All food should be free comrade. I don't consider chickens to be food though so please consider plant based wings

Soulg@ani.social · 12 pts · 240d (3 replies)

Not as good, can't wait for lab grown meat to be viable

thethunderwolf@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 239d

So your fucking FOOD PREFERENCES justify the vileness of a murderous practice and the industry aroud it?

alx@piefed.blahaj.zone · -5 pts · 239d (1 reply)

So, exploitation and mass murder is okay because alternatives don’t taste as good for you?

Hot take: every single person that says "I can’t wait for lab grown meat" is lying, possibly to themselves too, and will consume corpses on a daily basis even when "lab grown meat" is available, because then they’ll have thought of another excuse.

snugglesthefalse@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 239d

I'd change if it was economical and I couldn't tell the difference. That being said there's a lot of meat I end up having because I don't really check if it's got meat or not, just go by what sounds nice at the time so it'd probably be based on widespread adoption more than a conscious choice on my part.

SuperNovaStar@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 12 pts · 240d

Cauliflower makes for really excellent "wings"

hoch@lemmy.world · -2 pts · 240d (7 replies)

I considered it, but ultimately determined chickens are too tasty

wuzzlewoggle@feddit.org · 5 pts · 239d (4 replies)

The thing is, they really aren't. Have you ever eaten an unseasoned piece of chicken? It's totally tasteless. Almost all the flavor comes from the spices, which means you could just as well put those spices on anything else and it will taste pretty much like chicken.

stray@pawb.social · 6 pts · 239d (3 replies)

I'm against industrialized abuse and slaughter of animals, but unseasoned meat is delicious. I don't think making things up about the flavor is a good argument.

wuzzlewoggle@feddit.org · 2 pts · 239d (2 replies)

Well maybe our tastes just differ then. A steak I can understand but unseasoned chicken tastes like absolutely nothing to me.

poopsmith@lemmy.ml · 3 pts · 239d (1 reply)

The seasoning also can enhance the flavor of the thing it is seasoning. Chocolate syrup is great on ice cream, but not on chicken. Barbecue sauce is good on chicken and not on ice cream. That a given seasoning can be better or worse based on the underlying food would imply that foods have a characteristic of improving more or less given some particular seasoning. The point is that chicken has the ability to improve greatly with the right seasoning, which might not be as true of some other foods. There's also texture and nutrition, of course.

That said, chickens don't deserve to be tortured and killed to meet the carnal pleasures of man.

wuzzlewoggle@feddit.org · 0 pts · 239d

Good point! But I feel like chicken is the one meat that is very easy to replicate taste wise. I had "fake chicken" that tasted identical to the real thing, and that was because of the seasoning. So yeah, chicken may have a subtle taste that is improved greatly by seasoning but the same can be said for tofu or other supplements. And if you use the same seasoning as you'd use for chicken, I'd argue most people would only find a difference in the texture.

But in the end it's all about personal taste I guess.

And 100% agree on your last point, no living being deserves that.

thethunderwolf@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 1 pts · 239d (1 reply)

So your fucking FOOD PREFERENCES justify the vileness of a murderous practice and the industry aroud it?

hoch@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 239d

Yes.

Though as soon as lab-grown meat is commercially available, I'll be making the switch. Factory farming is an ethical nightmare, but chicken wings are just too damn tasty.

I ate all the bones btw >:3

If you wanna be pedantic - I do - it would be οστεα (idk the accents, it's been 13 years) / ostea for bones. Hyperostemia might work.

Noooo the poor chickens!

F04118F@feddit.nl · 52 pts · 240d (4 replies)

Can my plant wings have bones in them, as per Ohio state law?

ragebutt@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 5 pts · 240d

I went to a fancy vegan place that put fake bones in their vegan wings. It was basically a chopstick. I don’t know who wants such a thing and it seemed like a choking hazard

F04118F@feddit.nl · 4 pts · 240d

Of course, as long as your bone wings have plants in them.

Bone plants with wings is where I draw the line personally

dejected_warp_core@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 240d (3 replies)

Trans people should have free boneless wings

As in "instead of arms" or "to eat"?

luciferofastora@feddit.org · 3 pts · 240d (2 replies)

Given the picture, they probably mean the food.

Also, why "instead"? If we're being fantastic already, make it "in addition to". I'm not sure what good wings without bones would do though.

thethunderwolf@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 239d (1 reply)

Insect wings don't have "bones"

They are better for flying actually i think

They flap faster and in a more complex pattern giving more lift

luciferofastora@feddit.org · 2 pts · 239d

Insects don't have bones at all, do they? They generally have a chitinous exoskeleton, unless I've been sleeping in biology class (or our teacher talked bullshit, which is a very real possibility tbh).

They also tend to be a lot smaller and lighter than most mammals and birds. Given how mass, force required for flying and leverage forces on the wings scale with size, I'd say that makes the wings better for insects or perhaps for animals of that size and weight, but probably not for larger sizes.

Also, don't insect wings still have support structures?

And do you have any easily digestible info about the flapping patterns? You've got me intrigued. (Yes, I could DDG it or check Wikipedia, but I generally like the human interaction of sharing stuff you're interested or versed in with others)

TigerAce@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 12 pts · 240d (3 replies)

No one should have this. What do you have against trans people, I wouldn't wish boneless wings to my worst enemy.

ShotDonkey@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 240d (2 replies)

I am European and I don't even know what that is and don't want to. Boneless wings... I taste vomit in my mouth while I read the word, don't know why.

kogasa@programming.dev · 10 pts · 239d

It's chicken tenders with sauce

TigerAce@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 240d

I'm Dutch, I have exactly the same. Feels like looking at it already takes away months of my life. Boneless wings is from chicken from Chernobyl? Who would eat that....

thethunderwolf@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 239d

Insect wings are boneless and better for flying than bird wings

HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 240d (4 replies)

To use or to eat? Because I want boneless wings to use, and if I gotta pay my Trans homies gotta pay too

luciferofastora@feddit.org · 3 pts · 240d (3 replies)

...use for what?

If you mean flying, I'm not sure wings without some structural support will do a great job of maintaining airflow or generating lift.

HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 239d (2 replies)

i'm already a monstrosity i just want to have some extra nubbins for freaking out the med students when they take me apart

What makes you a monstrosity though?

thethunderwolf@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 0 pts · 239d (2 replies)

Mass animal murder, and thus boneless wings, should not be legal

But we can give trans people something else for free, like maybe something they need, such as gender affirming healthcare

And actually how about also giving everyone free food

Maven@piefed.zip · 6 pts · 239d

Vegan wings are inherently boneless and so they would be included as free boneless wings.

Whats_your_reasoning@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 239d

I'm loving how many comments are along this line. If this were Reddit, the trolls would be out in full force downvoting valid comments because "ew vegan." I don't know if it's because the mods are stellar on this com, or if it's evidence of overlap and/or acceptance between trans individuals and veganism, but it's refreshing to see.

We currently have a cis guy, in a trans femme community, saying “what about me?????” and his tantrum is most of the discussion.

With all due respect, get bent.

tanisnikana@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 240d

You come into trans spaces, say something cheap and borderline offensive like “oh if I put on a skirt can I join you?” No, guy, we are more than just clothes.

Then when myself and others tell you that this is a bad look, in true cis-male fashion, you double down and get indignant.

Take the L and go home before you dig deeper.
