I miss classic 9gag memes.

Banana@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 266d (6 replies)

Oh man, 9gag is classic now? Do people not even remember funnyjunk or ebaums world anymore? (I don't expect anyone to be familiar with SomethingAwful although some will be)

I don't feel superior, just old.

TragicNotCute@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 265d

Good ol’ paid forums.

Cracks_InTheWalls@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 266d

Damn, now I'm getting a vague memory of an edgier website in this vein, but I'm stumbling on the name. Steak and Kidney Pie or something?

Edit: it was steakandcheese[dot]com, which apparently went full porn at some point looking at discussions of it. And the reason I have a memory of it was that was my exposure to goatse.

Rest of original comment: Only real memory is that there was some really dark humour shit on it, and probably wasn't the best browsing choice for 12-13 year olds when eBaum's was right there.

qualia@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 265d (2 replies)

The first big meme competition I ever got excited about was back over on ytmnd[dot]com, whose name origin was of course Sean Connery in Finding Forrester inexplicably shouting, "You're the man now, dawg!"

Banana@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 265d (1 reply)

Holy fuck ytmnd fuck I haven't read that combination of letters in YEARS

qualia@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 265d

The only one of mine I can remember was a mashup of the series Heroes and lemonparty. Highbrow stuff. It is where I learned all my editing skills tho. hehe

lime@feddit.nu · 2 pts · 265d

i remember sa, but mostly because i was on facepunch and they had a real inferiority complex despite being 10 times the size

Landless2029@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 265d

I also miss rage memes...

oneser@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 266d

I really, really don't :)

davidagain@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 265d (2 replies)

Content not viewable in your region.

Could you provide an alternate link? Or maybe use the image button to upload it to your instance so it’s out of the control of some corporation?

(Imgur deleted a bunch of content for the crime of not having a paid subscription, and they geoblock my country because the data protection commission threatened them with a fine for selling children’s browsing history and they’d rather take it out on users than simply filter the accounts they auto-tagged as children out of the data they were selling. We left reddit for a reason. Imgur is no less moneygrabbing.)

Bazell@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 265d (1 reply)

It seems that YouTube is going to be next with its wild AI.

davidagain@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 264d

I don't understand what you mean, sorry. Could you explain a bit more?

jade52@lemmy.ca · 7 pts · 265d

Guys let's go back to rage comics.

QueenHawlSera@sh.itjust.works · 7 pts · 265d (7 replies)

I got permabanned for reporting anti-theisitc and transphobic trolls for being insulting edgelords. Weirdly enough they still let you delete your account even when it's been banned.

I wish Lemmy was as active as Reddit, I miss my niche subreddits. Where am I going to go to talk about philosophy and Sonic? And seriously, where's the damn porn?

DupaCycki@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 265d (1 reply)

Weirdly enough they still let you delete your account even when it's been banned.

They don't delete your account automatically, because then they can legally keep using all of your data. Once you delete, they have a legal obligation to delete almost all of that data, as per GDPR. Not sure about outside EU, but honestly it may very well be the same or similar. Sometimes it's cheaper to implement GDPR worldwide, instead of on a per region basis.

BanMe@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 264d

There are scripts you can use to blank out all your comments and posts before deleting, but I guess they're wise to that and can auto-restore the missing content. It kills me that my thousands and thousands of comments are still feeding the site and its AI, but I can't go in and remove it. But them's the ToS I agreed to because they had neat articles.

Bazell@lemmy.zip · 2 pts · 265d (2 replies)

For 18+ content here just try typing in search bar NSFW.

Simulation6@sopuli.xyz · 1 pts · 265d (1 reply)

I just did that and 5 of the top 6 results were about reddit.

Bazell@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 265d

Sad.

EndlessNightmare@reddthat.com · 1 pts · 265d

I wish Lemmy was as active as Reddit, I miss my niche subreddits.

I deleted my account a few months ago. I don't miss any of the big subs, because that sort of content is on here too. But there are some niche topics that simply don't have enough traffic here to support good discussion.

BanaramaClamcrotch@lemmy.zip · 5 pts · 265d (5 replies)

Alas, I got perma banned for DM’ing Nazis and telling them to fuck off lol

Semester3383@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 265d (1 reply)

Nice! I got permabanned for saying that hus-brenna was the proper way to deal with neighbors flying Nazi flags.

