Z stands for Zulu timezone, also known as UTC. It can be another zone as well, as long as it's noted. This way anyone can calculate it to their own time zone. The Zulu is a military notation, but it's simple imo. Alfa is UTC+1, Yankee is UTC-1 etc. But UTC also works. I just hate naming timezones because then you need to look up what name is how much away from you. Just use the simple military letters or international UTC.
Here you can see all the zone namings including the military one.
As you can see, PYT for example can be Pyongyang time UTC+8:30 or Paraguay time UTC-3. It's such a mess. The only notation which is clear to all is UTC and the military notation is just shorter.
This is only true when dealing with huge amounts electronic data, for easy sorting and such. DD.MM.YYYY is superior for everyday use. Don't even try to change my mind
True. But I found that out after importing loads of photos from my old phone where I stored everything DDMMYYYY. Shit was all fucked up (winXP times). I'm used to DD-MM-YY on a daily basis, which is totally fine. Just don't name your files like that xD
If most of the dates you're looking at are within a reasonably narrow span (say 90 days), DD.MM.YYYY gives you the important information first, and you can often omit the YYYY entirely.
Exactly. It's also spoken in that order for that reason. At least in the languages I know. If I ask you for the date and you start with 2026, I'll be a litte confused.
You know, I have always used feet to measure height, but somehow seeing the difference in meters is significantly more eye opening as to just how insanely different those heights are.
Edit: Although I think you might have meant 1.57 for 5'2" 😅
Use your superior education that you got in your non-US country and do the math. Yeah the units are stupid and Americans are uneducated. But we can at least do the conversions.
I've gone on this tirade plenty of times, but inches aren't stupid. 12 inches to a foot makes a lot of sense for problems we've had to solve for millennia, because it's 3 times a power of two. For things like woodoworking it actually makes more sense than the metric system.
"But 10 deciliters in a liter" Using a tape measure, mark out 1/3rd of the thickness of a standard 19mm sheet of plywood. I'll be over here doing the same with 3/4" plywood by marking at 1/4".
Maybe we shouldn't be selling Europe any weapons that work.
What always cracks me up, are people not from the US who whine about our units, and demand that they be translated into their comfort units, which doesn't make them look smart, it makes them look like they can't do math as well as a teenager in the US.
I use metric all the time in the US. My 3D printer runs in millimeters and Celsius, I buy Pepsi by the liter, I dose every medicine by the gram, I meter electricity by the kilowatt and my lights are rated in lumens.
What I don't do is this weird sense of superiority found in cultivated ignorance the Europeans seem so fond of on the subject.
Looks like gag-reflex girlfriend. Hang on, let me look for something with her in it…
Edit: found it. They look similar. Can’t post it here, the only source I found was a Facebook reel and I don’t want to get downvoted to shit for posting FB stuff.
My wife's 4'9" and I'm 6 ft and this is never the view I see. That Delta height is exactly the same as what the op height differences is. If I'm looking down and she's looking up our faces are only about a foot apart. Op's picture makes it look like it's 2 ft or more.
Why do men date women that's like height of a children to them?
EDIT: I know reddit banned Jailbait, but can you people move to 4chan and not Lemmy? Fuck anyone who prefers Lolitas, Jailbait, underage looking, petite, child-height or midget if you're normal height, etc., it's fucking creepy and you know it. You also know I'm not talking about simply "shorter", but those cases where it really starts to look off
EDIT2 Why do you people keep talking about men dating shorter women? I'm talking about extreme differences not common ones - whole another level, my GF is 20cm shorter too, that is perfectly normal. Why is it so hard for many to understand what "children-height to them" means?
Huh? My comment literally says the opposite - asking why you do that. There are similar height people for everyone, dating someone that's nearly two times your height just borderline seems like a fetish
Then a large percentage of tall men would have to stay single, since women are shorter on average. I've personally met very few women who are my height, and I'm not even that tall.
I doubt a large percentage of men are having problems finding a woman that's not such a drastic height difference. I never said shorter, I'm talking about the difference being so big it starts to seriously look off. That's also not very common, quite rare actually, but you know the few men I'm talking about.
