Call me conservative but I think that would still suck. A society where everyone has a camera on their nose pointing at you sounds absolutely dreadful.
Eh, you're already on a dozen cameras every time you go outside. Security cameras, state surveillance cameras, doorbell cameras, cameras all over every modern car... What's a few more?
No I don‘t because I don‘t live in an Orwellian hellhole (yet) like most people seem to do these days. Even if I did your comment is an admission of absolute capitulation. What a sad worldview.
There is already no expectation of privacy and anonymity anymore. Cameras are already everywhere, more and more of them interconnected and tracking your every step. If you want privacy and anonymity outside of your own home, you need to be wearing a mask, and maybe taking measures to disguise your gait and physical proportions as well. Having slightly more or slightly fewer cameras out there isn't going to change that whatsoever.
Okay, then. I wish you the very best of luck in destroying every camera you see. Hopefully you're wearing a mask and unidentifying clothes every time you go out.
Just gotta wait for people to write custom firmware for these things, it's cool hardware but yeah I'm not going to run a Facebook OS on my own hardware
When I look at my game recordings, I can see my mistakes/places to improve.
If I see the steam overlay saying 150 minutes game time, its like "eh. Its long, but I had fun". But if I see an over 2 hour clip of me not leaving my chair, that will make a bigger impact, reminding me how little I do every day
It's one of those things that sounds great in sci-fi, like flying cars, until you realise that the world is full of awful people that immediately repurpose any new tech for filthy lucre / inflicting suffering / power grabbing.
When Netflix bought the rights there was a shift to Americanisation of everything and it started to go downhill but there's still some decent episodes from that period as well. But the best episodes are the oldest ones.
Who needs to video their day to torture thenselves with minute details throughout each day, your brain can pull that info up any time it is inconvenient to you and run through it for hours
Careful with this. Some French journalists (Cash Investigation) got some nice sequences by using hidden cameras, and I guess from the ads that the camera is not hidden, just tiny... I hate tese glasses with guts as they showed in one ad how people can hate it and thought let's fucking send it
You mean the “, too”? That’s how it’s supposed to be written. People often don’t do it that way, but that’s how it’s correctly used, and few have accused us anglophones, as a whole, of really understanding how to use our own damn language. It’s the same with “, but”, also, and “, also”, also.
I'm also an anglophone, but this seems not quite right to me. There's no real need to insert a comma in that sentence, as there's no real need to pause for clarity or pacing.
It’s not about need exactly, it’s about a writing convention. Also, we do have these pauses in our speech/that’s where we would insert those pauses naturally, they’re just often very subtle.
A lot of language, no matter what you speak, has a lot of these subtleties that are so engrained as to be almost unnoticeable. I’m at a pretty high intermediate level French and, because of the closeness with English, I’m actually learning quite a lot about why English is the way it is, too.
Without the Meta layer (which you can just not install), the basic smart RayBans are actually pretty nice. The audio is pretty good and it works with any other assistant you may have configured. I wish they had a version without the camera.

I thought smart glasses could be kind of neat, but no way in hell would I get a pair from Meta.
OwOarchist@pawb.social · 68 pts · 160d
A set of FOSS smart glasses powered entirely by local hardware and software that you own and control? That would be kind of neat.
Anything connected to and under the control of a big corporation, though ... miss me with that shit.

Ah yes. The fallacy of you're already being exploited so what's one more time?

Really, though -- is that not true?

Yeah! Things are already bad. It's so much simpler to let it get worse than trying to make things better!

Still doesn’t mean I should be okay with some meta glass hole filming me.

If you see a ring door bell, they aren’t hard to kick or rip off the wall.
Actually I’m going to make some informative stickers that happen to cover the camera and sensor of those things. I’ll post them when they’re up.
cpaq47@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 160d
Lmk, I could def use them. I work in ppls houses in the US. I swear almost half the houses have cameras, 90% ring. It's insane.
OwOarchist@pawb.social · 1 pts · 160d
It is a bit more difficult, however, to do that without being caught, since they'll probably have camera footage of you doing it.
anomnom@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 160d
Cops don’t track people down for porch pirating. They aren’t gonna look for a person in a mask kicking doorbells.

Or you can just use your common sense and save yourself the cost of this ugly piece of junk.
People tend to avoid you less if you don't look like a sneaky perv, so that's another bonus.
Plus, you'll not be funding Meta and you'll have one less piece of rubbish in a drawer somewhere that needs recycling after one month of use.
MidsizedSedan@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 160d
I'm NEVER buying a Meta product. I'm just saying camera glasses is a cool idea. Shame that its tied being a terrible company.
And if you noticed, I only mentioned using it in my own home. Never out in public.

You'll maybe reevaluate that position after watching this episode of Black Mirror.
Endlessly torturing yourself over minute details throughout each day doesn't sound fun or healthy to me.
