Why? Most democratic officials are closeted republicans.

Right. How else is Jeffries and Chuck going to afford their beach front property in Gaza if they don't receive million from the fossil fuel lobby.

they just ask aipac for more dollars, which is basically us tax money.

Don’t know about that part. It’s just rooting for a team to stand up literally and it ain’t happening as much, preventing unnecessary spending, marginalizing communities, is been the rapport for either parties. Like this is a hot take but all party motto/slogan is tip toeing too much. Some real change or something needs to happen to garter my favor.

Do you think chuck cares about Palestinian people. Dude spear headed so many weapon sales to Isreal. He wants every Palestinian dead. Jeffries is doing it for the money.

This isn't really true, though some are. It's just that both Democrats and Republicans are almost all owned by the owner class, so support any corporate protections. That isn't anything that Republicans own. It's both parties.

DarkFuture@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 136d (3 replies)

on the real issues that effect everyone (economics) the two parties are almost perfectly aligned.

Is that why one has a good track record with the economy and the other absolutely fucking tanks it every fucking time?

And it's "affect" not "effect". Yes, I'm being that asshole.

Steve@communick.news · 7 pts · 136d (2 replies)

They differ in the details slightly, accounting for performance differences. But every time the interests of the asset class conflicts with the interests of the consumer class, they both make sure the asset class is happy.

Whenever I see affect I think of people making faces. And any single economic decision effects people, while the economy as a whole affects people. With my phrasing I can see either works.

Ageroth@reddthat.com · 6 pts · 136d (1 reply)

Affect is a verb: the rising grocery and gas prices are affecting my spending choices.

Effect is a noun: the effect of rising grocery and gas prices are changing my spending choices

In your example: any single economic decision has an effect on people, while the economy as a whole affects people.

Right wing violence (which includes neo Nazis, fundamentalist Christians bombing abortion clinics, etc) and fundamentalist Islam attacks make up the overwhelming majority of political violence in the USA but left wing violence exists. And of that left wing violence the majority is what they call “ecoterrorism”

It’s not obscenely common (tbf no political violence is “extremely common” in America, statistically still very unlikely) but it does happen. It’s just far less publicized because “some people bombed an oil transport line/hummer dealership at night/etc” is not nearly as clickbaity as “weird scumbag with a manifesto about great replacement theory posted to 8chan shot 35 people”

Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 1 pts · 136d

I don't want to sound condescending but so it's both not known about and doesn't seem to work. I mean you won't have regime change because an insurance company has to pay elon musk for burnt unsold cars.

zd9@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 132d

It's not nearly as much as it should be based on how many people are angry at the regime, but also the news doesn't want to publicize it because they don't want to give other people any ideas. Look at the response after they tried trashing Luigi, everyone loved and supported his cause, and they quickly dropped coverage.

I'll be honest, I don't really care. None of these laws mean anything if the government is completely rebuilt from the ground up. Every single thing this admin does will be worth so much burned toilet paper. All the grifts ill gotten gains will be liquidated and confiscated by whoever the fuck hangs them all in the streets, as is most likely to happen. All the bills that say shit like "no regulations on AI evar!! Lol" or "Donald Trumps name on everything, including mt Kilimanjaro for some reason" will be meaningless.

CosmicTurtle0@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 20 pts · 136d (6 replies)

The only way this will happen is through violence, and even then it's not a guarantee.

  • conservative South loss against the north in the civil war and there were no reparations or punishment.
  • Nixon came the closest to being impeached and charges were dropped as soon as he resigned, despite the fact that the votes were there. We was then fucking pardoned because "we need to move on."
  • fucking TRUMP will "learn his lesson" for forcing Ukraine to provide opposition research on Biden in exchange for security.
  • TRUMP again when he literally caused people to storm the capitol.
  • when Biden was in office, house refused to even push more impeachment talks because "he's not president anymore" and then got Pikachu faced when he ran again.
  • when Trump finally was found guilty in New York, the judge fucking gave him no jail time.

Democrats refuse to hold Republicans accountable and we need to start acting like they are part of the problem.

HasturInYellow@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 136d

Your first sentence is about the gist of it. No way out of it now.

discocactus@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 135d

You have to remember that at the time of the civil war the US was a largely agrarian and geopolitically irrelevant backwater. It was terrified that the civil war would be the beginning of the end. So the lack of reparations was partly due to the fact that the south was (and still largely is) destitute, and partly because the north wanted a genuine reunification with minimal bad blood. Not saying it was the right choice. But it was based in logic.

Hopefully we have all learned the lesson of tolerating bigots and thieves.

