DNC types get super cagey when you admit that Bill Clinton is a serial adulterer who was in an extreme power imbalance relationship with a woman in her 20's.
I'm glad the party is willingly offering him up as a sacrifice to the republicans to get keep the Epstein probe going. Every time the GOP tries a burying tactic, they truss Bill up like a suckling pig, and I'm fine with that. Dude is and was a creep.
Yea it's called consent. Not every power imbalance is automatically coercive. Society should be punished for being such prudes... they'd probably find they like it.
She was a grown ass woman dude. This whole gen-z infantilization of 20 something year olds is ridiculous.
Like do you seriously not understand that women also find men attractive? /s
If she came out and said it was non consensual than colour me incorrect. Otherwise you're just being a prude like the rest of society that did the actual harm in this situation.
And you call people who call out DRASTIC POWER DYNAMICS as prudes. Dude. Do you remember being 20-22? You know she JUST got the right to drink, right? Even if there was a personal interest in Bill Clinton sexually, the dynamic makes any sexual contact inappropriate while he's her boss. Don't tell me you think all those stories of 20-something secretaries sleeping with their boss were all consensual love affairs?
It's suspicious when someone has strong opinions about consent laws. But not as suspicious as someone who'd white-knight fucking Bill Clinton because, wait for it, their concern for young adults being treated with respect.
That math doesn't add up friend. Who do you think your fooling?
lmao you sound like every time a 22 year old ever had sexual relations with a 49 year old you lost a neuron. And I don't feel bad for calling you out as stupid cuz you are grasping way harder to paint me as a predator.
Yeah, it took me a second to realize this was another juvenile joke at her expense to make fun of Bill Clinton who has committed a whole series of much worse offenses you can take aim at without involving a woman who already got the sharp end of the media stick for far too long.
Why should he be punished? Nothing either one of them did was illegal. It was consensual private behavior that none of us should ever have heard about.
I think it's alright to hold both of them accountable for infidelity in a social sense. Clinton being the more responsible as the man in the marriage, but Monica knew he was married. I can't see a moral argument to not hold her accountable for this as well (again, socially, not legally). They were both adults. I don't think the age difference or power dynamic lets either of them off of the hook, even though it would make the then-President comparatively more in the wrong.
I think it's more alright to have punished Clinton for lying (under oath, right?). Even if I don't think it made sense to ask him about sexual relations, he still lied about it. I don't think there's any legal issue with what Monica did.
I'm glad she's speaking up against bullying nowadays.
I didn't follow each update on this situation while it was going on, so if you think I missed an important point that would change my mind, I'm open to considering it.
You are missing the point where a man with the most powerful position on the planet, more than twice the woman's age, made her feel special by the attention that he gave her at 22 years of age. The human brain is not fully matured until at least 25.
Having that big of a power difference and age difference is huge.
And you missed the point where he broke his promise to his wife and she broke no promise. You don't know what bill told her what his deal with Hillary was. So why judge her for a crime that she didn't commit?
Edit: I forgot to mention, as the fucking president of a country, he has the responsibility to be a role model. He should display his good "christian" morals and not break the 10 commandments.
It's fair to say that Clinton wasn't a good role model and broke his oath to his wife (so long as they weren't in an open relationship, which I doubt they were).
Concerning the age difference: I think this is where we have a disagreement. Even if the brain is still developing at 22, a 22 year old is an adult. If you make a bad decision as an adult, I don't think the excuse that your brain is still developing holds. Monica isn't being judged for a crime (at least as far as DC law goes), but she's being socially judged for being with a married man sexually, which we know is wrong in our culture.
The issue here is that on Monica's side the punishment was disproportionate. She isn't some rich, powerful person who could withdraw to her ivory tower. She was 22 and made the kind of mistake 22 year olds make and that is what she gets to be known for forever. Think about a 22 year old in your life and the resources they have at their disposal. She went back to her parents place, buried herself away from the world and tried not to commit suicide as all of media took turns making jokes about her being an easy slut. Her day to day life for decades was virtually destroyed with her being barely able to form a career or new relationships. She stopped being a person and endured a prison without a cage.
Clinton got a formalized process and quietly withdrew into absurd wealth while the media by turns gave him largely a pass for being a dog once the process of getting him out of office was done.
Whatever Gods or Devils punished Lewinski they've exacted their due ages ago and kicking people who have already hit the floor hard isn't morally healthy. Nobody needs to continue to hold Lewinski accountable anymore. She served her time.
Combine that with the fact that someone commiting adultery should be disqualifying for them becoming president.
Look, I get that all the social norms have been completely ground to dust, but character does in fact matter. We should want a good person who refuses to cheat on their wife as a leader.
Reducing this to just a fun fling because you like the guy is the same thing the hypocrites who support Trump and all of his scandals do.
If he's willing to betray his wife for a quicky from an intern, why would I trust him with anything else? For the person who's leading the entire nation the bar should be higher.
Also not to mention that he was 49 and she was 22. If this was anyone less "likeable" than Bill we'd all be calling him an absolute creep. He was pushing 50, and she could barely drink. And he was her boss.
Partially. It was really "Republicans went digging for some dirt and he lied about fucking his secretary during a deposition, so let's fuck him up over it". It then became about bashing Monica cause misogyny.
Yeah. The whole reason the Amanda Knox series happened is because Monika Lewinsky has been starting this documentary series where she tries to help victims in situations where publicity ruined their image and give them a chance to tell their story.
She could not give full consent given the power imbalance. She does regret her role. Please consider looking into how she has reframed her experience since the #metoo movement.
You know what is incredibly miserable? When Clinton became president he was the first baby boomer president. And since then, save for Obama, all presidents were born roughly around the same time.
Bill Clinton is almost the same age as Trump. Both were born in 1946. They were born months apart.
The youngest Boomer is 61. There are plenty of 61-year-olds I'd vote for, and older. For instance, I'd still vote for Bernie--just get him in office, it doesn't matter how long he lives. Conversely, there are plenty of under-40-year-olds I would not vote for. The problem has nothing to do with age. There are a lot of 20-something MAGAs.
BTW. Before Clinton, from Eisenhower to Bush Sr. The presidents were all WW2 veterans to some degree. Eisenhower was a general, Kennedy was a PT Boat skipper, and Reagan was in a non-combat role primarily acting in training films. Bush Sr. Was a naval aviator.

When we talk about “presidential conduct,” we usually mean dignity and leadership. We don’t usually talk about the all-night ragers, blackmail schemes, and drug-induced decisions made in very important meetings! But maybe we should talk about all of that.[...] It’s a lot wilder than anything you learned in history class, and the scariest part is, it’s all true.
Fun fact, Tom Green had Monica Lewinsky on his show back in 2000. Tom Green was one of the few comedians who doesn't make fun of Monica Lewinsky. The whole episode is a Tom Green certified adventure involving Monica Lewinsky; she goes along with all the wacky hi-jinks from trolling the media to having light saber battle in Tim Hortons.
SA* funny. I don't care that she fell in love with him. The power dynamic is as strong as it possibly can be outside of parenthood.
Lewinsky went through so much sustained bullying and harassment by the entire world in her twenties, it's incredible she's still alive honestly. And now she's an activist. Can't respect her more.
Bill Clinton, president from 92-2000, famously had an affair with white house intern Monica Lewinsky which included her performing oral sex on him in the oval office. The joke is that Lewinsky is under the desk.
