Trump tells Iran to sign deal with US or ‘the whole country is going to get blown up’

https://www.the-independent.com/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-iran-negotiations-infrastructure-bridges-b2960588.html

Donald Trump has issued his latest threat to Iran and said that if officials fail to make a deal with the United States “the whole country is going to get blown up.”

The president also made threats Sunday morning to target civil infrastructure after it was reported that Iranian forces were refusing to allow ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz this weekend.

Sadly, you're wrong. It will be forgotten. That's why history keeps repeating itself.

If people didn't forget, they wouldn't have voted for fascists. After the war, people swore they would never forget the horrors of fascism either. And yet... Trump is soiling the White House today.

This time it's even worse, because Americans have been taught about Hitler and Nazism and the horrors that follow with authoritarian governments.

Original post:
Has it been forgotten, if you mention Hitler, does anyone still remember? No it will not be forgotten, just as the USA helping Europe hasn’t been forgotten. But the reason Germany was slowly forgiven was first that they were split in 2 making the power of Germany smaller, it was a different time, with no prior historical lesson to learn from regarding Nazism. and that the political environment in both parts of Germany was changed completely, with Western Germany taking responsibility more than any country had done before them.

Back in 2000 he won fair. He did so by playing a strong conservative and nationalist campaign and ridiculing his opponents with the help of a lot media coverage from friendly channels.

Even now I'd say he doesn't even have to cheat in the elections themselves because he changed the country itself to the point where he can have any real threats thrown in jail or killed and has a firm hold over what most of the population knows and gets suggested just keeps him very popular.

In a lot of ways it's Trump, after he's been allowed to stay in power for 26 years

UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 118d

You help Trump come to power

More than likely no, you didn't. The election was on rails when Biden decided to drag his moldy ass into a race he couldn't win, rather than stepping aside after a single term and opening up the primary. Trump came to power because Merrick Garland refused to prosecute him for his many crimes and Silicon Valley swept in to money bomb him.

Individual voters had no say in any of that. The EC guaranteed they had only the most marginal say in which way their state went. And even the on-the-ground campaigns were dwarfed by the degree of corporate, industrial, and overseas manipulation of public opinion.

To say any given voter is "responsible" for Trump is like blaming any given butterfly for the next hurricane.

So that relatively small group of soldiers sitting in boats far from shore without adequate food or supplies are going to crush the much larger and entrenched entire Iranian military now huh. Sounds real scary.

One silver lining to all this is that evidently Trump has learned that its harder to attack a mid sized country halfway around the world --without allies-- in challenging terrain -- than it is to attack some unarmed civilians trying to get to work in portland or minneapolis.

I mean at least 1/3 of Americans say it's why we have the 2nd amendment. And 2/3 of the Supreme Court would likely agree, just they wouldn't admit we are at that point where it is necessary. Turns out that the Secret Service really is one of the few truly competent branches of government still around these days. I guess it's just always, regardless of party or doctrine, in the best interest of the president to have the service operate with extreme competence. Trump will happily fill government branches full of incompetent goons instructed to gum up the works. He'll happily dismantle multiple Congress-mandated departments and programs. He'll grift off every bit of government graft he can. But I bet the Secret Service is the one he actually lets be run competently. If there's anything the man cares about, it's himself.

Getting a gun is the easiest part.

Then you need to find an opportunity and make a plan for it. Then execute the plan and adapt to unforeseen circumstances. Training with the firearm and other preparations make sense as well. If you want to shoot Trump from close range you might need to social engineer your way into an opportunity. You will also need money for a bunch of expenses besides a gun.

There have been two attempts to shoot Trump that I remember, maybe more. The secret service is a formidable security provider for him.

You will also have to risk being shot by secret service or be ready to serve a long prison sentence or even the death penalty. Not such an easy decision.

Teamwork has its own challenges. Building a team and making group decisions is already difficult, if you’re planning a fishing trip. A high profile assassination is a different league. Finally any team member might get cold feet, change their mind, and snitch to the authorities. Then you go to prison without having achieved anything of substance.

shiv@sh.itjust.works · 0 pts · 118d

All very good points.

My "teamwork" comment would work if there was a "no kings" rally but with guns and it was a march on Washington. Obviously that would be borderline impossible to organize but at this point I think a loud enough public call to action (maybe by a celeb) could actually make it happen.

As far as doing it like James Bond, I don't think there would be an escape there. It would be a suicide mission, accepting that you'll die is part of it.

Your comment never touched on fertilizer bombs like Timothy Mcvay (would be tough to get close but not impossible). Especially with an MMA event happening on the front lawn of the white house soon.

It is, but at the same time it happens very often. Was it half or 1/3 of all US presdents died by being shot? And most of those were not actively trying to destroy their own country and any international relations it had.

NannerBanner@literature.cafe · 3 pts · 118d (1 reply)

Actually died? Lol, no. Four out of 46, or roughly 8-9%. Lincoln, garfield, mckinley, kennedy.

If you include those shot at you can up those numbers a bit. Off the top of my head roosevelt, trump, reagan, and the other roosevelt, ford,

Jackson is the fun story, where an assassin pulled two pistols and both of them misfired or jammed. Taft had an assassin apprehended before he shot. Truman had assassins in the white house, but wasn't in immediate shooting range/sight line. Nixon had a guy who wanted to shoot him, but the car went by too fast, so the assassin later shot a governor. Obama and clinton both had rifles fired at the white house.

So if we include everything involving firearms, we have lincoln, garfield, mckinley, kennedy, roosevelts 1&2, ford, reagan, jackson, obama, and clinton. That's 11/46, or ~24%. Bump that up a wee bit if you want taft to be included.

There's also some standouts for grenades and bombs, but we were originally talking about death by being shot, so...

Trump talks the talk, but I would be surprised if the Iranians didn't quietly start to walk the walk and prepare some blowing up of their own.

UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 119d

I don't think either of them have been shy about blowing shit up.

I do think France is slowly manufacturing consent to involve itself on behalf of Israel. If the EU sides with the US in this fight, it could get very ugly for Iran.

Samskara@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 118d

Iran has been blowing up stuff all over the region for decades and ramped it up recently.

Is this a new threat to blow up the country, after his last threat to do so where he claimed to have gotten a ceasefire (which Israel breached on Lebanon less than 24 hours later)?

Honestly, I think Iran will win the war. The corruption of the Trump Regime has defanged the US in all kinds of ways. However much the rabid pitbull bites, it has only gums. The teeth are gone.

dependencyinjection@discuss.tchncs.de · 3 pts · 118d (2 replies)

You tripping. Nobody is winning that war and America, sadly still has lots of teeth.

ddplf@szmer.info · 4 pts · 118d (1 reply)

But can they bite into a territory you can't land on? Drone strikes and artillery can only get you so far, and the world is not happy with Donald Trump blocking one of the globe's primary oil corridors.
