Remember when you didn't even need to log into anything? I genuinely want the internet to go back to that

InFerNo@lemmy.ml · 38 pts · 243d

But then how can we sell your email to our 1873 partners?

plateee@piefed.social · 26 pts · 243d (4 replies)

Come with me back to IRC land. The water's fine.

(Technically you should log in to nickserv, but that's it)

InFerNo@lemmy.ml · 8 pts · 243d (1 reply)

Only if you want your nick to be reserved, right? At least that's what Q does on quakenet.

plateee@piefed.social · 3 pts · 243d

Yeah, if you don't worry about someone impersonating your account you don't have to reserve.

Korhaka@sopuli.xyz · 3 pts · 243d

Normally only bothered if it was somewhere I wanted to return to frequently, otherwise no point registering

VinnyDaCat@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 243d

/msg ns identify password

Good times.

UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 243d (1 reply)

It's waxed and waned.

I remember when you had to log into everything, but there wasn't much to visit. Then people started using the Internet en mas and selling ads was the market maker. So you didn't need to log in, but you did get the most malicious JavaScript ever written trying to jam pop-ups under your cursor.

Now we've somehow managed to achieve the worst of both worlds

laurelraven@lemmy.zip · 4 pts · 243d

Then: "If you don't have to pay for it then you're the product"

Now: "You have to pay for it and you're the product"

DempstersBox@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 243d

jesus fucking tell me about it. When the internet was the domain of the nerd doing cool shit because it was cool, instead of... ugh

finitebanjo@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 243d

Unless it's got literally nothing of note on it, I try to make a habit to log into everything manually every time. Some sites find this "suspicious" and make me check my phone and email to get in, which can be a little annoying.

sexy_peach@feddit.org · 72 pts · 244d (13 replies)

What the fuck is that real?

HowAbt2day@futurology.today · 54 pts · 244d (3 replies)

I can answer that but we’ll need to confirm your identify with a pic of your titties. /s

anomnom@sh.itjust.works · 4 pts · 243d (2 replies)

How good is your boobs or butt detector?

HowAbt2day@futurology.today · 3 pts · 243d (1 reply)

I’ll need to calibrate with some additional samples of titties before I can respond.

EldritchFeminity@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 1 pts · 243d

Can't be worse than the Tumblr algorithm banning photos of deserts as porn.

Saapas@piefed.zip · 35 pts · 244d (1 reply)

Lol no, they aren't going to try and find your ID in online data breaches. It's a joke about these "send us your ID to confirm your age" things get breached all the time

planish@sh.itjust.works · 6 pts · 243d

It might work though. They keep making laws about using "commercial databases" but they never say you actually have to pay for them.

possumparty@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 11 pts · 243d

I believe it's a post from a dude in xitter named Soren Iverson, he does posts like this all the time. Basically just black mirror-esque tech site updates.

AbsolutelyClawless@piefed.social · 3 pts · 243d (1 reply)

While the data breach part isn't real, the rest of it is.

DempstersBox@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 243d

lol, the data breach part is super real. Them actually searching for it for your authentication isn't.

Never not fucking ever will I ever upload any ID to any internet anything. I don't like using my bank card online. Or in person. Cash is king baby, all else is bullshit and giving fuckers new and exciting ways to steal your shit

Rusty@lemmy.ca · 2 pts · 243d (1 reply)

It's related to Australian social media ban for teenagers https://discord.com/safety/introducing-new-teen-by-default-experiences-for-australian-users It's not discord's fault, they are just complying with a ridiculous law.

A_A@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 243d

Makes me think of that guy who does mockups of hellworld tech concepts

UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world · 13 pts · 243d

Apytele@sh.itjust.works · 18 pts · 244d (1 reply)

Hubs wanted to sell some used household goods but everybody is on Facebook marketplace and using venmo and cashapp and shit these days and I'm just like :| And now his friend says he wants to use zelle for me to go halvsies with him on hubs Christmas present. Fucking marks of the beast!

DempstersBox@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 243d

So sad to me that craigslist, or even just fucking yard sales, and cash seem to be going down in use in the states. Cash is king, baby

Gladaed@feddit.org · 15 pts · 244d

Actually a great way to id. And cheat by using some else's id.

dechnically@sh.itjust.works · 9 pts · 243d
