Which part of the USA's enormous debt makes it the richest country? They're paying $2b per day just on interest repayments and have a national debt of over $30 trillion. At present the debt far exceeds GDP so I would say the USA is broke.

The US is a financial sovereign. It has the monopoly over its currency: You don't need the rich ! Govments within a financial sovereign can decide/agree in congress to pay for things they want with the only limit being that the thing/service is available in that currency.