4grams@awful.systems · 3 pts · 136d (11 replies)

I'll be honest, I don't really care.

This is how they win, you are doing precisely what they want.

HasturInYellow@lemmy.world · -1 pts · 136d (10 replies)

You misunderstand. We either win everything or nothing. If we win, nothing they did with the laws will be permanent because there will not be this set of laws anyways. I abjectly refuse to participate if we do not redo the entire system.

4grams@awful.systems · 7 pts · 136d (5 replies)

Again, that’s what they hope for. You aren’t being noble, you are just noping out when it gets hard.

HasturInYellow@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 136d (1 reply)

If we defeat them and do nothing about the system that did this, I am fucking off forever.

4grams@awful.systems · 3 pts · 136d

Oh, agreed. But that means we have to fight harder when the system is working against us. To defeat them, we have to keep playing the game.

Squirrelanna@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 1 pts · 136d (2 replies)

They're not saying "I don't care because nothing matters". They're saying "I don't care because everything they do will be meaningless when we get them the fuck out of there".

4grams@awful.systems · 2 pts · 136d (1 reply)

Right, and what I’m saying is that is the mentality the power structure is trying to make us all feel.

You vote every time, you show up every time. I’m not saying vote for anyone specifically, but don’t give up your power. It is not meaningless to fight these fuckers, and just waiting it out is the only guaranteed way they will win.

Squirrelanna@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 3 pts · 135d

No no you got it backwards. What THEY do is meaningless because we we will make it meaningless by doing exactly what you're saying.

phutatorius@lemmy.zip · 2 pts · 136d (3 replies)

We either win everything or nothing.

The first is impossible without committing atrocities, and the second is a worst case.

I abjectly refuse to participate if we do not redo the entire system.

Abject indeed. You've bought the "stay home and do nothing" propaganda, which is just what they want you do do.

HasturInYellow@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 136d

What the fuck are you talking about?

IF WE GET OFF THE COUCH AND MURDER THE FASCISTS AND FIX EVERYTHING THAT WOULD BE GREAT. IT WOULD ALSO RENDER ALL THEIR FUCKERY WITH THE LAWS NULL AND VOID.

I AM NOT ADVOCATING THAT WE DO NOTHING. I AM SAYING THAT THEIR ACTIONS AND FLAILING ARE NOT IMPORTANT BECAUSE WE ALL DIE FROM CLIMATE COLLAPSE IN 30-40 YEARS WITH THEM IN POWER OR WE FIX THIS SHIT AND ONLY PROBABLY DIE HORRIBLY FROM CLIMATE COLLAPSE IN 100-200 YEARS.

I AM FIGHTING FOR THE REDUCTION IN OUR CHANCES OF DEATH.

did you hear me that time...?

Jako302@feddit.org · 0 pts · 136d (1 reply)

From an outside perspective its pretty clear that there is no coming back for the US without a violent intervention.

With how fucked up your electoral college is, there is now option for a third party to slowly grow in support like its possible in most democracies. That means your only options are both far right corporate puppets that have no real interest in fixing the underlying problems of the country, which in turn radicalises even more people.

Sure the Democrats are oders of magnitude better than the current nutjobs, but they historically did only the bare minimum to be seen as "the good guys" and "progressive". Anywhere else in the world they would still be right wing conservatives. Looking at how Mamdani policies get criticized by members of his own party should be all the proof you need.

Pretty much the only way out of this downward circle would be for 100 Million Americans to simultaneously decide to vote for the same 3rd party.

discocactus@lemmy.world · 0 pts · 135d

That would be the ideal solution, yes.

They framed it as a way to “protect American energy from leftist legal crusades punishing lawful activity.”

Aren't lawful actions already protected by, you know, the law? By definition, the only legal punishments that could happen are for illegal actions. This doesn't even make the slightest bit of sense as reasoning. They didn't even try to manufacture justification.

Anyway, when the justice system no longer can be relied on to provide justice, extra-legal methods must be taken to ensure a just society. Them doing this could be either of two things, or both. It's them actually protecting dirty energy companies, as it sounds, or it's them requiring vigilantism to stop it, which gives them justification to crack down on "the left" and anyone else who stands against them.

Edit: Also, they consistently say that climate change isn't real, and yet they feel the need to pass a law that explicitly is there to protect against the harms of climate change. Either it's real, and they should pay (especially since they knew about it and mislead the public, which this also explicitly protects), or it isn't real, and this law is pointless.

pupbiru@aussie.zone · 9 pts · 136d

the actual way to solve “leftist legal crusades” (if they exist): anti-SLAPP laws that punish frivolous lawsuits… but that would hurt them more than “leftists”
