This kind of shit was so common before the Internet. Encyclopedias would have completely wrong information or would cite just one source that was outdated.
you realize that's how printed media works, right?
if you read a book from 1960, it won't have any info from the past 60 years. what they do, is typically re-issue the book with the new info every 5-20 years, depending.
they are putting out new editions of books i read in college 20 years ago, that include updated citations and scholarship.
It isn't a big thing in the Southast U.S. I used to get reminded of it every time I flew into JFK or got a dollar slice somewhere in NYC. It seemed many of them used to have a fridge that was just Snapple or water, but it's been years since I've been up there. I doubt dollar slices even exist now : /
I see the teas and juices nearly everywhere in California. I regularly get the peach tea myself because it's way better than an Arizona Iced Tea. I mean, you can actually taste tea in Snapple.

A ton of Californians had unlisted numbers and didn't want to be revealed, or victims could be tracked by their abusers through caller ID, and privacy advocates said that people shouldn't have their number public without their consent.
but they couldn't figure out how to regulate it properly, so the issue was eventually dropped.
Coulda been worse. I heard about someone who as a kid put a really strong elastic band used to castrated bulls on their weiner. After being unable to pee they finally told their parents. The emergency room had trouble figuring out how to cut it off without causing damage... But they did successfully.
The main problem is that you use a tool to get the thing on, and then it constricts a LOT. You could think of it as such a tight ring that you would have a hard time seeing it around all the swollen flesh.
