Canvas 2026 has concluded!

Canvas 2026 has concluded!

Thank you all for participating, it's been a blast as always! 💜

Canvas 2026 ran from July 18th @ 4am UTC - July 20th @ 4am UTC

Feedback & Future Events

Hope you enjoyed the event as much as I and the moderators did! If you have any feedback, feature requests, or really anything, drop it in this thread (include any fun event ideas you have as well!)

Canvas Prints ✨

Bringing the Canvas prints back this year, but only for like 2 weeks. Once August 1st rolls around, the shop will close again. (You'll also be able to buy any previous year's prints)

https://sc07.shop/

International shipping is a pain, so this year the shop will only let you checkout with an address in the United States. But! if you are wanting to get a print, but are not in the US, fill out this form and I'll see what I can do :)

Source

Just as always, Canvas is an open source project! If you want to take a peek at the code, report and issue directly to the tracker, or even contribute yourself, the source is available on sc07.dev

You can register either with your Fediverse account, or with an email and password. Unfortunately due to a lot of casino bots, registration is behind an approval queue. Send an email to hello@sc07.com if you'd like to ensure I see it

Timelapses

Not yet available, but they will be posted in the !canvas@toast.ooo Lemmy community, on the @canvas@fediverse.events Mastodon, and of course on sc07.tv PeerTube

Data

Not yet available, but it will be available soon (I will update this post when it is available)

Tools

Check out Monte's CanvasStats.com to explore the world of data and numbers for all of the years (he's also added achievements this year!)

Special Thanks

Thank you to all of the moderators that helped out this year!

As always, thank you so much for participating! Every contribution makes the Canvas what it is 💜💜💜 - grant (https://grants.cafe/@grant / @grant@toast.ooo)

Didn’t know this was a thing but I appreciate the Germans telling Merz to lick balls.

Muehe@lemmy.ml · 30 pts · 15d (3 replies)

Oh yeah, a few weeks back a protester on some demonstration had a sign saying "Merz leck Eier" (lick eggs/balls, same diff), and the police confiscated the sign and charged them with "an insult to a political official capable of damaging their public work" (roughly translated), an obviously preposterous state of affairs even if you ignore the fact that we apparently have Lèse-majesté-laws again. Hence the well earned ridicule.

lmuel@sopuli.xyz · 9 pts · 15d (1 reply)

Maybe we should try calling him "1 pimmel" next?

Graphic design is our passion.

Ategon@programming.dev · 47 pts · 15d

Thanks everyone for participating <3 Hope to see you all next year again

The cursor dance party at the end was great

dangling_cat@piefed.blahaj.zone · 39 pts · 15d (4 replies)

Wow! The water trickles all the way from the top!

SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world · 12 pts · 15d (1 reply)

That’s the trickle down theory.

DmMacniel@feddit.org · 6 pts · 14d

trickle down

interestingly though is that the water trickled UP? (it was drawn from the bottom up)

jballs@sh.itjust.works · 6 pts · 14d

Nice detail, I didn't see that at first!

BradleyUffner@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 14d

I had it traced back to the planet Earth and stopped there, but now that you mention it, I can see it's coming from the river at the top right. Very cool!

joeljoelle@piefed.blahaj.zone · 39 pts · 15d

was my first canvas here and I had a lovely time, thank you for letting me help you all out with your amazing art, hope I didn't step on too many toes, you are wonderful people 💜 great job everyone

baltakatei@sopuli.xyz · 37 pts · 15d (1 reply)

TIL this happened.

grant@toast.ooo · 11 pts · 14d

yea it's always a struggle getting the event out lol

for this year I did setup a mailing list, so the posts don't get lost on your feed (and if you check your email regularly)

https://lists.sc07.com/postorius/lists/events-announcements.lists.sc07.com/

rimu@piefed.social · 31 pts · 15d (1 reply)

Thanks for running it :)

KoboldCoterie@pawb.social · 22 pts · 15d

Every time I come back here, I see this post and misread it as 'Thanks for ruining it :)' and it makes me momentarily angry until I realize what you actually said. So, thanks for that. :)

Deebster@infosec.pub · 29 pts · 15d

I liked that it didn't feel like there were many (any?) bots, and artwork was moved instead of being erased. Congrats to a smoothly running event, and thanks to all who played.

Wrufieotnak@feddit.org · 27 pts · 15d (3 replies)

Great picture and nearly no country flags, that's nice to see!

M137@lemmy.today · 13 pts · 15d (2 replies)

Except the UK who just can't stop themselves from colonising any new areas.

Wrufieotnak@feddit.org · 7 pts · 15d

Come on, let them have it. They have it hard enough already with all the leg shooting they are busy with.

(Also I have to admit that it is at least a visually interesting flag, not like so many others)

SnowmenMelt@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 15d

Do you have a flag?

