Putain

Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world · 19 pts · 171d (4 replies)

I love how the two most villainous people in the world - Trump and Putin - both have names that are synonymous with farts.

jenesaisquoi@feddit.org · 9 pts · 171d (3 replies)

Putain means whore

Yes but Putin rhymes with Tootin.

Ah, right, didn't think of that

That's Sophie Chikirou of La France Insoumise (LFI), the leading French left-wing populist party. Apparently, she's also in a relation with the party's founder and long-term leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon, so also quite 'prominent'.

ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net · 52 pts · 171d (2 replies)

Most left-wing populist parties in Europe are financed by Russia while most right-wing populist parties are financed by Russia.

ChairmanMeow@programming.dev · 11 pts · 171d (1 reply)

Anything extreme or radical typically is, it makes it harder for traditional parties to govern, and they tend to shift away from the political center themselves as well. It's political disruption, plain and simple.

Tinidril@midwest.social · 4 pts · 171d

The right wing parties shift away from the center. Not so much the left leaning parties.

Slashme@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 171d

Seems to be the French equivalent of Germany's Sahra Wagenknecht. Also nominally left-wing populist, but pro-Russia and taking weird rightwing talking points.

NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 171d (2 replies)

The fuck is she doing slithering up to Putin then? Do they think Lenin’s corpse is suddenly going to bust out of its glass sarcophagus and bring back the CCCP?

Quittenbrot@feddit.org · 9 pts · 171d (1 reply)

They're so obsessed with 'overcoming the system' that they don't care whatsoever who to share the bed with to - allegedly - reach that goal.

That their great benefactor doesn't want them to reach their - or any - goal at all but just plays them like a puppet master to sow constant dissent, is beyond their scope of understanding. Useful idiots.

No, you are correct. I just looked at her ribbon and didn't pay attention to the actual flag. My mistake, thanks for pointing it out.

You can always find an idiot in any country.

Quittenbrot@feddit.org · 7 pts · 171d (6 replies)

Problem is when that idiot finds an increasing number of other idiots voting for them..

Don_alForno@feddit.org · 1 pts · 171d (5 replies)

The real problem is when you are only left with the choice between centrist neoliberal billionaire bootlickers, pro russian far right billionaire bootlickers or pro russian leftists (who you at least hope are not billionaire bootlickers).

Quittenbrot@feddit.org · 4 pts · 171d (4 replies)

Given that Putin also is a billionaire, aren't they also billionaire bootlickers?

Don_alForno@feddit.org · 1 pts · 171d (3 replies)

Hence the "hope".

Quittenbrot@feddit.org · 1 pts · 171d (2 replies)

But where's the hope coming from if you, as in the video above, can clearly see that they absolutely love to lick that boot squeaky clean?

Don_alForno@feddit.org · 1 pts · 171d (1 reply)

They're licking Putins boot more because he's the russian dictator, not because he's rich. Also, I'm not French and the german Left is not explicitly licking Putin's boot at all, they're just weirdly fixated on not fighting anybody under any circumstances, which I still believe they can be woken up from. If I can get a meaningful wealth tax out of them, I'm willing to work from there.

Quittenbrot@feddit.org · 2 pts · 171d

They’re licking Putins boot more because he’s the russian dictator, not because he’s rich.

The difference being? Both being a dictator and being rich are leading to the same thing: being powerful; and that's the sole reason to get one's boots licked.

and the german Left is not explicitly licking Putin’s boot at all

"At all" is probably a bit bold of a claim. Granted, with Wagenknecht leaving ship and taking her most avid followers with her, the most prominent "Russian" voice in that party is gone. But you still find a remarkably strong foundation of sympathies towards Russia in that party. No other normal party is as soft on Russia as them. That weird fixation of not giving Ukraine any weapons at all is exactly testament of trying to appease this part of the party that might have gotten quieter but still exists, while still fulfilling the expectations of especially the new influx of members/voters that are no longer filled with these crude nostalgic sympathies. I hope the Linke can overcome this but only time will tell.

