I have been paying attention for decades now and I'm not really surprised.
I went to an ivy league school... and lots and lots of my cohort were delusional morons who believed their own farts had magical powers. and the admin and professors were happy to tell the they totally were. and I would say their farts stunk and they would just become angry and harass the shit out of me.
Such a bullshit. No one (pregnant or not and especially an associate professor) would "gobble" bottle of Tylenol even before their claim. Overdosing on it is not pretty.
Also whenever there's talk about Tylenol it reminds me of this:
I could see myself filling a bottle of tylenol with tic tacs and trying to sleight of hand them into my mouth in a fistfull in such a way it looked like I ate a bunch, tbf. Y'know for the lolz.
I would really think that after all these memes and making fun of Tylenol and pregnancy someone would do a TikTok of it, just because its trendy to oppose everything from them.
There are too many idiots (okay the largest portion of them is on the MAGA side), but still...
To be fair, there is evidence of harm by fluoride. It's not as significant as they make it out to be though, and it potentially helps a lot of people. That said, I do somewhat agree with the stance. The US is (currently) a developed nation that has plenty of access to toothpaste with fluoride. Fluoride deficiency is not really a concern here. With that, and the harm it causes, I'm slightly in favor of its removal from water. However, it needs to be done in a way to prevent fear mongering and taking things beyond this.
If the video exists, I'm sure she made it when she already needed Tylenol (hello, eight months pregnant is hell on your body), and took the recommended dosage.
Acetaminophen has a rather steep curve where it gets toxic. A standard tablet is 500mg. I sometimes take a double at 1000mg, yet the daily recommended max dose is 4000, only four times that, after which toxic effects start coming. That's 8 tablets
This woman, if she exists at all, was likely "gobbling" a single tablet, which is pretty much harmless
I wonder if the composition of Tylenol is different than Dafalgan, which is the equivalent "known" brand here. 500mg is normal, 1g is strong. There's a kids version though, would have to check what the box says.
Dosage levels probably vary widely between different places. Composition will change but the important part is the active/medical ingredients, the other stuff is just usually to prevent tampering or to make easier to take. Coated/non coated. Crush resistance or interference, possibly agents to reduce ingestion discomfort etc. how many mg of the active ingredient (acetaminophen is paracetamol) is usually the difference. Cutting pills in half is often just as good as taking a lower dose pill. Just depends on who needs it.
Think the general guideline is not to exceed 4000mg per 24h period ages 12+ though always read the medications guide lines
I completely agree if we're talking about some bros at a kegger, but if it might instead possibly be the United States Secretary of Health and Human Services reporting to the President of the United States and the rest of his Cabinet during a Cabinet meeting, then no. In that case the United States Secretary of Health and Human Services should be able to communicate health related matters better than a drunken frat bro.
When they say "Trump derangement syndrome" it always makes me think of the deranged shit that Trump does. Like trying to start wars with Iran and Venezuela and then practically demanding the Nobel peace prize.
It's a legit thing though. I live in Boston. There are people here you meet occasionally who literally... talk about nothing about how awful Trump is and are totally obsessed with him to the point of alienating everyone around them. Who agonize over every tweet he makes everyday as if it is the end of the world.
It's sort of like how Howard Stern used to get better ratings from people who hated him more than those that loved him. Some folks entire identity is now hating Trump. And half of what they hate is just bullshit, lies and imagination running wild and has little to do with reality.
Too many folks are totally detached from reality really. Living in social media bubbles convincing themselves of their persecution from imaginary enemies. A constant stream of nonsense that is breaking their brains and they bring it IRL and refuse to social with you if you don't reinforce their preexisting beliefs.
There is a growing contingent of folks who think the world should conform to the reality in their head. Not that they should confirm to the reality outside of it. It's scary AF. And these folks often think violence is totally justified to make other people conform to the nonsense in their heads.
I remind myself all the time that as mad as I may feel, as righteous and justified and endangered, that violence on the level that might change things will fuck up my life and the life of everyone I care about and a whole lot of people I don't know but don't deserve it. Are the Cubans better off after the cuban revolution? Maybe, hard to say. Were the Soviets better off after the Russian revolution? Again, hard to say. The French are better off today than they were before the French revolution, but they also got Napoleon right after that.
Our species broadly is far more concerned with narratives and stories than reality. This is how our brains work on a very fundamental level.
Yep. Thanks for mentioning this. It's really the root of it. The existing social structure is reinforcing/escalating our worst psychological biases. The opposite of what many of us think it should be doing. At least for me... going to school was all about deprogramming all the emotional bias bullshit that my parents and home-town idiots I grew up with believed. The internet also helped a lot with that. It was about getting outside of the bubble.
But it seem around 10 years ago this all shifted. and now education and internet is all about reinforcing those biases. I meet so many 'well-educated' people that have such provincial/delusional beliefs about the world now... it's terrifying. And this is folks on my 'own side' of leftism/liberalism... I can only imagine it's equal/worse among the right. A huge uptick in delusional and magical thinking, and people using their education to justify their crazy thoughts... instead of using their education to dismantle/prevent their crazy thoughts.