IronKrill@lemmy.ca · 25 pts · 15d

Was also the first time I've participated and I loved it. Thanks for hosting, the end result looks fantastic! Great job everyone on all the detail work the second day. My favourite details has to be New Zealand leaking down half the canvas.

LordAmplifier@pawb.social · 23 pts · 15d

Thank you so much for organising this again! Canvas is always such a cool event and really shows how much cool stuff people can make when they work together :3

Muehe@lemmy.ml · 21 pts · 15d

Is it just me or is the picture missing the last few minutes?

Anyway, I enjoyed all the new features, especially templates, cursors, and the new pixel pulses. I think I barely managed to test half the new stuff in the few hours I participated. :D

Edit: Canvas_final_v2.png

There is indeed some stuff missing in the OP picture, see e.g. the void eyes below the pirate.

Edit 2: Fixed, thanks!

Grail@multiverse.soulism.net · 20 pts · 15d (4 replies)

Thanks for everyone who helped MULTIVERSE build the Woke zone! We had, in no particular order:

  • Souly the Soulism Ball
  • Esperanto
  • Trans
  • Queer
  • Antifascist Action
  • Aboriginal
  • XLOV
  • Otherkin
  • Neutrois
  • Lesbian
  • Voidpunk
  • Nonbinary
  • Water
  • Luz and Amity
  • Aboriginal Amongus

Amongus maybe isn't the wokest thing (although you SHOULD watch the TV show, it's very woke), and there were two anime girls in the woke zone who had nothing to do with leftism at all, but most of the art there is on-theme.

I also wanna shout out SLRPNK for their Hope is Rebellion and Turtle Island flags, the Palestine Flags with based political commentary, and the vegan community for the Dominion link and the QR code. You should definitely scan the QR code, you get to see cute animals on a farm! And they die in horrible ways in front of you! You might become a vegan if you scan the QR code.

My favourite detail (other than the animation of Souly smoking a joint you can see in the timelapse) is Mario riding the velociraptor from Dino Run, next to the QR code.

inlandempire@jlai.lu · 8 pts · 15d

glad we saved the antifa flag

Krusty@feddit.it · 6 pts · 15d (1 reply)

And a sneaky polyamory flag ;)

Grail@multiverse.soulism.net · 4 pts · 15d

Ohhhhh, that's what that is! I was wondering!

Pandantic@midwest.social · 4 pts · 14d

Bi erasure. 😢 We had a flag too, though someone drew over it a bit. IT WAS THERE!

SmackemWittadic@lemmy.world · 20 pts · 15d (3 replies)

Damn it!

The ONE time this year I get to go on vacation and I don't get to contribute to this masterpiece?

Everyone did a beautiful job on it!

grant@toast.ooo · 15 pts · 15d (2 replies)

It’ll be around a different time next year, which should avoid people’s vacations 😉 For some reason this was a very popular vacation weekend

There’s also a mailing list now, so things don’t get lost in your feed https://lists.sc07.com/postorius/lists/events-announcements.lists.sc07.com/

SmackemWittadic@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 15d

Oh wow thank you for taking that into consideration! I'll paint "thanks grant" into it next year!

mschae@discuss.mschae23.de · 2 pts · 15d

Ah, the mailing list is new. I was wondering why there weren't any posts on it yet.

khaleer@sopuli.xyz · 19 pts · 15d (1 reply)

NOOO AND I MISSED IT :'(

grant@toast.ooo · 16 pts · 15d

unfortunately :’(

There is now a mailing list so it doesn’t get lost in your feed; https://lists.sc07.com/postorius/lists/events-announcements.lists.sc07.com/

And the Matrix/Discord if that’s up your alley more

Hope to see you next year tho 😉

squirrel@cake.kobel.fyi · 19 pts · 15d (1 reply)

Thank you for all your work. The last years I thought you must be one of the graybearded fediwizards, judging by how well this event is run. But after watching your Fireside Fedi episode, I have to say it's nice to see that young people are building awesome stuff for the fediverse.

Thanks to everyone for your colorful pixels, participating in cursor dances and the minimal use of country flags. This was a lot of fun.

DmMacniel@feddit.org · 4 pts · 14d

I have to second this. The Fireside talk was a nice behind the scenes view and I appreciate Grant even more!

synapse1278@lemmy.world · 19 pts · 15d (4 replies)

This was super fun again!

Thanks to everyone who participated on the Home Arcade on the right side of the canvas! When I woke up on Sunday to see it completed, it felt like a miracle!

