Let’s let him be president for life, as long as that life is less than four more years. Anything beyond that has a “second amendment solution”, as I’ve heard countless Republicans describe.

psmgx@lemmy.world · 25 pts · 1y

as I’ve heard countless Republicans describe

99% of whom are fucking chicken hawks.

The only ones who put their money where their mouths are got arrested for occupying BLM land in Oregon, or later, Congress.

9point6@lemmy.world · 95 pts · 1y

I mean, it's pretty obvious to anyone paying attention.

He wants to be America's Putin

OutlierBlue@lemmy.ca · 89 pts · 1y (4 replies)

Was it not already clear last time when he encouraged his followers to launch an insurrection when he lost?! How much fucking warning do you need?

CosmicTurtle0@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 31 pts · 1y (3 replies)

The insurrection happened because conservatives saw that they couldn't win democratically.

This time they did, with the help of voter suppression.

baronvonj@lemmy.world · 15 pts · 1y

.. win democratically. This time they did, with the help of voter suppression.

So, they didn't.

nickwitha_k@lemmy.sdf.org · 11 pts · 1y (1 reply)

with the help of voter suppression.

And amplification of the anti-electoralist/accelerationist cult's propaganda.

ubergeek@lemmy.today · 3 pts · 1y

And with the help of the other right wing party, by putting forth a candidate who insisted everything is fine, even when it isn't.

UnexpectedBehavior@lemmy.world · 81 pts · 1y (5 replies)

By dying within three years?

meeeeetch@lemmy.world · 43 pts · 1y (2 replies)

He scrapped USAID. The CIA is gonna take that a lot more personally than 'he didn't escalate our harebrained scheme in Cuba to a full war'.

cmbabul@lemmy.world · 32 pts · 1y

I really really really hope you’re right

Jumpingspiderman@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 1y

Were the CIA to effective take steps to defend American democracy from authoritarianism they could almost be forgiven for all their other fuckery.

jared@mander.xyz · 7 pts · 1y

🤞

That.... can be arranged

joyjoy@lemm.ee · 45 pts · 1y

Give a man a fire, he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.

I was called out (on Reddit) for pointing out how insanely dangerous this comment was in 2018.

Trump also praised China’s President Xi Jinping for recently consolidating power and extending his potential tenure, musing he wouldn’t mind making such a maneuver himself. “He’s now president for life. President for life. No, he’s great,” Trump said. “And look, he was able to do that. I think it’s great. Maybe we’ll have to give that a shot some day.”

nutsack@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 11 pts · 1y (1 reply)

this is some annoying meta-irony thing that a politician should not be doing, because it is very difficult to discern a position from it. you have to take him both literally and sarcastically at the same time, which is about as useful as ignoring him. nobody has a clue what's going on when he talks

KeenFlame@feddit.nu · 3 pts · 1y

It's senile ramblings and when he rambles on his deathbed who to kill next even then the sycophants around him will follow it as a message from the 6d gods playing chess against the enemy.

Jumpingspiderman@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 1y

“On Reddit”? There’s your problem.

psyklax@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 35 pts · 1y (1 reply)

"President for life"

monkey's paw moment.

GraniteM@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 1y

"I declare myself President for life!"

"So you're saying there's exactly one very particular way for us to make you not be President anymore...?"

"Uh..."

ExtremeDullard@lemmy.sdf.org · 34 pts · 1y (7 replies)

Luckily, Trump's built-in termination date isn't too far away and will limit the damage.

We can certainly hope, but evil people have a way of clinging to life in ways that seem almost unnatural. Dick Cheney is still alive for god's sake.

dhork@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 1y

I call that "God's Ultimate Veto"

Scott_of_the_Arctic@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 1y (2 replies)

Vance is the dangerous one. Trumps only purpose was to get Vance onto the throne. Peter Thiel will likely have him whacked and blame it on the radical left so Vance can use martial law to further dismantle Americas democratic institutions.

Chocrates@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Peter Thiel likes money, i still find it hard to believe billionaires are ride or die like the Nazis.

Scott_of_the_Arctic@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y

He's still part of a weird Catholic sect. The Nazis think they are manipulating the fundamentalists to do their bidding, but really it's the other way round. Just wait and see.

Jumpingspiderman@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y

Spaniards said much the same about Franco and that little fucker stuck around seemingly forever.

KulunkelBoom@lemm.ee · 31 pts · 1y

With any luck he'll only live a couple more days.

