Leaders and political groups from around the world seem hell bent on choices that don't make any sense. Even if you take into account stupidity, greed, narcissism, religion, rascim, hate, ect. there are constantly things happening that don't fit.
If inst, you reframe the shit being done with the thought that while none of them may agree on a final destination, they all agree that a fast drop in population is the "fast and easy" solution, then suddenly it all starts to make a lot more sense. Then everything going on is a rush to secure power and position in the post apocalypse world. And things like antivax become their own filtering mechanism to self-select stupid people out of the gene pool.
Unfortunately, once you begin thinking about things with that mind set, then it also becomes really difficult not to see COVID as a test of the system, or at least the tipping point that pushed everything into high gear.

Obviously, I used Thanos as a shorthand in the title. So, I wasn't actually thinking that it was going to be a 1 to 1 translation of his plan... Of course he also wipes out the dwarves that made the gauntlet, and really does a number on the Asgardians. So, I am not sure you can claim that he was 100% "fair".

It's always this.
I remember some post from years ago by a person saying that Elon Musk seems like a genius up until he starts talking about something you're familiar with.
Thanks to the Internet, I think it's gotten both more difficult to hide your own stupidity unless you're careful with your tracks (the power-hungry often aren't) and easier to absolutely flood the discourse so that your inferior cognitive abilities are either lost or overshadowed by something else (like Trump doing everything he, unfortunately somewhat successfully, to keep people busy talking and thinking about so much more other than his ties with Epstein).
And it keeps showing with the political and corporate leaders. The smarter ones from the latter, unfortunately, mostly seem to be psychopaths and/or sociopaths, very keen on leading the former where they need them (currently supporting AI and preparing the bailout, curbing the competition before, probably staring jaw-dropped at the news of "AI going rogue" and how can be the end of humanity and all).
Imma beat the dead horse and say that out of all dystopias, Idiocracy (2006) turned out to be the most accurate.

He seems like a moron even when he's talking about things I know nothing about. There's a video on youtube of him giving a tour of SpaceX's museum of past rockets that they've launched, and he's talking about how they've reduced the "fiddly bits" on the outside of the rockets over the years.

It's entirely possible to be evil and stupid, but insulated from your mistakes by money. The education and environment of the rich is highly conducive to socio/psychopathy, and selects strongly for it.

IME you should add "and laziness." to that sentence.
It's quite useful for getting what you want really. Make not doing what you want more effort. Most people are too lazy or tired to not give in for unimportant stuff.
Eg. when being stopped by the police, take your time finding your driving license. Chances are they'll get bored and let you go on your way before you've found it.

Well there really are elites who engineer structures where they will always be on top even at the expense of others. For example, the sovereigns of the eastern european countries deliberately curtailed the industrial revolution and rail, because they thought it would bring a social revolution in which they will be overthrown.

They'd rather be the most power in a world of fewer people than sacrifice to save them. With AI adoption potentially enabling them to retain functionality at scale, with far fewer workers, they have even less incentive to sacrifice.

I use it everyday for work. It isn't a scam. Not all the promises will come true but it absolutely is and will displace workforces across information and analysis heavy roles. Its also very likely to see AI become a standard new interface for computer systems, whether we want it or not.

Why do you think they're pushing for AI? They know the other people in their bunkers will revolt. They'll either use AI to replace people or settle for Musk's human-controlled robots so us poors can live far away while still acting like slaves.

Thanos used a statistical process for extermination outcomes. The ruling class tends to agree with Oil oligarchy because the latter helps keep them as the ruling class. Food scarcity deaths don't apply to a random statistical selection. It is poverty/national poverty based. Flood/wind damage repair/insurance is actually a significant wealth drain for highest property value markets, but Oil oligarchy disinformation will always make for the best friend of ruling class. Weapons and Zionism can team up for war policy.
The worse the country, people's lives, misery, anger get, the less focused any political debate is on improving lives/future, and simply on replacing the previous administration causing misery/anger.

The perception of viability of the "Thanos solution" (snap your fingers and a literal random half of every population ceases to exist) depends almost entirely on which side of the snap you find yourself on. Those for are banking on their survival. They don't care about yours.
There are, of course, a few who do want to be eliminated by the snap. They don't want to be in the resulting world, and death by snap is completely painless by any account. You simply cease to be. The only issue is you see it coming, so you have a moment to reflect. But nobody seemed to suffer for it. Just the ones who were left mourned the lost.
There's also the proposition made by The Leftovers (a TV show on HBO), that if you remove just 3% of the population, the world changes drastically. However, in that scenario, it was only on Earth, and it was only humans and, IIRC... birds? Every other population was not culled at all.

I love this response. It’s asking people to constantly save every aspect of their plotting. As if we are all journalists, too. When no one has that you feel justified. As if you can’t listen to them say it then watch their actions that prove they mean it.