EDIT: This reminds me of a rather popular word where I live called lolita
What's weird is you assuming tall men dating short women have anything to do with children.
My wife is 12in shorter than me, and I have an ex that is 2in shorter than me. Height isn't a determining factor in my preference of who my partner is.
Do you know what relativity means? You keep saying it
A 6 or 7 year old child is ~120cm
Average person 160cm to 170cm
Relatively, a 3:4 ratio
For a tall person at 200cm (6'6") that would be the same as 150cm
Average woman is 160cm
Yes a 200cm person standing next to a 150cm person looks like an adult standing next to a child height wise. Yet to them a 150cm person is much taller than 120cm. 1 foot difference.
Why does your mind jump to "they look like they are with a child?"
Also to the tall person that isn't the ratio of height of a child. They've most likely been that height since they were a teenager and think of the height of a child as the height that children are. Sure it may be waist height instead of chest height, but that's how tall kids are to them. It's not like you're 25 and have been dating around for a while and suddenly grew 6 inches and are uncomfortable because women in your dating pool are suddenly a proportional height you associate with children.
This is also amusing to me as a tall woman who prefers older women and keeps getting short ones.
You have any clue how many women are 6 feet tall? Less than 1%, you are effectively saying tall men should be banned from heterosexual relationships that's why you are getting yelled at and down voted, I'm 6'2" and most women look like children next to me height wise
Love is blind. Don't wedge yourslef inbetween folk who are happily together and are living normal lives. I know a guy that is more than a head taller than his partner, and they are happily together. Heck, it's she that is more dominant in their partnership xD
Is such height diff a reason to pay more attention? Maybe. But outright assuming something is wrong just because you've got a gut feeling is foul.
First of all, "midget" is a slur that shouldn't be used to describe people with dwarfism and second of all, are you saying that it's creepy for grown adults to be in a relationship just because one of them has a genetic mutation or happens to be really short? Are little people only supposed to date other little people or is there some magic number where you just become creepy?
Women prefer, on average, a larger height difference between themselves and their partner (i.e. males being much taller than themselves) than men do. This effect is even more pronounced when examining satisfaction with actual partner height: women are most satisfied when their partner was 21 cm taller, whereas men are most satisfied when they were 8 cm taller than their partner.
So a roughly average height 5'4" (~1.62m) woman, on average, would ideally pick a 6' (~1.83m) tall man, all else held equal.
By the same kinds of math, on average, men prefer to be ~8cm / ~3 inches taller than their ideal height female partner.
So a roughly average height man of 5'10" (~1.78m) would ideally prefer their gal to be 5'7" (~1.70m)
So I don't know, you tell me why generally speaking, women ideally prefer their men to be ~8 inches taller than themself, but men ideally prefer being only ~3 inches taller than their women.
Women generally have a stronger preference for taller men, than men have a preference for shorter women.
But you framed the entire scenario as being caused by men.
Why do men date women that's like height of a children to them?
Its... also amazing that you yourself date someone 20cm shorter than you.
So, what, if you yourself were 5cm shorter than you are, and your partner was 5cm shorter than she is... would that be such a difference that the woman would now be 'child sized'?
Short people do just exist, the image is an intentional joke making fun of height difference that is present in this consensual relationship.
You describe this as jailbait despite the woman looking like she's in her upper 20s or lower 30s in age.
Like, not to be rude to the woman in the picture, but how many under 21 or under 18 girls... have forehead wrinkles, bags under their eyes?
I'll admit, jailbait by definition does not fit in, so it was incorrect of me to use that word, but I'll stand by the idea that it does feel weird to me in a way that resembles liking young girls.
Answer me this - is it perfectly fine/morally right of me to watch a porn of tall dude doing it with a very short one?
NSFW, but here is a mild porn example, I've personally seen more extreme ones; NSFW OPEN AT YOUR OWN RISK
Personally, watching this makes me slightly uncomfortable. No one else, really?
I would assume, though I could be wrong, that by not challenging it, they either tacitly conceeded the point, or, perhaps did not even mean to say it in the way they said it, with the meaning/implication that phrasing has, as they have said English is their third language, not their first.