theacharnian@lemmy.ca · 6 pts · 171d (5 replies)

Well that's fucking disappointing for an LFI spokesperson to be saying.

bossito@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 171d (4 replies)

Only if you're not paying attention to the party, they always eagerly fit into the worst clichês of far-left. Always siding with dictators, Islamic terrorists, antissemitic propaganda etc.. really much more similar to the RN then they're supporters like to admit.

theacharnian@lemmy.ca · 0 pts · 170d (3 replies)

I've listened to Mélenchon when he came to Montreal, and I've listened to a few of his discours online afterwards. I did not hear any of the things you're describing. I also don't trust the accusations you're making because it's exactly the kind of shit neoliberal centrists have been accusing the Left of since the Iraq War, all the while actually doing all of the same things in practice. So I'm giving LFI the benefit of the doubt in general and I'm disappointed about this in particular.

Thank you, the evil this man spreads is not shared enough. He's at least as hateful and toxic as Le Pen, both terrible for France and Europe. We can thank them both for another delay with the Mercosur deal, just to give a recent example. Putin puppets is just the start of their evilness.

NorskSud@lemmy.pt · 1 pts · 170d

oh, these extremist dudes always love a strong man that shouts loud and aggressively.. left or right, the psychological mechanism is exactly the same, the end result also: violence and racism.

biofaust@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 171d (7 replies)

The very sad thing is that in France it is the Left doing this. She is a member of La France insoumise, Melanchon's party.

From my understanding, the other problem is that Macron, in the middle of two Putin/fascist parties, is preferring to deal with the historical Fascists.

What puzzles me is that I heard that Melanchon is counting on the votes of young Muslims and other second generation immigrants and I cannot see of any of them would be ok with this.

The French right is also pro-Russian.

Goldholz@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 3 pts · 171d

There is also big parts of germanys left being pro russia. The Left party wanting to stop weapon export and support for ukraine "negotiation" is what they want. And then you also have the BSW which is just good old east german dictatorship love

SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org · 3 pts · 171d (2 replies)

Germany also has the weird left wing pro Russia party BSW and a normal left wing party that's not pro Russia "Die Linke"

Don_alForno@feddit.org · 5 pts · 171d

and a normal left wing party that's not pro Russia "Die Linke"

Who regrettably still are pacifist to the point of not wanting to help the defending side in a war of aggression right on our doorstep, which still makes them act in the russian interests.

Goldholz@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 3 pts · 171d

Die Linke ia also pro russia. Be it from naiv pacifism or active pro russia stance. Its both helping russia

Imhotep@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 171d

Is there a specific link between muslims and support to Ukraine?

Havatra@lemmy.zip · 0 pts · 171d (3 replies)

Is it just me, or does it look AI generated? Here are the things that look off:

  • The wind is blowing the flag, but not her hair (it remains perfectly still for the entire duration).
  • The tree leaves in the background look like they are phasing/blending when they move with the wind?
  • The woman holding the phone in the right of this video seems to be attempting to record, but is not pointing the camera in a reasonable direction?
  • There is almost nothing going on in the video apart from the main character.
  • They are standing in the woods with speakers at a rally?? Why not in the city? And even a park in the city should have some cityscape in the background?
  • Did this happen recently? Green leafy trees are not in season in France yet, I believe? Didn't see the timestamp; it's from 13th of May 2025.
  • Behind the woman that is trying to film, there is a flag in the beginning to the video that seems to walk away by itself? And towards the end of the video the woman behind the woman recording is walking away the same direction, and you can see her head (height disparity with whoever would potentially be carrying the aforementioned flag).

Anyone have other independent sources on this event?

Edit: Added things that looks weird.

Edit 2: Alright, this is not AI. It's unfortunate one has to be so skeptical, but that's the world we now find ourselves in...
