Revolution is a group project and I hate group projects

PugJesus@piefed.social · 24 pts · 289d (6 replies)

Not the good kind of group project, where the others fuck off and let you handle everything. The bad kind of group project, where everyone wants their input to be validated as super-special and important even if it ruins the entire endeavor.

rumschlumpel@feddit.org · 12 pts · 289d (4 replies)

I need to kill the other group members so my ideology rises to the top!

PugJesus@piefed.social · 19 pts · 289d (2 replies)

Turns out there are so many group members that that becomes a group project too.

It's group projects all the way down

You can just watch them act like the right extremist but they can't see it... It's like they don't even know what they are saying and they just go on emotional rampages.

I found out I'm apparently a Republican terrorist because I think it would theoretically be good to have a gun if a civil war started.

I got comments telling me I'm mentally ill and need help, haha. And that I was calling action to violence. ...for simply stating I think it would be useful to have a weapon during a war.

Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 289d

Exactly. If I could just do the revolution it would be done by now. But noooo, we need to hear everybody and agree on everything even Jeff’s stupid idea that somehow got popular.

I think it's something bigger. And a part of both sides. I think a lot of people haven't seen life without their privileges and so they don't actually know what the true reality of life is beyond their microcosms and marketed media. And until it can be admitted what reality is, which is a depressing and surreal task because reality is very dark, chaotic, and unfair, then no true honest change for humanity will come to fruition. There's people that live outside of all nations rules and they basically own the planet. We aren't playing by the same rules as the people that own us. These people use nations as tools, like the way inside a nation areas will be bought and sold regardless of how it affects the people... Gentrification... Etc..

I think people need to understand the state of humanity is far far darker than America's situation. America's situation is just a symptom of a greater problem and that problem doesn't get fixed with politics. It seems it's more as if organized crime owns the path of humanity. Both sides seem to be doing exactly what they want for them to do and all reactions can be beneficial for the criminals even when it looks like progress was made.

There are many factions of change. The politicians, protestors, workers.... It comes down to changing our own microcosms. The first thing I think people should do is stop spending money on American industries, especially things that are extra in life, like mass pop entertainment and going out to eat or fashion. Otherwise it's like one is paying the beast to hurt them. Many people aren't ready to lose their privilege and make that sacrifice.

Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world · -2 pts · 288d

I just don’t like people.

MotoAsh@piefed.social · 43 pts · 289d (19 replies)

How does organizing start? It's not by people politely discussing things and making a cordial agreement to go against their own freaking government... People need to be fired up enough to want to act in such dangerous ways in the first place.

I'd bet people saying to, "grab your guns" aren't flippantly saying, "yea, go march out in to the streets by yourself and start popping off at things you don't like!" They're making a general plea for people to get ready for such actual, real world organizing and effort.

This kind of flippant dismissal does less than nothing to help people organize.

You must be pretty new to Lemmy.

MotoAsh@piefed.social · -11 pts · 289d (5 replies)

You must be pretty new to the internet if you're taking what they say literally. They want you to be upset enough to do it, not to literally do it this second.

At least the non-trolls, which again... Welcome to the internet.

agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.works · 10 pts · 289d (4 replies)

I've been online since before duckroll. I know trolling when I see it, and I know malformed idealism when I see it. I'm referring to the latter.

MotoAsh@piefed.social · -9 pts · 289d (3 replies)

Then it's pretty sad you cannot tell the difference between trolls, people expressing how upset they are, and serious discussion.

Sadly I know plenty of tankies who do literally meant that, and get disappointed when people don't.

Heck the Socialist Party of the USA Chapter I was in was lead by a guy who called Bernie Sanders a phony because he, get this, did not advocate for violence against the police.. He was completely serious to and basically told everyone we were fake leftists if we voted for him in the primaries.

Guy was an absolute clown, he kicked me out when I refused to support a transphobic green party candidate who advocated for curing autism with crystals. See cause "Crystals" are "Chinese Medicine", and "China's literally incapable of doing anything wrong."

