The 13 platform seems like the overall choice. The 16 has good long term prospects if you like the form factor, but the options are limited because it's newer, and the expansion port makes it a little more difficult to work with. The 13 has been around for a long enough time that you can even slap a risc board in it. If you have problems with it after warranty you have plenty of options to get yourself up and running again without having to shell out a lot of money.

The 12 seems promising and interesting (the idea of a non-Microsoft surface-like computer that isn't landfill bound is very intriguing IMO) but a bit limited. IIRC, it doesn't even have two RAM slots. It's likely worth it to let the platform develop a little before buying one.

Buying anything that isn't an x3D CPU at this point is abject stupidity.

Intel CPUs might as well be worthless piles of sand. Hotter slower and higher battery usage.

As far as laptops are concerned Intel has not a single sku worth the sand it's made of.

AMD fucks Intel hard since the birth of Ryzen CPUs, AMD Ryzen CPUs are more power efficient than intel which is ideal for laptops and Ryzen CPUs are a bit cheaper than with intel, also Ryzen iGPUs are more powerful than intel which is bonus

They're power hungry for about the same performance as AMD. At least the i-series

Eh, we all have opinions. I bought two frameworks last year, both AMD, and they're notably faster and better at basic gaming than the intels I had from a previous generation (2019). The core i7 I had in my Dell also became very slower as they fixed various issues due to vulnerabilities caused by their bad engineering. As far as I know the equivalent AMD issues were neither as widespread nor as severe in nature, and the fixes didn't stack up performance losses the way they did on Intel chips.

If you exclude non English language, you have to exclude their sales too.. unless you're suggesting the Chinese users that make up 30% of steam users don't buy anything...

Why stop there? If you filter it by “users not using windows” we can get that number over 90%!

You need to install CUDA first, if you have a Nvidia card. Limine is already an option when you install the os.

Pretty much everything I've tried has worked seamlessly out of the box. Obviously, the same issues crop up as with any other Linux system: you pretty much cannot play kernel level anticheat games, womp womp. I might have installed my video drivers myself, I honestly don't recall, but it's as easy as grabbing them from pacman.

For my particular setup, I'm using an Nvidia card and mostly only use Steam for games, although I have gotten Proton to work with a couple of games outside of Steam.

In case you're new to Linux in general, when I first installed Steam, I noticed I could only play a small fraction of my games and was disheartened, but you just have to turn on the Proton compatibility layer and you're good to go.

I do also have a Windows 11 VM for any compatibility issues, but I honestly haven't booted it up in months.

So now all the best games will run on BUTTS BUTTS BOOTYS, and journalists will have to call it that.

Looks like things changed the last decades? AMD was the only CPU I saw dying on my machine. Intel was rock solid, but that was years ago.

That was the one Distro that appealed to my wife enough for her to allow me to switch her Windows in her work PC. Now she hates to have to go to her windows laptop to do some taxes shit in our country every month because they only allow excel.

Yes, I've been experimenting with different Linux distros since 2008 and I was pretty skeptical about "Atomic" distros when they first started buzzing around a few years ago.

However, this past year we've had to make the jump to Linux due to windows 11 shenanigans. But let me tell you. She's got Bazzite and I've had to distro hop different arch distros.

But let me tell you, I am incredibly jealous of the amount of things that "just work™️" on her setup. Things that I've had to track down on obscure forums. Avoiding footguns and landmines.

I used to recommend Ubuntu, then it was Linux Mint, and now, I recommend any Atomic distro that fits your purpose.
