.
wetbeardhairs@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 21 pts · 328d
It's a distinctively unnatural taste that makes me think of the inside of chemistry glassware.
Tuuktuuk@piefed.ee · 8 pts · 328d
Yes, and the taste of what's in most energy drinks is what's being sought for here.
Lumidaub@feddit.org · 2 pts · 328d
They all taste different though? The thing they have in common is caffeine.
Tuuktuuk@piefed.ee · 11 pts · 328d
Some "fancy" ones do taste different, but the basic ones do share a clearly distinguishable common taste.
artiman@piefed.social · 4 pts · 328d
It's a unique taste that's why I am asking
Bbbbbbbbbbb@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 328d
I think the classic flavor profile is sour apple, could you just juice some of those and throw them into car battery acid for the same taste?
sem@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 1 pts · 327d
Sour apple tastes different.
Redbull and monster and full throttle in the old days all had a similar taste.
prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 3 pts · 328d
Like cough syrup. I can't imagine wanting that taste.
artiman@piefed.social · 1 pts · 328d
