In unrelated news, people across the world are shitting themselves to death. Scientists still trying to assess this one.

FuglyDuck@lemmy.world · 13 pts · 30d

I used to think b-rated sci-fi flicks had crappy plot hooks about how scientists would just release the world ending plot hook like that.

And then polish scientists released cannibal ants from an abandoned Soviet nuclear bunker to see what they’d do.

First, God sent the locusts. Americans voted them into office. So God came up with plan B: diarrhea.

Everyone shuts themselves to death

DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world · 29 pts · 30d

Someone should tell them they can buy yeast in the store.

spaghettiwestern@sh.itjust.works · 24 pts · 30d

I'll take, "Things you can do but should never fucking do." for $500, Alex.

LePoisson@lemmy.world · 17 pts · 30d

One small throwaway line about how scientists made sourdough with a yeast strain from him.

I know every single headline now is click bait but this didn't even say shit about who made the bread or how it turned out or anything whatsoever actually about scientists making bread with an ancient yeast.

1egg4u@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 30d (1 reply)

But how did it taste

slothrop@lemmy.ca · 14 pts · 30d

It couldn't; 'twas dead.

Float@startrek.website · 9 pts · 30d

Could we not tho

binarytobis@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 30d (2 replies)

I imagine the worst outcome would be if the bread was unbelievably delicious. They can’t exactly source more of it.

boonhet@sopuli.xyz · 12 pts · 30d

Could keep the starter going though

quick_snail@feddit.nl · 4 pts · 30d

Something something Rick and Morty pasta

Tylerdurdon@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 30d

Mmmm extra-sour dough

inconsistent_octopus@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 30d

Finally, some good news

Rhaedas@fedia.io · 3 pts · 30d

"Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."

LoonyLenny@lemdro.id · 2 pts · 30d

Served with his duck butter.

Shortstack@reddthat.com · 2 pts · 30d (1 reply)

I can’t imagine an ancient yeast would taste much different than sourdough made from modern wheat, especially if you use the same grain the iceman had available back in his time like einkorn. You’d still end up with tangy sourdough

Bane_Killgrind@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 1 pts · 29d

The point is obviously getting as close as possible to cannibalism, without actually being cannibalism.

kikutwo@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 30d

From between the toes?

quick_snail@feddit.nl · 1 pts · 30d

This story is old and still disgusting

FuglyDuck@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 30d

Getting Blue Nile vibes from this one.

And red Nile couldn’t be more disappointed

antsu@discuss.tchncs.de · 0 pts · 30d

Fuck it, get me some good butter I'd eat the whole loaf.