You're giving the guy a lot of grace. Admitting that there could be other reasons why tall guys can be partnered with short girls, especially when given objective evidence supporting these other reasons, is not impeded by a language barrier, not at the fluency level at which they're otherwise communicating.
Nowhere in this thread do they admit it could be for reasons other than their personal theory.
That's just having a poorly justified opinion and doubling down on it when confronted with evidence to the contrary, which deserves to be called out.
I'll admit, jailbait by definition does not fit in, so it was incorrect of me to use that word,
Thank you for seeing and saying that.
but I'll stand by the idea that it does feel weird to me in a way that resembles liking young girls.
I mean... very broadly, yes, sure, I get that, but I feel like you have to ignore the details and context.
But I will also grant that the non actual OP image, that is of higher quality, makes it more clear that the woman is likely not a child or very young adult, than the blurrier OP image does.
Answer me this - is it perfectly fine/morally right of me to watch a porn of tall dude doing it with a very short one?
Well frankly that's a complicated question, mostly because: What exactly do you mean by 'very short one?'
Apologies if I am wrong but it seems like English may not be your first language, and that that might be the cause of a lot of the kerfuffle here.
If you mean an actual dwarf, someone with dwarfism, well then that, to me, becomes a discussion of basically... is it more the case that such a person basically has few other valid employment options by way of discrimination, or is it more the case that... they're fully consenting adults, making their own choices, which they understand or are in control of?
If you mean a person who is not a dwarf, but is simply fairly short... I basically still have the same kind of answer, I guess, just with there likely being a good deal less discrimination against someone who is simply short, but not a dwarf?
Personally, as a matter of personal preference, I would not be interested in porn with dwarves, and yeah I probably would be weirded out a bit between an extreme height mismatch with non dwarves...
But 'being weirded out' and 'morally endorsing or condoning something' are not the same thing to me.
Lots of people do and enjoy things that I do not, that I find weird, but .... I don't think they're de facto morally bad just because I find it weird.
Because I know that that all works in reverse as well: I'm into things many other people find weird or strange, but like, I'm not harming anyone.
Frankly, I just don't like to watch any kind of porn where anyone is getting just utterly physically dominated by another person.
I don't like porn where a guy will like, insult or or degrade or very physically forcefully slap any part of a woman, or that is styled as if its the gals boss or something... that turns me off.
But, some people are into both or either of those things.
Sorry if this is kind of a non answer, but I guess the short (lol) version would be:
Such things generally yes do make me some amount of uncomfortable, but me being uncomfortable is not the same thing as something being morally condemnable.
Are these things moral?
Basically, thats a pretty complicated question to me, and I'm honestly not totally sure how I feel about that.
EDIT: Also I did not watch that video, I'm making breakfast at the moment lol.
You're right, English is my third language. Thank you for giving this some thought.
I have a somewhat wild and likely unprovable theory (let's see how many downvotes this comment gets) that more than half (60-70%?) of men who like the "very short ones" are also into dwarfism, but don't quote me on that.
... Well, that would an interesting survey, I... guess?
Don't think you could do it very academically based off of trying to profile lemmy voters though, hah.
EDIT:
But also, I say this to most non English first language speakers, because it is true:
You speak English better than a considerable number of Americans who only know English, so... generally I'm very impressed that you can speak 3 languages to any extent, hahah!
Ok but height really isn't enough to make it that. I've dated short women who I was attracted to because of how womanly (mature, mom bod) they were. The first specs of gray hair, the sagging of giant tits, the wide hips… Her being short was honestly mostly an inconvenience because I had to bend over pretty far to kiss her.
Then you've got folks like my friends who are in the upper half of 6'. Everyone is short to them. They aren't going to go to tall communities just to find relationships. One is now dating an abnormally tall woman and he's happy about it.
Sometimes two people just click. I'd be skeptical if someone kept intentionally dating young looking people significantly shorter than them, or if they were into the sort of stuff your words describe that content as. But that content isn't the majority of relationships with major height differences. The only people getting off on the stuff I'm talking about are greedy chiropractors.
Translation for this person because they've rightfully been misunderstood: Why does it seem like there is a disproportionate amount of tall men ending up in relationships with short women? This seems to be a statistical aberration when compared against other factors.
