Alternate headline: Bannon tells GOP they've been doing just an absolute fuckton of crimes.

FenrirIII@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 280d

Crimes which current democrats will ignore in the name of making peace.

ShellMonkey@piefed.socdojo.com · 114 pts · 281d

Maybe if you didn't do a bunch of blatently illegal/immoral shit that could solve the whole prison issue too?

Prison? I was hoping for public executions

Sunflier@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 281d (2 replies)

Me too. The catharis from seeing the moment of shock and fear just as the guillotine's blade touches the skin on their neck will make all of this worth it.

I was hoping more for a Mussolini style upside down hanging in public where anyone who wishes to can desecrate their corpses.

That's a coup right? That sounds a LOT like a coup.

derry@midwest.social · 30 pts · 281d

It's only a coup if it happens in the coup region of the world. Otherwise it's just sparkling facism

finitebanjo@lemmy.world · 17 pts · 281d (2 replies)

It's technically not a coup since the US Citizens voted them into power in order to do this.

HotsauceHurricane@lemmy.world · 16 pts · 281d

Ahh. Just hitler vibes then.

DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social · 12 pts · 281d

You can coup democratic rule. The rulers of America, in the theory of republican liberalism, being the voters (though you could also laugh at that assertion it has theoretical principles on its side if not reality)

blattrules@lemmy.world · 70 pts · 281d (3 replies)

If you have to change the way the country works so you don’t go to prison, you should already be there.

Tryenjer@lemmy.world · 24 pts · 281d (2 replies)

The guy is admitting to planning a coup; he's a terrorist.

Todd_cross@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 11 pts · 281d

Technically that's treason, so he's a traitor (unless you're saying he's that and a terrorist, in which case nevermind)

FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca · 5 pts · 281d

Don’t threaten us with a good time, Steve.

infinitesunrise@slrpnk.net · 49 pts · 281d (12 replies)

Don't worry Bannon, Democrat leadership doesn't exactly have the best track record of holding criminals and actual enemies of the people accountable for their crimes.

overthere@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 14 pts · 281d (2 replies)

Exactly. I’ll eat my hat if any of the key people gave any consequences at all when all this is over. It will be all, “we have to look forward, not backward.” I wouldn’t be shocked if an elected Democratic president pardoned Trump and his goons so that we can “heal as a nation.”

asRomeBurns1979@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 280d (1 reply)

Garland’s understandable desire to appear a-political in the Jan 6th and Trump cases will be a stick the left use to beat the moderates in the Democrat party for decades, and rightly so.

If Garland hadn’t wasted 15 months working from the bottom (rioters) up Trump would probably be in prison now. I think he was well intentioned but didn’t have the bottle to be the guy who put the wheels in motion for banging up a President.

drhodl@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 280d

He was a republican, and that's why he dragged his feet for 4 years. It was either too hard for him, or he was one of them all along. In either case, a complete fail of a man, who deserves all the contempt and loathing that I have for him. Garland is the reason we have Donny 2 Inches as president, and not in jail where he actually belongs. History should have Garland right up there with Benedict Arnold.

BigBenis@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 280d

We're going to have to demand they do. When the time comes, we cannot let it go. We must insist these people face justice. Be as annoying about it as we are about the Epstein files.

FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca · 0 pts · 281d (7 replies)

The only good outcome is a revolution and starting the Untied States over from scratch

Tryenjer@lemmy.world · 0 pts · 280d (6 replies)

No revolution, but you really need reforms to the power structure and the way elections work. Starting with the current division of presidential power between a Prime Minister (or Chancellor) and a President. If you already had this separation of powers, you would never have been paralysed the way you are now; if representatives failed to reach an agreement to approve the 2026 federal budget proposed by the prime minister, the president would simply dismiss the government and call for new elections.

FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca · 0 pts · 280d (5 replies)

Who's "you"? I'm Canadian

prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 1 pts · 280d

Right, so it's easy for you to suggest complete destruction of the United States.

Tryenjer@lemmy.world · 0 pts · 280d (3 replies)

Ah, it's really easy to wish for the destruction of other people's countries.

drhodl@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 280d (2 replies)

The Donny 2 Inches government is fucking the entire world, mate. The whole world wishes this destruction on you, at this time. Elect better people, stop being run by and for criminals, and stop fucking over other countries and their people, maybe?

manxu@piefed.social · 45 pts · 281d

The core message seems to be: since Trump is doing everything by executive order, the next time a Democrat holds the office of the presidency, ALL of it will be undone. And some of it, in his view, will be declared illegal in the first place. Like, I don't know, the DOGE takeover early in the year. Or the imprisonment of citizens and legal immigrants because racism.

Biden didn't do any of it. He didn't even push for the Trump tax cuts from 2017 to be undone, which was insane. I sense that's part of the reason Harris lost in 2024, and it seems that the Democrats of 2025 are starting to smell the wind of change. Because the country and the voters forced them to.

