I guess EA can get worse. Huh.

whoisearth@lemmy.ca · 21 pts · 14d (1 reply)

It's in the game

Dagnet@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 14d

Peak shittiness.

It's honestly fascinating

phoenixz@lemmy.ca · 7 pts · 14d (1 reply)

Its fascistnating

TaeKwonDoh@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 14d

Had to double-check that one.

Nice

phoenixz@lemmy.ca · 3 pts · 14d

You can always dig deeper

ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca · -2 pts · 13d

This is them getting better.

Jaysyn@lemmy.world · 41 pts · 14d

Good thing I'm already boycotting EA, because installing ring-0 "anticheat" Saudi software on a windows PC is pants on head stupid.

disorderly@lemmy.world · 33 pts · 14d (1 reply)

A match made in heaven.

Canconda@lemmy.ca · 4 pts · 14d

Had to do a report in buad on EA. Their entire business model is exactly 1 shade lighter than Martin Shkreli's

Leather@lemmy.world · 33 pts · 14d (6 replies)

Where is the bottom? How the fuck did EA get worse? This some dark magic, devide by zero, end of days level shift.

Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 14d (2 replies)

There is no bottom. They will always find new depths to sink to.

Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca · 3 pts · 13d (1 reply)

Who? EA, the Saudis or the other pathetic little fucker?

Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 13d

Yes.

glockenspiel@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 13d (1 reply)

The bottom comes when the sports game addicts run out of money and stop buying the same $70-$80 games every year before unloading hundreds into paid DLC that is non-transferable between the yearly versions (which have almost zero practical changes aside from roster updates and in-game ads/branding).

But a few decades have proven they are quite a resilient cohort and tough to crack.

Jax@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 12d

Is there a word for bigotry towards sports gamers? Cuz I've got it

ransomwarelettuce@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 14d

Yeah they got some good deals on NFS franchise, but then I though "wait this guys are absolute trash, I need an external client and game might not be even that good".

So Fuck EA, I will sail the high seas if I ever wanna play one of their games.

Quacksalber@sh.itjust.works · 29 pts · 14d (2 replies)

A sad day for Mass Effect. To think that, if the next installment is great, money goes to the butcher prince and nepotism incarnate. I really hope Kushner gets tried and convicted as as a traitor.

Dicska@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 12d (1 reply)

If the next instalment is great then I'll just say ahoy to many sails on the high seas.

Quacksalber@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 12d

I guess that is the only ethical way of consumption.

partial_accumen@lemmy.world · 24 pts · 14d

...as if I needed another reason to continue to boycott EA.

kingofras@lemmy.world · 20 pts · 14d (3 replies)

+1 to the dark horses inside EA who saw this coming and open sourced some of their classics before this, so the robber barrons couldn’t gate keep them.

terabyterex@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 14d (1 reply)

what was open sourced?

Jeffool@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 14d

They released the source code for many Command & Conquer games.

xan1242@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 12d

Man I wish they open sourced some more stuff, like their older NFS games...

But no joke, EA's open source stuff is really nice and one of the few genuinely good things about them. EASTL and related stuff is genuinely useful for game developers.

Tattorack@lemmy.world · 18 pts · 13d

Let me just add that to the pile of reasons to hate on EA. Yeah... The pile is pretty big, EA has been hateable for quite a long time.

saltesc@lemmy.world · 15 pts · 14d (6 replies)

No problem. Apart from WRC, I haven't touched an EA game in a long time, mainly because I just assume they're shit and don't even try. I really don't have any reason to think of them when browsing games.

SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca · 6 pts · 14d

They have been making shitty sports games on monopolized licences for too long, and sports fans just keep buying the same shit over and over.

ignotum@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 14d

Whenever i notice that an interesting game is published by EA i immediately lose all interest in it

Or rather that would happen if i had ever seen an interesting looking EA game

HereIAm@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 14d (3 replies)

At least they helped me out and made the decision to not support them in the case with Battlefield 6 and the new WRC by banning Linux 🤷

saltesc@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 13d (2 replies)

Oh, didn't know they did that with the new WRC. Which doesn't matter anyway because AC Rally 🤣

HereIAm@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 13d (1 reply)

Yeah, they killed support with introducing kernel level anti-cheat a couple of months after it was released. Really scummy move. I'm also really excited by the rally development in beam.ng :D

saltesc@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 13d

Yeah, that looks really fun. Doing proper full rally. I can't wait to rock up to the next stage having to explain to the crew that I crashed on the way 🤣

jtrek@startrek.website · 15 pts · 14d (4 replies)

I will continue not buying EA games. It's a shame they have some interesting franchises inside their corpse pile, but there's always other games and entertainments.

terabyterex@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 14d (3 replies)

i havent pirated a game in over 35 or 40 years. i did in the 80s when i had no money but in my adult life i bought. i had the money. there is no way i am giving this cohort money

Ohmmy@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 1 pts · 14d (2 replies)

In this hypothetical you'd have to want to play an EA game

tmyakal@infosec.pub · 2 pts · 13d (1 reply)

The Star Wars Jedi games they did were fun. If they ever make another one of those, I'll steal that!

Ohmmy@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 1 pts · 13d

I honestly can't remember what EA game I last played. I think the last one I was interested in was Anthem and that went poorly.

13igTyme@piefed.social · 8 pts · 14d

Oh no I'll have to just... Continue ignoring and not buying from EA.

Triumph@fedia.io · 7 pts · 14d

Just when you thought there was no way EA could suck more.

SocialMediaRefugee@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 14d (2 replies)

Anything connected to that wanne-be king can go get f'd.

GreenKnight23@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 14d

fuck'd

see. we're all adults here. it's ok to say "fuck".

Olhonestjim@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 13d

Rumor is Kushner is the new Epstein.

Strider@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 14d

The final destination.

neidu3@sh.itjust.works · 4 pts · 14d

Jared is owned by Donald who is in turn owned by the Saudis, so that makes EA 100% property of KSA

demizerone@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 13d (1 reply)

I've haven't bought an ea game since battlefield 1.

samus12345@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 12d

I had to check, the last EA game I paid for was Mass Effect Legendary Edition in 2021. It will likely also be the last simply because they won't be releasing anything I want to play.

gibmiser@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 14d

I loved getting free games from them, but when this was first announced it was just too goddamn much. I will not use a game platform owned by fucking Saudi Arabia

Doom@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 14d

It wasn't already?

Jiral@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 12d

It is an achievement for a video games company to play in the league of worst companies when the competition are AI grifters, arms producers and legal opioid producers. Finally there is an ownership structure to match.

spicehoarder@lemmy.zip · 2 pts · 12d

Maybe they'll start selling off IPs and we'll see some good shit once again form more competent games studios.

Widukin@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 1 pts · 13d (1 reply)

Just to make sure, this affects Battlefront 2 as well?

ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca · 1 pts · 13d

Technically but EA had been hands off.

spicehoarder@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 12d

Good thing EA doesn't make games anymore.

daychilde@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 13d (2 replies)

And yet you cared enough to comment.

Sektor@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 12d (1 reply)

Yes. You gamers whine about shitty practices publishers do, just to buy the game day one. Maybe my comment encourages someone to not buy next storefront wrapped in a grindy fame.

daychilde@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 12d

You gamers