BanaramaClamcrotch@lemmy.zip · 2 pts · 265d

Badass…

DeathByAshaman@lemmy.ml · 1 pts · 265d (2 replies)

I got all my accounts permabanned when I said Katherine Leavitt should be denied service and pepper sprayed at some restaurant.

BanaramaClamcrotch@lemmy.zip · 2 pts · 265d

Hell yea brother! Spray a hoe lol

Tollana1234567@lemmy.today · 1 pts · 265d

her cross is big enough to block the spray.

gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works · 4 pts · 265d

I got perma’d lol

403@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 265d (1 reply)

Have barely touched it since the API controversy. I can only see it declining as time goes on.

Tollana1234567@lemmy.today · 1 pts · 265d

it was pretty much 50% bots around the time API disaster occured. after the great purges this year, it just accelerated the bots having to shore up the actual user numbers. since reddit realized they were purging too much, and unwilling to unban people, they switched to background purges.

daannii@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 265d

If you are here and you haven't been perma banned from reddit. I question your integrity and values.

Burn the bridge.

Burn it all down.

Nomorereddit@lemmy.today · 3 pts · 265d (2 replies)

I'm relevant.

Jerboa is better, but still a lot of echo chambers.

iatenine@piefed.social · 2 pts · 265d (1 reply)

Guessing you meant Lemmy instead of Jerboa

I've recently hopped to Piefed since they have a keyword filter helps reduce the self-congratulatory noise of a lot of it but it's still the same people/fediverse and some of it is just everywhere on the internet

The mobile app selection also isn't as good

Agent641@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 265d

Nah we Jerboa users have a secret webring and mailing list, because we are elite.

MedicPigBabySaver@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 265d

Fuck Reddit and Fuck Spez.

marcos@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 265d

I just never logged there again since ... hum ... about a week before the Grand Reddit Exodus whenever that was.

I think I've tried once since and it didn't allow me, but I'm not sure I remember the date right, and I'm not in the mood to try again.

capuccino@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 265d

le fuck yeah

daannii@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 265d

drops mic

TRock@feddit.dk · 1 pts · 265d

Hell yeah

Agent641@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 265d (4 replies)

I'm not deleting mine, but I haven't used it since they killed RiF.

I might need a very high karma, very old Reddit account at some point in the future... For reasons...

Tollana1234567@lemmy.today · 2 pts · 265d

if your account remains to inactive too long, it will treat it like a new account so it will prone to botting/spamming filters, because alot of propaganda bots used inactive accounts.

Event_Horizon@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 265d (2 replies)

Starting an Only Fans account?

Agent641@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 265d (1 reply)

People might pay me to put my clothes back on

Event_Horizon@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 264d

Create the problem, sell the solution

myfunnyaccountname@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 265d (2 replies)

Nah. Don’t delete. Use it for 2 things. 1. Trolling. 2. Fucking with AI harvests

pipe01@programming.dev · 2 pts · 265d (1 reply)

And porn

Bazell@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 265d

I bet 50 bucks that more than 10% of Reddit user base appeared only because of it.

GreenShimada@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 265d

How should I feel when reddit starts deleting and shadowbanning my alt accounts?

LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 264d

How can we delete it if we're not even allowed to log into it anymore?

Strider@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 265d (2 replies)

I just abandoned it years ago. 'deleting' the account won't do much of anything than not displaying the account to user side anymore or move it to a internal only database. At least that's what I would do if I could and companies regularly do much worse.

Tollana1234567@lemmy.today · 1 pts · 265d (1 reply)

they keep track of deleted accounts in case people try to ban evade, plus they dont actually the remove the posts/comments you made over the history of your account.

EndlessNightmare@reddthat.com · 1 pts · 265d

they keep track of deleted accounts in case people try to ban evade

Well they did a piss poor job of it.

Bazell@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 265d

The only value of Reddit for now is as a huge archive of data useful in one or another way. And since to browse most of it you don't even need an account, there is no need to bother yourself with creating one.

MidsizedSedan@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 265d

I remember deleting my account around when they introduced their recap things. I don't want to know where I posted/commented/viewed a lot. And I DEFINITELY don't want the app tracking all that.

DylanMc6@lemmy.ml · 1 pts · 265d

i DON'T use reddit that much lately, just occasionally. seriously!