I was horrified in 2022 when both Biden and Yellen went on the record stating they believed the high inflation was just temporary and not a larger concern. This time around it's Trump telling America prices are down and the economy is booming.

Doomsider@lemmy.world · 42 pts · 281d

You mean the people who betrayed America and let hundred of thousand of Americans needlessly die in the pandemic?

Then cut aid to foreign governments so they could bail out their authoritarian friends causing hundreds of thousands more people around the world to die needlessly?

Dragomus@lemmy.world · 33 pts · 281d (3 replies)

When by a miracle the upcoming 2026 voting fraud and roadblocks will be undone, and 2028's election is fair and brings a FULL landslide democratic win.

Then the Democrats must go full in on a blaze of justice and condemn everyone in the current administration, including local government, think-tanks and anyone who enriched themselves unfairly, as conspirators in an evil coup to convict them with the highest penalties.

If they do not ... the country will be lost in a prolonged smouldering fire of fascism.

A "national pardon" to keep the balance is not a proper solution to this.

But, read what I started with and you'll see there are enormous hurdles to overcome, I am not convinced the current administration will let any of it happen.

The king in all but name is already here, and 2028 will likely have seen the crowning ceremony.

crusa187@lemmy.ml · 14 pts · 281d (1 reply)

This would literally be a miracle.

I expect we go straight to “only look forward, not backwards.” Let’s face it, there are a lot of establishment dems in those Epstein files too whom they’d rather not prosecute.

Both parties need to be discarded if regular Americans are to have any hope. Get rid of the donor-run uniparty, banish first past the post, disband the electoral college, and restore the fairness doctrine for news media broadcast license eligibility, and maybe

zbyte64@awful.systems · 9 pts · 281d

FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca · 2 pts · 281d

b161@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 30 pts · 281d

These people have been gleefully plotting to form hunting parties to track and murder minorities and anyone who’s against their agenda. Prison would be too lenient.

LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world · 30 pts · 281d (1 reply)

It's not "those who will be targeted," it's those who broke the law. How is it that a group can claim they should arrest and detain/deport people for filling out a piece of paper wrong 14 years ago that had nothing to do with fraud, embezzlement, or hurting anyone. Just trying to work a 9-5 and provide for their families, yet this group can turn around and support people who are openly admitting they have committed crimes and should commit more while asking others to commit crimes to stay out of prison in the future.

CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 281d

We tend to assume these pieces of shit were always as bad as they currently are, so listening to stories like that are quite valuable to understanding how we get to where we are/were. The way this kind of awful can grow in the right person.

MystValkyrie@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 26 pts · 280d (3 replies)

He doesn't need to worry, there won't be a democratic win in a big election ever again.

MajorasTerribleFate@lemmy.zip · 10 pts · 280d (1 reply)

It really depends on what happens with Democrat leadership over the next few years. If enough progressives manage to actually wrest control from the octogenarians, including by means of winning primaries like Mamdani, then we may see greater interest in some degree of accountability. Whether that's prison time or something else, who knows.

atmorous@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 280d

It depends not just on them but how many people get active and get others active to do too. Thats what will get the people to win

atmorous@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 280d (3 replies)

Even so many progressive democrats still won. We just need to make sure ways to votes are not tampered with and to not using the voting machines they bought

mavu@discuss.tchncs.de · 1 pts · 278d (2 replies)

Seriously? Many people are getting things done. You need more hope & to see the reality that we are kicking their asses regardless of any setbacks.

"Do you want a better world or not?" is the fundamental question. If you enjoy life, life with other people, and people making things for us all to enjoy that is new/better maintain what we already have then you should want people to succeed in every way.

More people get active by the day as well.

daannii@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 279d

Fyi, death by guillotine is actually incredibly ethical and humane.

Infact, in modern research, rats that are used in research and then killed are done so via a guillotine.

A friend was a pharmacologist researcher and told me that they gave them a little ketamine so they were out of it then cut their heads off. It's quick. They die within a few seconds.

Contrary to popular belief. Breaking the neck or even cutting it through does not result in instant death. Only paralysis. Though severed head is faster death. (Fastest death is obliteration of brain stem).

Many of the nerves that control the face actually run down into the neck and enter the spine there. So cutting off the head, at the base of the skull, also paralyzes the face.

It's sort of how people think that since fish can't scream they don't feel pain. That's stupid.

Just cause the head can't scream, Don't mean it's dead. I suspect that's why so many think breaking someone's neck or cutting off their head is "instant". It's definitely "certain death" but it's not instant.

It takes a little bit of time for oxygen to be deprived from the brain enough to cause unconscious and then death.

Breaking the neck or severing the head isn't immediate death. Someone with a broken neck (even if it causes face nerves to be severed) may stay alive/conscience up to a minute or two. Just paralyzed. Knowing they can't breathe. Knowing death is coming.

Terrifying.

So the gallows it is for the traitors.

I think we can agree only some of them deserve the guillotine.
