Yeah, yeah, the time knife. We've all seen it.

the implication being that we will have brain implant technology thats for the people and not purely surveillance shows this is a work of fiction.

kinsnik@lemmy.world · 106 pts · 110d (6 replies)

i'm sure that during the 10,000 years falling there were plenty of billboards and ads

homes@piefed.world · 22 pts · 110d

The knives are the only way they can get “impressions” in the future

Sunforged@lemmy.ml · 9 pts · 110d (3 replies)

Do you watch the ad for the brief reprive or skip it to get to the bottom of the tunnel faster.

SethTaylor@lemmy.world · 19 pts · 110d (2 replies)

You skip the ad, because even falling through a tunnel of knives is better than watching an ad

turtlesareneat@piefed.ca · 8 pts · 110d (1 reply)

Also the ad is for a new knife-tunnel-as-a-service

TeddE@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 110d

KTaaS?

merc@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 110d

The knives were Cutco, and they made sure that you saw the branding on them each time one of them cut you. Look at how that edge holds up? See how cleanly your flesh is parted by the blade?

CIA_chatbot@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 110d

Why not both?

ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca · 8 pts · 110d (2 replies)

Using it to torture the populace when they fall out of line sounds grand.

Signtist@bookwyr.me · 2 pts · 110d (1 reply)

Yeah, this doesn't sound like it's "for the people," it sounds like it's specifically for the system. Why bother with jails if you can just make people feel like they're being punished while still slaving away for their wealthy overlords?

ironhydroxide@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 109d

I don't see what is different. We have this now.

MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip · 3 pts · 110d

This broken system disassembles itself, it's not eternal.

Foreigner@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 110d

I mean, most of us are probably here on our phones which are spy on us constantly, so it's not that far-fetched

HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world · 0 pts · 110d

We already do. The stuff they are doing at UCSF is mindblowing

stepan@lemmy.cafe · 78 pts · 110d (12 replies)

I've had drugs that put me in a weird agonizing bodyless state for what seemed like probably days. It's really hard to describe, but it was terrible. And I think an hour or two in reality. This post reminded me of that strongly, an awful idea.

4am@lemmy.zip · 40 pts · 110d (5 replies)

I didn’t like Salvia either

wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz · 32 pts · 110d (1 reply)

More like 5 minutes in real time. But yeah, feels like days if not an eternity. And there's always that feeling of "Oh fuck. I'm never making it back to my body. In fact, my body was just an illusion, and now that it's gone I'll never get it back, like a dream you can't go back to after waking."

And that typically occupies your mind for the rest of the trip. Until it fades, and you find yourself back in your body, and after you kiss the ground you think "Well that wasn't so bad afterall. I bet if I try it again I can make it past that part without panicking."

Nope. It's like there's something you can't fully remember after the trip ends, but each time you go back you realize "Oh fuck, that's right. That's why this is so terrifying."

And then you make it back to your body again, kiss the ground, rinse and repeat...

monotremata@lemmy.ca · 5 pts · 110d

This was my experience with ketamine therapy as well. I think they gave me way too high a dose.

Agent641@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 110d

I've never had a good trip on salvia. Always nightmarish experiences, every time. Maybe I should quit doing it one day.

sparky@lemmy.federate.cc · 1 pts · 110d

I’ve never tried salvia but if this is an accurate description of the trip then I guess I’ll pass..

stepan@lemmy.cafe · 1 pts · 110d

it was some ai weed actually

mondomon@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 110d (5 replies)

I love time dilation. Curse this temporal prison.

Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 3 pts · 110d (4 replies)

The only things that have given me insane time dilation are Foxxy and a horrfying dose of ketamine.

baines@lemmy.cafe · 5 pts · 110d (1 reply)

i had time dilation and body size dysmorphia because of a very high fever after a parrot bacterial infection

Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 110d

Oooooo don’t to Foxxy unless you want a flashback to that…

sydd@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 110d (1 reply)

Foxxy?

Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 3 pts · 110d

Foxxy is 5-MeO-DiPT! It’s probably the weirdest thing I’ve ever tried. It had craaaazy aural and temporal distortions. I’ve never had something that changed the pitch and length of notes in songs that noticeably. Super mega weird stuff.

trackball_fetish@lemmy.wtf · 50 pts · 110d

Ah yes, the e-salvia special

qualia@lemmy.world · 45 pts · 110d (14 replies)

If we can't live forever, overclocking our brain-computer interfaces to cram more virtual time into our remaining years is the next best thing.

Maybe eventually there'll be FOSS privacy respecting degree packages that you can incorporate in maybe a week. Do 52 of them and prove something new at their insections. Repeat.

10,000 years of infomercials.

Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world · 14 pts · 110d (1 reply)

Can it at least be the magic bullet infomercial? The one where all the junkies wake up feeling like shit, and just want snacks, so they don't even question why a random guy is in their kitchen demoing the magic bullet. They just want nachos, and smoothies. Until Carol comes down and wants to make more drinks.

Like.....it's 8am, and she's bouncing down the stairs like "MARGARITAS PLEASE!!!!"

Carol. You have a problem.

Muaddib@sopuli.xyz · 1 pts · 110d

I think the guy with the magic bullet is the party host

Nomad@infosec.pub · 12 pts · 110d

That's how the training sequences in matrix worked.

MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip · 2 pts · 110d

The neat thing is, you could put a standardised neuro-usable (no bits & bytes) interface in there and the brain would figure by itself out, how to use it. No complicated "this guys memory works like this and goes there and there" like in SAO' NerveGear, the brain does that.

hansolo@lemmy.today · 2 pts · 110d (2 replies)

You should look into how many people have coma or other experiences of a whole lifetime, then wake up and get a whole second lifetime.

redsand@infosec.pub · 1 pts · 110d (2 replies)

There's a kurzgesagt you need to watch on this

qualia@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 110d (1 reply)

I believe I've seen them all, but maybe not. Do you remember the title?

redsand@infosec.pub · 1 pts · 110d

I probably never was going to at my age… but there was a chance I would consider it.

Oh fuck no. Zero. Negative one.