0ops@piefed.zip · 5 pts · 14d (3 replies)

I helped with the butt

Redjard@reddthat.com · 4 pts · 14d (1 reply)

You may have started the wave of poop vandalism with that

0ops@piefed.zip · 2 pts · 14d

Oh I must've missed that 😬 lol

synapse1278@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 14d

Can't resist caking it up, I see !

pineapplelover@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 16 pts · 14d

Never underestimate the power of a bunch of autists

irelephant@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 15 pts · 14d (2 replies)

It seems much more full this time

pineapplelover@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 4 pts · 14d

I remember placing a couple pixels on the first canvas event. That was a few years ago. What a ride this has been

Grail@multiverse.soulism.net · -1 pts · 14d

Yeah! At first I was disappointed to see not very much leftist stuff around. So after we finished Souly the Soulism Ball, I lead the antirealists and a few volunteers in constructing the WOKE ZONE with tons of leftist stuff!

Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 13 pts · 15d (5 replies)

Surprised there is no continuos german flag in the map.
At least our Mouse, Elephant and Duck are represented

DmMacniel@feddit.org · 12 pts · 15d

And for that I am very proud :)

Redjard@reddthat.com · 1 pts · 14d (3 replies)

Not the proudest year for germany.

DmMacniel@feddit.org · 2 pts · 14d (2 replies)

are you challenging us?

Redjard@reddthat.com · 3 pts · 14d (1 reply)

In the real world, not on canvas. I wouldn't wanna build a country flag where politicians are acting like that

DmMacniel@feddit.org · 2 pts · 14d

Oh yeah... and its just the second year... and after that who effing knows Q_Q

ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net · 12 pts · 15d

Thanks for running it, it was an absolute blast! :D

foxymochakitten@slrpnk.net · 12 pts · 14d

This was absolutely amazing, thank you so much to the organizers!! I can't wait for next year :D

green_copper@kbin.earth · 12 pts · 15d

This year was amazing again. I had fun pixeling our Furry corner and helping our friendly neighbors :) Some great art was created by everyone, I like the endresult.
Thank you for hosting this great event every year, we truly appreciate it.

And to the vandals from programming.dev and co: WHY?!

Snoopy@piefed.social · 11 pts · 15d

That was fun, thank you :3

reallykindasorta@slrpnk.net · 11 pts · 15d

That was a lot of fun, thanks!

Whats_your_reasoning@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 14d

This event was the most fun I’ve had in a while! I appreciate how respectful most contributors were of others’ artwork. It felt good to both contribute to others’ projects, and to see others contributing to things I started. It came out amazing! Looking forward to the next event!

DmMacniel@feddit.org · 10 pts · 15d

This was a great event just as always! Glad to be a part of it.

enchantedgoldapple@sopuli.xyz · 9 pts · 15d

Glad to see Old Man up there in the furry corner. It was my biggest project out of all the canvas events so far. I love how the surrounding art coexists with it, especially the flower at the top of the hat.

YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today · 9 pts · 15d

I hope my few purple pixels for the bass clef made it...

albbi@piefed.ca · 9 pts · 14d

The picture top right is just amazing. I love it so much.

Pandantic@midwest.social · 8 pts · 14d

I want to say thanks to grant and the mods for hosing this! It's so much fun to work together with everyone to cover as much canvas as possible and make such cool art.

SandwichesAreNice@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 15d

It was great fun.

snoons@lemmy.ca · 7 pts · 15d

My favourite is the christmas tree in the centre.

IPeaceInYourFace@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 15d

I did not expect to see toki pona in there.

SSETranquility@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 14d

So many hidden easter eggs! Great artwork :)

Montagge@lemmy.zip · 4 pts · 14d (1 reply)

Thanks again to @siv9939@lemmy.zip for designing the tribute to GeekFTW

siv9939@lemmy.zip · 4 pts · 14d

It was my pleasure to do something in honor of our fallen homie.

matelt@feddit.uk · 3 pts · 12d

I love the tiny little Algerian flags dotted around!

I did a heart in a seemingly empty corner (I've since been educated on templates) and a French flag that turned into a border. Oh and a Minecraft diamond helmet under the arcade player, and I wrote Feddit.uk and thanks for my fellow fedditors who came to the rescue and did the Union Jack and internet flags around it.

TheStaffmaster@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 13d (1 reply)

i love how this showed up in my lemmy.world feed, but the relevant links to contribute did not.

(/sarcasm if you couldn't tell.)

Deebster@infosec.pub · 2 pts · 13d

Of all the things on this, the one I'm most confused about is the Serious Sam logo.

artwork@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 13d

Seriously, I love it! ✨
From a quick glance, there's also ineffably magnificent Minecraft, Team Fortress 2 (TF2), Super Meat Boy, Mario, Among Us, Club Penguin...

TheNokMachine@furries.club · 2 pts · 15d (1 reply)

@grant We don't have enough France on it

matelt@feddit.uk · 1 pts · 12d

I did my best but I stepped on Germany's toes in the process :/