I'm not so sure good policy is the way to do it... but I do know from political experience that good policy is something EVERYONE hates. Precisely because it doesn't benefit them exclusively.
History shows us people only learn to do the right thing after things have gone horrible horrible wrong.
we had a worldwide depression and war that uttered in 80 years of peace. we will have another one before things can truly improve. the current generations are all far too removed from the consequences of their actions.
After the liberation of the concentration camps in 1945, all the people who had been put there for being gay, just got moved to other camps and prisons, since homosexuality was also illegal under the liberators' laws as well.
In 2017 EU court was like "Finland that's not legal, and is breaking human rights."
2023 they finally fix it.
COPENHAGEN, March 3 (Reuters) - Finland will allow transgender people to change their legal gender at their own request and without undergoing sterilisation, new legislation signed by the Finnish President confirmed on Friday.
The European Court of Human Rights ruled in 2017
, opens new tab that requiring sterilisation in order for individuals to change the sex on their birth certificate is a violation of human rights.
never said it was right. america still does this though. being transgender is considered a mental illness when it's just a different brain development. it has nothing to do with reality. tribal peoples had lgbt people of all kinds pre colonization and it was considered normal. They were given the ultimate form of acceptance- roles in their society. They were basically expected to adopt orphans of the tribe while in a gay marriage
I know Trumpism is real threat to trans people ans trans healthcare and rights have taken massive hits, but you're not actually forced to undergo sterilisation as a trans person, are you?
I genuinely wonder, do they just make up this obviously false BS to tell him to protect themselves? Or are they all on the same page with the BS to gaslight MAGA people?
In 30 years this will be a very well-studied period of human history and behavior.
being crazy is not a political affiliation. there are crazy people on both sides doing crazy shit to 'own' the other side.
in 2009 I knew a radfem in grad school who would go around screaming at everyone to stop raping people. she was a very damaged person who projecting her abusive past onto everyone around her. and going to grad school writing papers about using artificial wombs to end women's oppression by men. she also was married to a guy who was a drug user and physically abusive to her...
The worst part is many parts of the world can't even laugh anymore because the same playbook is running through their countries. I'm tired and we are so cooked.
it's not lead poisoning. it's people going insane because they live in internet/social media bubbles that lead to constant escalation reinforcement. you can see that nonsense here on lemmy in this very thread where people reinforce a false narrative and then escalate it with more rumor and nonsense or cherry-pick facts from history/reality to reinforce the delusional narrative that the other side is 'evil' and refuse to acknowledge your own side is also evil.
People are so wrapped up in their political ideas and identities they are literally cutting off their noses and doing other deranged things all to 'own' the other side.
And they use this to justify violence against others and themselves.
Ah, okay. I saw some earlier speculation that RFK Jr. didn't actually say this and thought yours was in the same vein. Crazy videos of people saying things we wouldn't believe 10 years ago seems to be the norm these days...
it's known to significantly increase liver-cancer.
Mom used it instead of the asperine/advil type of chemicals, for that, & died of TWO kinds of liver-cancer, simultaneously ( which is something that doesn't happen, in normal nature ).
I'm absolutely against outlawing it, because people who're allergic to the asperine/advil family of medication HAVE to have an alternative, but .. holy moley, is that stuff aweful.
RFK's worse, though: weaponized incompetence force-dismantling what objectivity there had been, from medicine..
Here's nearly 700 PAGES of listings of medical-science papers on the subject, if you want to dig into it..
I mean if someone is doing that it actually would be the rare example where I could say someone is trump deranged. All medication prescription and non prescription is about weighing the potential risks vs benefits. Taking normal dosage of Tylenol is mostly harmless, and the reason a blanket statement of "it's no harm, just don't take tylenol" is a horrific mischaracterization even IF the studies cited showed a clear and blatent causal relationship between Tylenol and potential issues, because it's simply weighing risk of treatement vs nontreatment. IE fever and pain are also things likely to negatively impact a pregnancy as well as the health of a mother.
Taking any medicine while pregnant, when you do not currently have any condition it is treating is just stupid risk, and if you are taking more than the recomended dosage just to flex on an idiot, you are becoming an idiot yourself.
"if someone is doing that" but they aren't bud. not a single person ever. why are you bending over backwards to make a nazi big fat lie seem reasonable?
if someone were jamming a big red hot metal rod covered in ants and jelly into their eyes over and over screaming they hate trump so much it made them do this, that would be bad, but the thing is: fucking no one is doing anything like that so what the fuck am i talking about?
Yeah that is why I made sure the qualifiers were there, obviously I don't spend time on tiktok, and it looks like most people finding what's most likely the discussed video was just taking 2 pills, and hell for all we can know from that maybe she actually did have a headache or something wrong.
I'm fully aware the current administration is nothing but liars misrepresenting everything they have ever come accross.
Let's be clear here: this didn't happen. If you actually gobbled handfuls of acetaminophen after a few days you'd experience excruciating stomach pain, turn yellow, and finally die of DIC with blood coming out of your orifices.

