Terminator 2 is probably the easiest answer.

HazardousBanjo@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 304d

But John was just a teenager tho

RavenofDespair@lemmy.ml · 1 pts · 304d

no Terminator is the main protector in movie

Icytrees@sh.itjust.works · 45 pts · 306d (11 replies)

Mary Poppins

Alien (if you count the cat)

28 Days Later

Run Lola Run (sorta)

spittingimage@lemmy.world · 22 pts · 306d (8 replies)

Alien (if you count the cat)

I count Ripley following protocol and refusing to open the airlock for a contaminated crewmate. If Ash hadn't stepped in, the movie would have ended very differently.

Professorozone@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 306d (3 replies)

Also she defended Burke when the Marines were going to kill him for what he did. I mean she wanted him punished but... Letter of the law here. He was weak, she defended him.

rayquetzalcoatl@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 306d (2 replies)

That's in the sequel tho innit?

Professorozone@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 305d (1 reply)

Yeah, but that's ok isn't it?

rayquetzalcoatl@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 305d

Yeah I just thought you lot were talking about Alien šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Icytrees@sh.itjust.works · 7 pts · 306d

I meant that Jonesy is the weak male that Ripley physically and emotionally protects.

toynbee@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 305d (2 replies)

I don't remember much of that movie, but an Aliens / Evil Dead crossover sounds like a lot of fun.

spittingimage@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 304d (1 reply)

I think that would work best as a comic. The two movies are too different in tone to put on screen.

toynbee@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 304d

That's fair, I feel like I could support the project either way.

Changer098@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 13 pts · 306d

Jonesy is a good cat

RavenofDespair@lemmy.ml · 1 pts · 304d

yes on Mary Poppins and Run Lola Run

MoonMelon@lemmy.ml · 39 pts · 306d (5 replies)

The first Underworld from 2003 is like this, but it's painfully early 2000s. It's from that era when every action movie was ripping of The Matrix as hard as possible.

NauticalNoodle@lemmy.ml · 12 pts · 306d (2 replies)

Kate Beckinsale younger and in leather. Nice.

nirodhaavidya@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 306d (1 reply)

In the universe I'm originally from she's clad in shiny vinyl (yes, please) and her name was Beckinsdale.

Mycatiskai@lemmy.ca · 1 pts · 304d

Before she destroyed her voice so bad she is unwatchable. I will add that it could be bad editing in her last few movies that make her voice so bad.

scoobford@lemmy.zip · 10 pts · 305d

Pain? No that feeling is wonder.

It is wonderfully early 2000s.

RavenofDespair@lemmy.ml · 1 pts · 304d

this looks like the closest match thanks

Inucune@lemmy.world · 33 pts · 306d (7 replies)

First matrix. Trinity is much more skilled than Neo until the final act.

yaroto98@lemmy.world · 22 pts · 306d (5 replies)

Similarly - Edge of Tomorrow Emily Blunt is skilled and trains Tom Cruise until he's competent enough to save the world. By the end they're both extremely competent. Only reason Tom Cruise saves the world and not her is due to the timeloops. She'd already done it once.

bufalo1973@piefed.social · 4 pts · 306d (4 replies)

I wish they had followed the original story. The ending is very different.

racketlauncher831@lemmy.ml · 6 pts · 305d (3 replies)

Do you mind spoiling us please?

Hugin@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 305d (2 replies)

They both still loop in the story. Before killing the big bad they fight to the death because the loop will keep repeating unless there is only one mimic (the reset aliens and both of them) at the end of the day.

He kills her and the other mimics then the big boss. Ending the loop at the cost of her life.

balance8873@lemmy.myserv.one · 8 pts · 305d (1 reply)

I am extremely happy they didn't end the movie that way, what an unnecessarily depressing ending

toynbee@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 305d

Depressing endings are so rare in movies that I, personally, often enjoy them for the novelty if nothing else.

ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml · 1 pts · 305d

Then the same but in reverse in Matrix 4 but no one should watch that shitshow

A sadly underappreciated show:

Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles

SaraTonin@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 305d (2 replies)

Easily the best terminator property after the first two. I mean that’s not a high bar, but i mean it should be held in the same esteem as they are.

0_0j@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 303d (1 reply)

I loved it! Binged all day!

SaraTonin@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 303d

Awesome! Be prepared, though: it’ll break your heart. They had the story worked out. Was going to be 4 seasons. We got 2.

NauticalNoodle@lemmy.ml · 1 pts · 305d

Now is that a Netflix title or do I have to pay extra to watch that?

HubertManne@piefed.social · 9 pts · 306d

curiously I have seen it with tv shows lately. A good place, hellava boss, and the anime Tougen Anki has like the most extreme version of that I think possible. I feel like I have seen more but can't recall atm.

stonkage@aussie.zone · 9 pts · 306d

Long kiss goodnight

folaht@lemmy.ml · 8 pts · 305d

Any of the Sailormoon movies possibly?
Tuxedo Mask usually gets more into trouble than the heroine herself.

Although I wouldn't actually count him as weak, just weaker.
And it's an old anime series, like starting in the 1990s, with later reboots.

Are we the LLM now?

HiddenLayer555@lemmy.ml · 63 pts · 306d (4 replies)

Lemmy: Fuck you if you use AI

Also Lemmy: Fuck you for asking actual people questions I've arbitrarily decided you should have asked AI instead

solrize@lemmy.ml · 8 pts · 306d (2 replies)

I feel like lots of questions here are trying to elicit training data for AI, or else are disguised marketing surveys. Other people probably also notice and react to that.

HiddenLayer555@lemmy.ml · 21 pts · 306d (1 reply)

Possibly, but personally, I choose to enjoy discussing with humans rather than worry about my random pointless discussions being used to train AI. I refuse to be less human because of AI.

limerod@reddthat.com · 8 pts · 306d

Usually, you can tell if someone is putting some effort. The OP is not even repying to deny any of the comments. So, ĀÆ\_(惄)_/ĀÆ

etchinghillside@reddthat.com · 3 pts · 306d (7 replies)

Are they asking for us to tell a story given the post? Are they asking for what the movie is that they’re thinking of?

Reverendender@sh.itjust.works · 10 pts · 306d

From what I can tell, they aren’t even asking a question

HiddenLayer555@lemmy.ml · 9 pts · 306d (4 replies)

It's pretty clearly meant to be "Can you recommend a movie with a female lead that protects a weak adult male?" With the clarification of "physical or emotional protection"

etchinghillside@reddthat.com · -2 pts · 306d (3 replies)

I don’t know how you extrapolated ā€œrecommend a movieā€.

I would interpret it as ā€œI’m trying to remember a movieā€.

Clearly.

HiddenLayer555@lemmy.ml · 7 pts · 306d (2 replies)

People ask for media recommendations in this community all the time, it's one of the most common things to ask.

The context of "physical or emotional protection" heavily implies an open ended question to which the OP expected people to respond with media titles fitting their description. If they were trying to remember a movie they would probably describe the movie instead of clarifying the scope of their description.

Also, maybe just downvote and move on instead of snarkily saying they should have asked AI instead.

etchinghillside@reddthat.com · 1 pts · 306d (1 reply)

Wasn’t implying they should use AI.

locuester@lemmy.zip · -1 pts · 306d

The next guy should ask AI tho. Y’all bickering made me curious so I asked AI. Grok used this page as one of its sources, and summarized it. lol
