This pun only works if you mispronounce one or the other

deadbeef79000@lemmy.nz · 60 pts · 255d (5 replies)

Like persephone playing a saxophone.

bhamlin@lemmy.world · 35 pts · 255d (4 replies)

Penelope rhymes with antelope!

enchantedgoldapple@sopuli.xyz · 18 pts · 255d (3 replies)

Just like Zeus and Odysseus!

Venus_Ziegenfalle@feddit.org · 4 pts · 255d (1 reply)

Or Socrates and Testicles!

GreyEyedGhost@piefed.ca · 5 pts · 255d

One of the more memorable lines from "Whoes Line Is It Anyway", for me as least, was when one of them said, "How's it hanging, Tes-ti-cles?"

llacook@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 255d

With Odysseus being to Zeus as Wario is to Mario

protist@mander.xyz · 21 pts · 255d

Pretty sure that's the point

too_high_for_this@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 255d (1 reply)

Or both!

Evil_Shrubbery@thelemmy.club · 5 pts · 255d

Chistotle on Arispotle?

Kacarott@aussie.zone · 8 pts · 255d

I thought that was part of the joke

wolfrasin@lemmy.today · 5 pts · 255d

What if we said them both wrongly (⌐■_■)

Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca · 4 pts · 256d

Like not even close mispronounce.

TheBlindPew@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 4 pts · 255d

Yeah, everyone knows the correct pronunciation is Chip-ōl-tay

TigerAce@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 255d (2 replies)

Well, there isn't an 'é' at the end of Chipotle so I assume you pronounce it like Aristotle instead of like Nestlé.

LSNLDN@slrpnk.net · 5 pts · 255d (1 reply)

I unironically thought it was pronounced chipottel until I heard Cartman in that South Park episode

TigerAce@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 1 pts · 255d

Hahaha I had the same thing when John Oliver made a joke about it

robocall@lemmy.world · 53 pts · 255d (1 reply)

The_Lurker@lemmy.world · 14 pts · 256d (17 replies)

I could probably get it if I knew the emperor. But I don't. And I can't.

brossman@infosec.pub · 46 pts · 256d (8 replies)

it's aristotle (pronounced aristotle)

Excrubulent@slrpnk.net · 26 pts · 256d

Thanks for clarifying the pronunciation, I was confused.

too_high_for_this@lemmy.world · 18 pts · 255d

I believe it's actually pronounced Aristotle, to rhyme with Aristotle

wolfrasin@lemmy.today · 5 pts · 255d (4 replies)

'Aristotle, Aristotle was a bugger for the bottle'

By examination of rhyme in ancient songs of yore we can guess at correct pronunciation

Hossenfeffer@feddit.uk · 1 pts · 255d

Yes, Socrates himself is particularly missed
A lovely little thinker, but a bugger when he's pissed

guy@piefed.social · 0 pts · 255d (2 replies)

No way in hell I'm pronouncing it to rhyme with bottle

wolfrasin@lemmy.today · 2 pts · 255d (1 reply)

You prefer to call him A-wrist-tote-lay?

guy@piefed.social · 3 pts · 255d

A-rizz-totely or no dice

The_Lurker@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 255d

I get it now!

Or Applebees

The_Lurker@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 255d (1 reply)

That's where I got confused. I thought it was Marcus Aurelius. Very confused.

MacNCheezus@lemmy.today · 4 pts · 255d

No, he’s at Dunkin Donuts

Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 255d