it's not lead poisoning. it's people going insane because they live in internet/social media bubbles that lead to constant escalation reinforcement. you can see that nonsense here on lemmy in this very thread where people reinforce a false narrative and then escalate it with more rumor and nonsense or cherry-pick facts from history/reality to reinforce the delusional narrative that the other side is 'evil' and refuse to acknowledge your own side is also evil.
TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 334d
People are so wrapped up in their political ideas and identities they are literally cutting off their noses and doing other deranged things all to 'own' the other side.
And they use this to justify violence against others and themselves.

That is called propaganda. Half of Twitter is bots and they post this nonsense to try to support their authoritarian regime.

I would be equally unsurprised if RFK Jr. also said it, though.
Mk23simp@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 1 pts · 335d
I meant the TikTok video that someone showed to RFK.
GreyEyedGhost@lemmy.ca · 1 pts · 335d
Ah, okay. I saw some earlier speculation that RFK Jr. didn't actually say this and thought yours was in the same vein. Crazy videos of people saying things we wouldn't believe 10 years ago seems to be the norm these days...

Tylenol is aweful, to some degree a poison:
it's known to significantly increase liver-cancer.
Many won't be on-topic, but dig & you will find.

TheFogan@programming.dev · -3 pts · 336d
Yeah that is why I made sure the qualifiers were there, obviously I don't spend time on tiktok, and it looks like most people finding what's most likely the discussed video was just taking 2 pills, and hell for all we can know from that maybe she actually did have a headache or something wrong.
I'm fully aware the current administration is nothing but liars misrepresenting everything they have ever come accross.

Let's be clear here: this didn't happen. If you actually gobbled handfuls of acetaminophen after a few days you'd experience excruciating stomach pain, turn yellow, and finally die of DIC with blood coming out of your orifices.

and pregnant woman cant take nsaids, that isnt tylenol since it messes with the placenta.