The answer is societal expectations of tall men/short women, kinks, standard height deviations among genders.
Why does it seem like there is a disproportionate amount of tall men ending up in relationships with short women?
The dick looks bigger next to a smaller person and you feel more powerful being able to move such a small person around so easily in bed. Gay men have bears and twinks. This isnt just a heterosexual thing. I would know.
I always figured it was nature trying not to breed us into a race of giants, or midgets. I'm a lady and about the average height of men in my area (which my husband points out puts me in the top 5% of women's height here even though I'm barely even tall) and mostly have dated men around my height. My ex was about my height and our kids were all average height. Husband also around my height. My husband's ex was a lot shorter than him and his boys are not as tall as me, and I tease him, if he wanted tall kids he needed a tall mom.
So I guess if she had her kids with a tall guy they would have been average height but I never had to think about that, right? But if my kids dad had been really tall my kids would be like Really Tall, maybe more than is healthy?
I know nobody is having kids anymore, lol, but the preferences could be hard wired to some extent.
Also - if only 5% of women are my height or taller, there probably just aren't enough of us around even if we wanted to breed giants.
Oh man, I'm giving up on this thread. I seriously don't know how I could more clearly explain what I'm talking about. I even edited my main comment to no avail. I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT TALL MEN SIMPLY DATING SHORTER WOMEN, my gf is 20cm shorter too. I quite literally meant child-height in relativity.
I don't need a definition of a children's height to have average image of their height and feel disgust when I see grown ass man or tall dude with one that next to him makes me wonder if that's their child or wife
Literally how is this stupid? It's how I feel. It's my feelings, which are objective to me that are not imaginary and I cannot ignore. I believe there is clear logic behind it and rest is a matter of personal opinion or your own "feel" towards the matter, but is it really stupid?
You can have stupid feelings, especially once they concern how you treat others. There's a big difference between "idk why, but I really like cherry flavored ice cream" and "idk why, but these people make me feel uncomfortable", because the latter opens you up to treating others with prejudice.
It's your job to wrestle with them and make sure your feelings are justified, or to change your mind.

What always cracks me up, are people not from the US who whine about our units, and demand that they be translated into their comfort units, which doesn't make them look smart, it makes them look like they can't do math as well as a teenager in the US.
captain_aggravated@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 187d
I use metric all the time in the US. My 3D printer runs in millimeters and Celsius, I buy Pepsi by the liter, I dose every medicine by the gram, I meter electricity by the kilowatt and my lights are rated in lumens.
What I don't do is this weird sense of superiority found in cultivated ignorance the Europeans seem so fond of on the subject.

I doubt a large percentage of men are having problems finding a woman that's not such a drastic height difference. I never said shorter, I'm talking about the difference being so big it starts to seriously look off. That's also not very common, quite rare actually, but you know the few men I'm talking about.

blinfabian@feddit.nl · 44 pts · 189d
ah yes, children and short women are the same. much science 🧪🐈
REDACTED@infosec.pub · -23 pts · 189d
Right, because "height of a children" means children. I quite clearly meant it in relativity.
Sludgeyy@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 189d
Do you know what relativity means? You keep saying it
A 6 or 7 year old child is ~120cm
Average person 160cm to 170cm
Relatively, a 3:4 ratio
For a tall person at 200cm (6'6") that would be the same as 150cm
Average woman is 160cm
Yes a 200cm person standing next to a 150cm person looks like an adult standing next to a child height wise. Yet to them a 150cm person is much taller than 120cm. 1 foot difference.
Why does your mind jump to "they look like they are with a child?"
captainlezbian@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 189d
Also to the tall person that isn't the ratio of height of a child. They've most likely been that height since they were a teenager and think of the height of a child as the height that children are. Sure it may be waist height instead of chest height, but that's how tall kids are to them. It's not like you're 25 and have been dating around for a while and suddenly grew 6 inches and are uncomfortable because women in your dating pool are suddenly a proportional height you associate with children.
This is also amusing to me as a tall woman who prefers older women and keeps getting short ones.