NewDay@lemmy.world · 26 pts · 1y (3 replies)

Where is Luigi? We need him more than ever.

LodeMike@lemmy.today · 7 pts · 1y (1 reply)

A New York jail of some kind.

Scott_of_the_Arctic@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 1y

You know if you got a few thousand like minded people, you could change that.

RampantParanoia2365@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 1y

In another castle.

RizzoTheSmall@lemm.ee · 22 pts · 1y

I'd also like him to drop dead. It seems our goals are singularly aligned.

arotrios@lemmy.world · 22 pts · 1y (1 reply)

And to think, just one bullet could make his dreams come true.

ininewcrow@lemmy.ca · 8 pts · 1y

Knowing American history .... they only reserve bullets for the good ones

Xanza@lemm.ee · 20 pts · 1y (7 replies)

Gonna be a short life if he tries.... lol.

Empricorn@feddit.nl · 19 pts · 1y (6 replies)

I hope you're right, but we can't even get our fellow citizens to vote against fascism. Now some are expecting these same people to protest, engage in economic boycotts, risk their livelihoods by staying home from their jobs, and more!?

Xanza@lemm.ee · 15 pts · 1y (2 replies)

His own guys tried to shoot him already. Twice. If he tries to outright break the constitution? Won't take long.

shani66@ani.social · 10 pts · 1y

And he's out right attacking the agencies that would prevent such a righteous act as well, so i imagine the odds of success are only going to go up.

DadVolante@sh.itjust.works · 0 pts · 1y

Funny you think those were legitimate attempts.

ubergeek@lemmy.today · -2 pts · 1y (2 replies)

I mean, I can't fault anyone who chose to sit out this election... they were offered 0 good choices.

MisterLister@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y (1 reply)

I can... We were offered outright fascism or a continuation of slow decay. At least the slower option gave us much-needed time for positive change

ubergeek@lemmy.today · 0 pts · 1y

I dunno, I'd rather rip the bandaid off, because keep going down the "slow decay" route just means we kept strengthening the machine that is bringing us fascism, making it a more solidly in place system...

But you're right: Fast descent to fascism, or slow descent. But, a fascist was the only options presented.

meowmeowbeanz@sopuli.xyz · 20 pts · 1y

When 'jokes' align with actions, they stop being jokes—this is a blueprint for authoritarianism. Well-supported claims and critical analysis.

Kazumara@discuss.tchncs.de · 19 pts · 1y

Personally I hope he doesn't even finish two full terms.

Scott_of_the_Arctic@lemmy.world · 17 pts · 1y

Realistically, his life probably won't last until the end of his term. It's vance's theocratic dictatorship you need to watch out for.

pyre@lemmy.world · 15 pts · 1y

I hope someone helps him fulfill that wish immediately.

lipilee@feddit.nl · 13 pts · 1y (2 replies)

...by eating mcds and drinking coke every day. He'll catch that burger from the sky in 2-3 years.

JigglySackles@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 1y

Not likely. Fucker is going to be 100 out of spite and being filthy rich

Jax@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 1y

Nah he's just planting trees for future generations to sit under.

Can't have Barron end up anywhere other than King, right?

prettybunnys@sh.itjust.works · 13 pts · 1y (1 reply)

My dudes, this pacifist in the USA with active background investigations will happily say I’d die defending my country against this outcome.

SuperCub@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 1y

Yeah I'm pretty sure a majority of Americans would pick up guns for that.

Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works · 10 pts · 1y

I think you meant to type Emperor For Life

SlothMama@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 1y

Whose life? He can't possibly live that much longer tbh

HexesofVexes@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 1y

The fastest way to do that is leave him in a room with Luigi ^_^

hopesdead@startrek.website · 9 pts · 1y (1 reply)

I’m pretty sure he’s made comments that suggest he would try to eliminate elections.

Chocrates@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 1y

He is in charge of the FEC now.

dQw4w9WgXcQ@lemm.ee · 4 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Even if he doesn't live through his term, the action of evading term limits will surely have much longer impact as it opens new doors for dictators.

Landless2029@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y

Best case scenario he finishes his prep to abolish term limits and fails to kill elections.

Then we get Obama/Waltz 2028.

Korhaka@sopuli.xyz · 3 pts · 1y

Hopefully not very long then.

Yerbouti@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 1y

Duh

werefreeatlast@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y

But hopefully he waits until the 4 years term is done. I gotta agree with the other guy who pointed out that vans is basically a nazi but unlike trump, vans would probably not care about "coming out" and doing what nazis do.
