So if I went to see Trump talk in a crowd he'd say that he was resigning then turning himself in for his many crimes and would be issuing a full confession?

But the reason Germany was slowly forgiven was first that they were split in 2 making the power of Germany smaller, it was a different time, with no prior historical lesson to learn from regarding Nazism. and that the political environment in both parts of Germany was changed completely, with Western Germany taking responsibility more than any country had done before them.