ThunderclapSasquatch@startrek.website · 21 pts · 189d

sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 10 pts · 189d
... Women generally, statistically, indicate an ideal preference to date men who are ~21cm / ~8 inches taller than themself.
https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0191886913000020
REDACTED@infosec.pub · -9 pts · 189d
That is so far off from what I was talking about. Me and my GF have 20cm difference too
sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 19 pts · 189d
My point is you got the causation backwards.
Women generally have a stronger preference for taller men, than men have a preference for shorter women.
But you framed the entire scenario as being caused by men.
Its... also amazing that you yourself date someone 20cm shorter than you.
REDACTED@infosec.pub · -6 pts · 189d
I'll admit, jailbait by definition does not fit in, so it was incorrect of me to use that word, but I'll stand by the idea that it does feel weird to me in a way that resembles liking young girls.
Answer me this - is it perfectly fine/morally right of me to watch a porn of tall dude doing it with a very short one? NSFW, but here is a mild porn example, I've personally seen more extreme ones; NSFW OPEN AT YOUR OWN RISK
Personally, watching this makes me slightly uncomfortable. No one else, really?
papertowels@mander.xyz · 7 pts · 189d
You didn't address it, so I gotta ask, did you read the part about causation at all?
sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 1 pts · 189d
I would assume, though I could be wrong, that by not challenging it, they either tacitly conceeded the point, or, perhaps did not even mean to say it in the way they said it, with the meaning/implication that phrasing has, as they have said English is their third language, not their first.
papertowels@mander.xyz · 1 pts · 188d
You're giving the guy a lot of grace. Admitting that there could be other reasons why tall guys can be partnered with short girls, especially when given objective evidence supporting these other reasons, is not impeded by a language barrier, not at the fluency level at which they're otherwise communicating.
Nowhere in this thread do they admit it could be for reasons other than their personal theory.
That's just having a poorly justified opinion and doubling down on it when confronted with evidence to the contrary, which deserves to be called out.
sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 7 pts · 189d
Thank you for seeing and saying that.
I mean... very broadly, yes, sure, I get that, but I feel like you have to ignore the details and context.
But I will also grant that the non actual OP image, that is of higher quality, makes it more clear that the woman is likely not a child or very young adult, than the blurrier OP image does.
REDACTED@infosec.pub · -3 pts · 189d
You're right, English is my third language. Thank you for giving this some thought.
I have a somewhat wild and likely unprovable theory (let's see how many downvotes this comment gets) that more than half (60-70%?) of men who like the "very short ones" are also into dwarfism, but don't quote me on that.

Tigeroovy@lemmy.ca · 9 pts · 188d
Because as it turns out, sometimes adults are very short.
KindnessIsPunk@lemmy.ca · 6 pts · 189d
Translation for this person because they've rightfully been misunderstood: Why does it seem like there is a disproportionate amount of tall men ending up in relationships with short women? This seems to be a statistical aberration when compared against other factors.
The answer is societal expectations of tall men/short women, kinks, standard height deviations among genders.
UltraGiGaGigantic@lemmy.ml · 9 pts · 189d
The dick looks bigger next to a smaller person and you feel more powerful being able to move such a small person around so easily in bed. Gay men have bears and twinks. This isnt just a heterosexual thing. I would know.

RBWells@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 189d

KindnessIsPunk@lemmy.ca · 11 pts · 189d
That's stupid then, no offense. The height of children ranges greatly just like the height of adults, there's considerable overlap.
It isn't something clearly defined.
REDACTED@infosec.pub · -7 pts · 189d
I don't need a definition of a children's height to have average image of their height and feel disgust when I see grown ass man or tall dude with one that next to him makes me wonder if that's their child or wife
Literally how is this stupid? It's how I feel. It's my feelings, which are objective to me that are not imaginary and I cannot ignore. I believe there is clear logic behind it and rest is a matter of personal opinion or your own "feel" towards the matter, but is it really stupid?
papertowels@mander.xyz · 7 pts · 189d
You can have stupid feelings, especially once they concern how you treat others. There's a big difference between "idk why, but I really like cherry flavored ice cream" and "idk why, but these people make me feel uncomfortable", because the latter opens you up to treating others with prejudice.
It's your job to wrestle with them and make sure your feelings are justified, or to change your mind.