Because that makes sense

MotoAsh@piefed.social · 7 pts · 289d

unionize

PugJesus@piefed.social · 18 pts · 289d (5 replies)

God, unions serve such vital functions. I didn't appreciate just how fucked things were when I read about the decline of unions when I was young. When I got older and interested in revolutionary history, it really highlights how even simple coordination between workers enables so much more than just negotiation with an employer or industry.

Lots of, uh, interesting comments here. My 2-cents worth of advice:

  1. Be highly suspicious of arguments that are essentially punching down on workers, all Americans, common people being lazy, stupid, etc. It's class warfare (always has been) and the enemy are the oligarchs, not your fellow working class people.

  2. Calls to violence this early are pathetic. The non-violent activism is working and it's only just barely even started. Calls to violence are from meatheads with zero patience (and likely zero understanding of how horrible that outcome will be for everyone involved).

Bosht@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 288d

Plus on your number 2 point: a LOT of the meathead types are just keyboard warriors with testosterone hard-ons trying to act like mister badass like it's a flex. The crew of 'Oh I wish they would try this shit at my house' and the like, as if they aren't some dude that would get absolutely put in the ground in 4 seconds or become a free loot drop if shit did pop off.

RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 288d

The #2 will stay behind their keyboards when TSHTF and then smugly criticize whatever failures of the actions, peaceful or violent, of those who actually took the risk and effort.

Arming yourself and organizing are both good. You probably don't have to wait until you've found people to organize with before arming yourself in the US. It's good to have a way to defend your home during a Nazi uprising

shalafi@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 288d

Watch some protest videos where the left is armed. Suddenly the police just want everyone to get along peacefully and the civilian fascists STFU.

Guns are not only for killing, they are a deterrent.

I don't think leftists are telling you to revolt before organizing. That doesn't make any damn sense. The organizing part is prep for revolution when it finally happens. No communist is telling you to take adventurist action.

agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.works · 0 pts · 289d (28 replies)

Ah yes, No True Communist. There must be an awful lot of people pretending to be communists on Lemmy then.

sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml · 10 pts · 289d (27 replies)

Look I spend a lot of time with hexbears, they are the most vocal communists on lemmy and none of them are saying this. Perhaps you have simply misunderstood them. I've literally never seen anyone suggest we are ready for revolution and should do one right now in a serious manner.

agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.works · -2 pts · 289d (26 replies)

If you just assume no one saying that is being serious, then I see why you might feel that way.

sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml · 6 pts · 289d (16 replies)

Have you ever spoke with them in good faith and asked what they mean and if they seriously believe revolution is possible under the current material conditions of the US empire? I am sure you can find someone who might say yes to this but it is in no way close to the consensus. I've personally never encountered it

agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 289d (15 replies)

Yes, multiple times. My post did not suggest it was the consensus.

sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml · 4 pts · 289d (14 replies)

It certainly depicts it as a norm which is where I found disagreement and honestly anyone advocating for that should be talked to and educated instead of shamed through vague posting.

agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.works · -1 pts · 289d

Not really? It just says "the leftists I met online", that's a sample not consensus

And I've tried talking and educating, you can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into. And this post isn't for them, it's for the Calvins out there.

That was a Texas republican that wanted Texas to secede, not a bernie bro or a Russian. He just heard somebody say you can't be a superpower without a warm water port and thought that meant Texas is a superpower because it's warm in Galveston.

As Americans our taxes pay for killing and we kill children. So I don't understand why people aren't boycotting America as a whole.

It is as if we Americans are the bad guys but no one wants to admit it and that the left and right battling is a marketed psychological path created to keep people busy from realizing this is the truth.

Maybe there's something greater to focus on than the traditions that have kept the certain people in power. And maybe America, or even other 1st nations, aren't a part of the other side of this rainbow so to speak.

They've "declared war" on Lemmy because they got banned too much and they took it personally.
