Sounds like satire to get views for his website.

24 y/o, 3 majors in CS, economics and another thing. Founder. The fact that it's a 30h flight. It has fuckery all around.

iamericandre@lemmy.world · 19 pts · 283d (4 replies)

Unless he has flying to Kansas or something the flight length is complete bullshit. Looks like its 17-19 hours for west coast airports and at most 22 hours for nyc or Boston

teft@piefed.social · 15 pts · 283d (3 replies)

If he had multiple layovers he could hit 30 hours flight time. However you’re right, a nonstop flight from NYC to Saigon is only like 20 hours or so.

Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 282d (2 replies)

Amsterdam - Rome - Perth is something like 17 hours on the long part, but the one time I did it I spent 11 hours on the Amsterdam - Rome part due to engine trouble.

and that's still not 30

teft@piefed.social · 3 pts · 282d (1 reply)

I flew NYC to Seoul a few times (also the reverse flight) and that one is about the same flight time. Never again will I willingly fly to the other side of the planet. Not without month long stops between each 3000 miles or so.

SparroHawc@lemmy.zip · 4 pts · 282d

See, your problem is not having a bunch of someone else's money to burn so that you can fly first class. Economy for 20 hours is agony thanks to the cramped seating.

Probably wouldn't be so bad if we could bring back the 747 design that had a passenger lounge in the upper level.

tomiant@piefed.social · 1 pts · 282d

Sometimes things happen. A lot of the times, actually.

Edit: way too many times

Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works · 14 pts · 282d (5 replies)

I used to work 300 hr months for years.

I had one of those, and then decided that if being self-employed was this, I'd rather live under a bridge.

Th3D3k0y@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 282d (4 replies)

I will never understand purely career oriented personalities. I work so I can enjoy not working, I want to find the most efficient work to not-work ratio and be there.

I have multiple friends that will have a one-ups competition to talk about all the overtime they worked, and I would just chime in with "If I did 14 hours of actual work this week I would be surprised"

Track_Shovel@slrpnk.net · 4 pts · 282d (1 reply)

That's me now. I'm working 37.5 a week til the cows come home. If I do work OT, I actually get it. Before, I just banked straight time, got rained on, riddled with black fly bites, and chased by bears.

Wee.

lka1988@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 282d

I'm this way now. I genuinely enjoy my job, but when I'm off the clock, I'm OFF. My work phone and work laptop both stay in the work backpack until my next shift.

Jax@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 282d

It's temporarily embarrassed millionaire syndrome. Look at Alex Hormozi. Dude is the definition of faking it til he made it and he puts out stupid posts like 'I ate Chipotle 500 times in a year because it saved me time I could be spending on making money'.

Most of the people in this 'subculture' don't realize that they are crabs in a bucket.

theneverfox@pawb.social · 1 pts · 282d

Exactly. Why would you sell more of your life for more money than you need to?

You can't buy back the time

tomiant@piefed.social · 1 pts · 282d

Why didn't you just put it in a blockchain?

musubibreakfast@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 282d (2 replies)

Jensen Huang's optimized brain is divided into sections and spread throughout his limbs like an octopus. When one part of Jensen Huang sleeps, another part works. He's not built like us.

bro is an econ major and yet never read Capital vol.1 which quite clearly lays out that any time spent working after reproducing the means of sustenance for the worker (in this case I guess it's only an hour or two, if the dude is doing anything productive at all) is just surplus value for the capitalist (in this case, the venture capitalist paying this "tech founder"), which the capitalist will never reimburse to the worker.

Satire becomes the new way to roll a business. We've reached a point where this kind of post with its obviously satirical framing could as well come from an actual founder dude who just craves for maximum attention with nothing to show for it and just trying to go from there. At this point it doesn't matter anymore if it's satirical or not as long as it gets the clicks. Clicks turn into dollars at some point.

Not to blame lil' Ky-Nam here, although looking at the short summary (3x Majors CS, Econ) this sounds like either the entire profile is satire or he is unseriously serious about this kind of hype business approach to just get attention and then go from there. But maybe it's just a dude.

What a time, we can't even discriminate the authentic crap from toxic crap anymore.

bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works · 8 pts · 281d (4 replies)

Some people do have unlimited energy. Was watching a car show where this dude fabs up amazing shit on his own, and he only sleeps 3 hours a day, says thats all he needs amd he just wakes up and goes to play in his garage.

Some people just lucky. Then there's me, not old or out of shape, can sleep 13 hours easy and not have any energy, thyroid tested fine, im literally just a low energy person most of the time. Sucks.

KuroiKaze@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 281d

I have this, I suspect it's familial natural short sleep (FNSS). I never need to sleep more than 5 ish hours generally.

ivanafterall@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 281d (1 reply)

I think you're right that people are all different and some have more energy. I also think it's possible a guy fixing up cars on YouTube could be full of shit...?

bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works · 4 pts · 281d

Oh it could be. This wasn't a random YouTube show, it was an established show with i think motortrend but yeah it could be bullshit. However I do know people who are almost like that. Same as people who drink a 30 pack of Busch on a tuesday night and go to work the next morning just fine.

I once drove from Colorado to Virginia Beach straight. Around about 28 hours straight driving. I had Adderall and percocets. I got 5 miles from my house and had to pull over because I couldnt see straight. I slept a couple hours then woke up to a cop tapping on my window, i explained i had just driven from Colorado and he told me to move on so i went the last 5 miles home.
